  1. Lou Gutman = lead developer in training. He should put "Supermarket Hy-jinx" on his resume. Am I right?
  2. Alex Chilton - Free Again I say God-DAMN that's an obvious key change!
  3. It actually stayed on the straight and narrow for much longer than most threads of this type... must be a testament to the power and influence of the one they call "ELDAR."
  4. Jodo was my alt. Hoo boy, I sure had you guys going!
  5. STP - Still Remains Found an old STP mixtape. Score!
  6. Flowers for Algernon, The Lottery and Isaac Asimov all rule. I grew up on the Norby books, and later the Elijah Baley detective novels. Fun fact! The Norby books were actually transcribed in comic book form for several years in Boys Life magazine.
  7. I never knew Matt Sharp started the Rentals.... Ah well, that's a predictable Dr. Dave column. Although I have to admit the "Donald Duck imitating Hendrix with a kazoo" line caused a sharp peal of laughter from my cube. Todd Snider - Play a Train Song
  8. wanna go back, wanna go back and i don't even know how i got off the track Yeah, I just heard that Weezer business today. It's interesting, 'cause as great as Weezer was, they inadvertently spawned the whole emo, sensitive geek culture. For every Nerf Herder or FOW, there's three Dashboard Confessionals... Not that Rivers was the first, he was trying to be an updated Buddy Holly, but they filled stadiums with rock songs about feelings. I was digging through my old CDs this week and found a data CD full of old music videos. I had a great version of them doing Undone (The Sweater Song) live on Conan. Anybody remember that one?
  9. Billy Bragg and Wilco - The Unwelcome Guest It's a "Joe Hill"-esque story song, written by Woody Guthrie. Yes, they'll catch me napping one day And they'll kill me And then I'll be gone But that won't be my end For my guns and my saddle Will always be filled By unwelcome travelers And other brave men And they'll take the money And spread it out equal Just like the Bible And the prophets suggest But men that go riding To help these poor workers The rich will cut down Like an unwelcome guest
  10. The Dude abides. I don't know about you but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there. The Dude. Takin' 'er easy for all us sinners.
  11. I'm going to save this thread from a derailment into a discussion of the Finnish club scene by wishing my buddy Eldar a happy (belated) birthday. For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow... etc. :D
  12. The Byrds - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue I picked up "The Byrds Play Dylan" at the library yesterday. I knew they were responsible for bringing Dylan to the top 40 crowd, with "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "My Back Pages," but I had no idea they covered 20+ Dylan songs during their career.
  13. That NoMeansNo live stuff is pretty good. I still want to find one of their CDs though. Now that I'm living in a new town I'll hit the local CD shops. Teenage Fanclub - Star Sign (slow version)
  14. Is that the "Dad Dance"? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unfortunately, yes. I have tried other, cooler, types of dancing. However, my body eventually returns to its natural state of traveling on some otherworldly treadmill.
  15. AH! A resource for those of us who need help working on our "night moves." It doesn't illustrate my move of choice though, in which the hips move slightly as the arms go through a similar pattern to that of a jogger.
  16. Paul Gilbert - Better Chords No matter what you do I've got better chords than you There is nothing left to prove while I'm alive No matter what you say I've got better chords to play So just beg for my mercy Apologize But if you want something good to sing You've come to the right place cause I'm the king No matter what you've heard I will use that major third To make better chords Bettter chords than you Off the CD entitled "Alligator Farm."
  17. And you can listen to some bitchin music at the same time. Like this great piece of history, and one of my favourite recordins, Helen Humes, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, Willie Dixon, T-Bone Walker and Memphis Slim - Blues Ain't Nothing But a Woman <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is some beautiful, beautiful music. Time to drive home for the day. Probably listen to some Hi-Standard. youtube link
  18. Nope. I suppose I'll bite the bullet and spend $30 per month or whatever it is for DSL these days. My new job's much nicer than my old one, so it's not like I'll have to cut out lunch three days a week to pay my internet bill. I have super high speed and a brand new computer at work, but it is work. I should do work there, according to the definition of the term. Anyway, listening to:
  19. Yikes. As far as bass players with a last name of Sheehan go, I prefer Bobby over Billy myself. Blues Traveler was a pretty bitchin' band, and one of the only "jam" bands I tolerate.
  20. I considered picking a bass virtuoso, but most bass ninjas muck up the mix, IMO. I wanted a "background" bass player in this band, because the focus would be on the other elements. An Edgar Meyer or Billy Sheehan (in the rock world) are technically better players, but that's not what I'm looking for here. I always thought the guy from Wilco played understated, but decent lines. I guess his name is John, not Jeff. John Paul Jones would probably be another good choice. Also, my band will feature WZ and the younger Dylan doubling on harmonica occasionally.
  21. I think this band would put on a VERY interesting show, if all the members were alive and agreeable. Piano: Warren Zevon Marimba, organ: Tom Waits Lead guitars: Robert Cray, Kim Thayil Rhythm guitar, vocals: Frank Black Bass: Jeff Stirratt Drums: Matt Cameron Vocals: Greg Dulli, Neko Case, Jakob Dylan Trumpet: Al Hirt Trombone: Richie "La Bamba" Rosenberg Sax: Arno Hecht, Crispin Cioe The meshing of styles would be delicious. Also, listening to The Who's "Eminence Front."
  22. : ( <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't worry, you will have it (today), and it WILL be very good. The stuff of dreams, even.
  23. Awesome! Glad you picked it up, man. I saw Our Lady Peace for free about five years ago at a university sponsored show. They were.... okay. I was an idiot and decided I'd show my younger friends the proper way to "crowd surf." Fell pretty damn hard. Anyway, just to spite Laozi: Violent Femmes - Life is an Adventure
  24. I'll give you a dream band! ... on Monday, when I get back to work, and the Internet. Hooray for the weekend! I'm actually gonna get hooked up at my new pad, which is good, 'cause I haven't even scouted out the nearest library yet. I can tell you this much though.... there will be no Beatles in it. Edit: Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna
  25. Ooooh, the original! Paul Gilbert - Friday Night (Say Yeah) Did anybody know the guitarist from Mr. Big made some really rockin' solo albums? He's a fantastic technical guitar player, and he can write some poppy gems. @Mus: Is it safe to say that Blind Guardian album is not a remake of the Queen album?
