  1. The Zombies - Time of the Season what's your name? who's your daddy? is he rich like me?
  2. Ha. Figures. Their music was quite different back then, heh. Here's part of the "official" lyric transcription. Ol' big bad ass circle of power's comin' to getcha! (lots of screaming, mumbling) (spoken) Not necessarily dumb, but just uh...beautiful...beautiful... (/spoken) Soundgarden - Mood for Trouble Now that song kicks all kinds of buttocks.
  3. I could barely run Bloodlines, but I was able to due to some creative configuring. If you're having problems running the game at a good speed I highly recommend altering the config file to turn off 3d sky effects (you won't miss it much). I also have task manager open when I start the game and while it's initially loading I quickly change Bloodlines' priority to "low." It's supposed to prevent that memory drain thing. Seems to work. Very fun game, great dialogue, and stealth kills with very large hammers or katanas never get old.
  4. My favorite covers on that album are probably "Too Tough to Die" by Martina Topley-Bird and "Black is the Color..." Although the Dulli/Lanegan "Strange Fruit" is pretty powerful in its own way. You know, back in my Soundgarden worshipping days I actually recorded the the songs "665" and "667" from Ultramega OK onto my computer and reversed them using sound recorder (which could do that at that time, don't know for sure if it still does). What sounds like nonsense if played normally is actually really funny played backwards.
  5. It's on She Loves You, the covers album I was talking about a few days ago. They do everybody from Mazzy Star to Fleetwood Mac to Marvin Gaye. Nazi Driver..... good pick. You hear the song they let the bass player sing on that album? "Circle of Power." Awful.
  6. Oh boy, oh boy. I bet you'd like to hear the Twilight Singers version of "Hard Time Killing Floor." It's just Greg Dulli, Mark Lanegan and an acoustic guitar.
  7. I leave for a weekend and you guys get into a battle over Hootie and the Blowfish. Geez. Hootie has got a bum rap for years because their ridiculous ride from college rock bar band to gazillion-selling recording artists. That first album was a great album. It was like those early Michael Jackson CDs where every song was a hit. I had it on tape back in the day, and picked it up again for $1.99 on CD a few years back. Maybe it's because they were my first "real" concert, back in '98, but I refuse to jump on the Hootie-hater bandwagon. I had their second and third albums too - they were okay, but never matched the magic of that first one. As it is, we should all remember the words of that long-dead patriot, Patrick Henry. Then he said, "Give me Tubgirl or give me death!" Annnnyway, Warren Zevon - Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner
  8. Bob Marley & the Wailers - Get Up Stand Up
  9. The Reverend Horton Heat - Big Sky
  10. I'm at work, and thus cannot pontificate at length on the subject (nor would I want to), but art is whatever is aestetically pleasing to me. I consider the jawdropping environments Team Ninja made for the DOA games to be art. Same with the writing and voice acting of a particularly compelling NPC. They engage my mind in thought, and entertain me. Rosjberg is right - art can be entertainment. It can also be downright difficult and unintelligible. Sometimes one kind is better than the other, sometimes not.
  11. I don't like the "craftsman vs. artisan" debate, because I believe both painting a canvas and upholstering furniture can be considered art - if the creator is skilled and takes great care in his/her work.
  12. Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) edit for spelling: turned Marvin Gaye into Gromnir for a second there, before I flipped that "W" upside down.
  13. Oasis - The Masterplan dance if you wanna dance please brother, take a chance
  14. I didn't read it. She's probably telling the widows their dead husbands died because they didn't support our president enough, or have enough patriotic decals on their cars. And that they should stop mourning and clean the kitchen some more. I hate Ann Coulter.
  15. Yeah, even though he keeps it to just his voice and electric guitar he always gets his message across. It's good that somebody still flies the flag. Fat Mike can't do it alone, ya know.
  16. Billy Bragg - It Says Here A lovely comment on the newspaper business. When you wake up to the fact That your paper is Tory Just remember, there are two sides to every story
  17. And I like the Spit Enz version. I thought it was cool that Ted Leo preserved the original handclaps in his version, although he turns them into snare hits. The Split Enz have an interesting sound, sort of a new-wavey power pop. The Tragically Hip - New Orleans is Sinking Edit for a comment on new post: You know, there's way too much emo/screamo/whatever out there, but I still think that MCR album is good stuff. Those guys can write a catchy punk-pop song about murders, eyeliner and weddings.
  18. It would be a wise decision. DL can atest to the raw excellence of their version of Bjork's "Hyperballad" also on that album. The whole thing really is that good. The cover art is a bit... lewd, however. The Twilight Singers - Strange Fruit (Billie Holliday cover, with Mark Lanegan on backing vocals) Mr. Dulli has said he was challenged to cover the song, and was considering how to do it, when "She's So Heavy" by the Beatles came on - and the light bulb clicked.
  19. Witty! The Atomic Bitchwax - Gettin' Old
  20. Steve Earle - Tom Ames' Prayer Here's the first half of a great story/song. Everyone in Nacadoches knew Tom Ames would come to some bad end Well the sheriff had caught him stealin' chickens and such By the time that he was ten So one day his daddy took a ten dollar bill And he rolled it up in his hand He said "I know you're headed for trouble, son And your momma wouldn't understand." So he took that money and his brothers old bay And he left without a word of thanks Fell in with a crowd in some border town And he took to robbin' banks Outside the law your luck will run out fast And a few years came and went 'Till he's trapped in an alley in Abilene with all but four shells spent And he realized prayin' was the only thing That he hadn't ever tried Well he wasn't sure he knew quite how But he looked up to the sky He said "You don't owe me nothin' and as far as I know Lord, I don't owe nothin' to you And I ain't askin' for a miracle, Lord Just a little bit of luck will do And you know I ain't never prayed before But it always seemed to me If prayin' is the same as beggin' Lord I don't take no charity."
  21. Have you guys heard Halford's "Resurrection" album? I remember picking up a two-song demo tape of it at some concert. It was the title track and the song with Bruce Dickinson, "The One You Love To Hate." Pretty cool stuff, especially the title track, which was killer.
  22. Ripper Owens = The pride of Ohio. He's from Akron, ya know, the Rubber City. Well, him and Michael Stanley. Although I personally am more proud of The Black Keys, Guided by Voices and Cincinnati's own GREG DULLI!
  23. Thanks Bok. Guess not many people around here played it. Seems like it could be a fun game though, and five bucks won't break the bank. I'll probably get it.
  24. As with most tribute albums, that one has great moments and awful ones. The most horrific misstep was probably Adam Sandler howling his way through Werewolves of London. It is actually better than it sounds, but how can you cover Werewolves of London without the piano part? The piano part makes the song!!! For all those pixies fans, Black Francis and company are on the tribute album too - they do "Ain't That Pretty At All." Pink Floyd - The Final Cut
  25. Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye Fantastic song.
