  1. That's a helluva review there, Muser. I'm lost on most of your reference points, but that's because I am miles away from your level of black metal lore. In fact I don't have any black metal lore... I'll give that second FYC a view when I get home tonight. First though, it's another hour of work and then some recreational slow-pitch softball. I should tell you guys, I'm a regular Bobby Bonilla out there. Except for the switch-hitting. And the fact that he is a large black man, and I am not. Natalie Imbruglia - Wishing I Was There
  2. That is a fantastic video, and it's just weird enough to do the song justice. And I was surprised at how good the FYC did on the Elvis tune. They even had the suits and the moves goin' on there! Wilco - I'm the Man Who Loves You
  3. NoMeansNo - Mr. In-Between Yes, it's off the new one. Rocks pretty hard. The local college radio station played it.
  4. "Listen to your friend Billy Zane. He's a cool dude."
  5. Does the BG1 ship with this "tutu" mod that I often hear mentioned as the definitive BG1 experience?
  6. Understandable. I suggest headphones. Although listening in the car is also a preferred method of mine. The Jesus and Mary Chain - The Hardest Walk
  7. Very interesting read. At my old job, I had a female coworker who practiced Islam. She worked during the day with the rest of us, so she couldn't use that method of circumventing the fasting rules. It was difficult, especially because we had to be on the phone a lot as part of the job - and she did it without a bottle of water or anything to keep the voice in shape. Every day she knew the exact time of sunset, and she generally had food ordered for pickup at that exact moment. She didn't ever drink alcohol either, although I think that was her choice and not dictated by the religion(?). We all learned a bit about Islam by working with her. It was very impressive to see someone willing make sizable sacrifices because of their faith.
  8. Ahhhhhh. It pleases me to see those trees. Early impressions? Oh, I can't wait until you make your way through this one. The Hives had a good sound and fantastic attitude, but you're absolutely right about them being repetitive. You really only need two or three Hives songs to have heard it all. I really liked their version of "Find Another Girl" though. Tom Waits - Bad Liver and a Broken Heart
  9. Awww..... I found the link, Kor. But apparently the video has been removed due to "terms of use" violations. Ooooh, Fugazi! Now we're upping the indie ante... Fugazi - Blueprint
  10. @TN: Pillow of Your Bones, Sweet Euphoria, When I'm Down - all great tunes from the CC solo tip. Girls tend to like Preaching the End of the World, too. @B: "3030" off that Deltron 3030 album is one of my favorite underground hiphop tracks. There's some other good ones on there, but I always come back to that bass groove and bombastic buildup. yo it's three thousand-thirty i want y'all to meet deltron zero and automator
  11. Tom Morello and Tim Commerford were on WMMS last night talking about the new Audioslave album. They also played five or six tracks from it. Most of them were better than the single in my mind, but still pretty much "meh." They're still not blowing me away. Although I hear Chris Cornell is working on another solo album. Euphoria Morning FTW! Ahem... Nerf Herder - Golfshirt
  12. I haven't bought any ringtones. I'm always on vibrate at work (unlike some people who should be strangled with a phone cord for the faux-classical crap that blares across the office every ten minutes) and I have a nice preprogrammed one that I haven't heard from anyone else's phone for when I'm out and about. If I ever bought a ringtone, I would want Guile's theme from Street Fighter 2.
  13. He definitely hits the topical stuff hard. And between dinosaurs and time travel, and other things he's written, he often stretches the limits of what the readers are willing to buy into. The books of his I've read have all been enjoyable, more or less. I haven't read the new one, mostly because of the yammering I've heard about it. Did anyone see the movie that was made of the Crichton book Timeline? I heard it was horrible.
  14. Like I said, Bales, I haven't listened yet so any judgment on my part is unwarranted, but the album and song titles gave me the impression that these guys were either smirking jokesters or highbrow noise-rockers. I mean, The Difference Between Me and You is That I'm Not on Fire? Falco Vs. The Young Canoeist? It smacks of Morrissey or Belle and Sebastian. Eh, I suppose I'll give them a listen sometime this week and stop presuming I know what they will sound like. Besides, if they are taking the piss out of the indies, that's A-OK with me. Morrissey - You're the One for Me, Fatty
  15. Please meta, don't judge Crichton by just his most recent book. I guess it upset a lot of people by dismissing the effects of global warming. He has written controversial material before, but State of Fear has been derided by earth scientists all over as a premise supported by bad science. Some folks have said he let his political leanings trump the believability of the book. I'd pick Congo or Sphere instead.
  16. Teenage Fanclub - I Need Direction I "found" that McLusky album the other day... haven't listened to it yet. Bands that ooze prentention have to work that much harder for my props, because I'm biased against them from the start.
  17. Maybe they've infiltrated the Hot Topic crowd stateside and I've just missed it. That's entirely possible, because I avoid that scene at all costs. Still, I don't see Against Me! fitting with those bands at all... they aren't nearly as accessible. Although they can be catchy occasionally, on As the Eternal Cowboy.
  18. Whoa, since when have Against Me! been touring stadiums with Green Day? I'm just saying, I know I haven't paid much attention to the "punk" world in a few years but I would still catagorize them as obscure. Cake - It's Coming Down
  19. I was not a fan of the second Jurassic Park movie. I liked the book, but the film and the book were two different stories. If I remember correctly, there were MAJOR plot changes and they even combined the personality traits of two kids in the book into one kid in the movie. Anyway, I'm watching Natalie Imbruglia music videos on YouTube. She'll always be my favorite pop star.
  20. Whiskeytown - Dancing with the Women at the Bar
  21. Teenage Fanclub - The Town and the City Found a used copy of Howdy! for relatively cheap, picked it up. I know it's not supposed to be one of their best, but hey - mediocre TFC is still better than anything I'd hear on the radio. :D
  22. Handsome Boy Modeling School
  23. The Lemonheads - Rudderless
  24. Billy Joel - Only the Good Die Young Those Catholic girls start much too late. True 'dat, Billy.
