  1. I took classes with Scott, the lead guitarist for Skeletonwitch, and shot the breeze with him many a time at the local record shop. He worked there, and talked music all damn day, as you would expect. I partied with them a few times, not often though, as I couldn't keep up with their drinking - and I was no slouch back then myself. He plays a red and black Gibson SG. Left-handed. And they absolutely kill live. Encored with Iron Maiden's The Trooper at a show I saw. Only cover they did, but everybody remembered it. \mn/
  2. WHOA! That is infinitely awesome! I went to college with those guys! How'd you hear about them? And how's the song? They were working on a CD when I knew them but having trouble 'cause they kept going through singers, I think. Amazing dual-guitar attack. (I hope I didn't mention them on here and you heard about them through some underground 'zine or something...)
  3. Eh, it's all downhill after 21. In America, anyway. We've got an extra three years of innocence and rebellion over here. Ah, the thrill of underage drinking !
  4. I would also love to go back in time to N'Arlins before the hurricane. I only got to spend one day there when I was in Louisiana with H4H. Not nearly enough to soak it all in.
  5. see Paris. No, not that Paris. Everybody's already seen her.
  6. never wait so long (so long, so long) never wait so looooooong! Told ya, Kor! That's actually my favorite pixies song as well, Eldar, although I know it may not be the best representative of their work. Anyway, Frank Black - I Heard Ramona Sing
  7. I must admit, I laughed out loud the first time I heard the "ashtray" line. Damn macabre of me, if I do say so myself. Twilight Singers - Forty Dollars
  8. The holy triumvirate of Whigs albums are Gentlemen, Black Love and 1965. I pick those three because they have a good balance of the band's styles. Gentlemen is the apex of their angry rawkin' side, and 1965 has Soul with a capital S. The biggest difference is that their music got less raw over time, the punk gave ground to the R&B influences. And when they disbanded and Dulli formed the Twilight Singers, it became even smoother - until this new album. Whigs fans that didn't like TS much are heralding it as a return to form. Best Afghan Whigs songs (totally subjective, but with a bit of consensus thrown in): Gentlemen If I Were Going My Curse Faded My Enemy Blame Etc. Somethin' Hot Neglekted John the Baptist Best Twilight Singers: Last Temptation The Twilight Kid Esta Noche Teenage Wristband Number Nine Hyperballad (Bjork cover) Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair (trad. cover) Too Tough to Die (Martina Topley Bird cover) Listed in rough chronological order.
  9. Oh yeah, Metallica is definitely rap metal. Everybody talks about the Motorhead and Diamond Head influences, but if you listen closely you can hear Hetfield ripping off Biggie Smalls.
  10. the sun don't come 'round here no more i know it won't be long i hope i see you out tonight and i hope we get it on First lyrics from Greg Dulli's mouth last night. The show was fantastic. They opened with the opener of the new album and played a bunch of stuff from it throughout the night. It all went over fairly well too even though nobody really knew it, because you could tell the band loved playing it. Greg Dulli lived up to the hype as one of the best frontmen out there - the first time he went from croon to scream I got chills. They played one Afghan Whigs song, Fountain and Fairfax, and it absolutely killed. Other highlights (for me) were Too Tough to Die from the covers album and Annie Mae from their first album. Listening to (for probably a week straight): The Twilight Singers - Powder Burns (album)
  11. Yeah, I'm finishing up at work and about to hit the road for Cleveland. Y'all can expect a full report on the show and the album tomorrow. They've been playing Afghan Whigs stuff on the tour too, I hear. If they play "Faded" I might cry.
  12. Twilight Singers - A Love Supreme > Stay (Don't Go Away) Coltrane cover into Marvin Gaye cover...... getting psyched for tonight.
  13. I see where you're differentiating LP and LB from the rest of the "nu metal" crowd, because of their rap elements (MC-type frontman, DJ), but I still consider bands like them and hed (PE) to be from the "nu" school. Qualifications: No solos, just heavy riffs Raging hormones Unfocused anger at the world Also, I wouldn't lump Shadows Fall in with the rest of that crowd. I haven't heard The War Within yet, but on previous albums they seemed to have more in common with traditional metal bands.
  14. And here I just thought you were really good at Quake III or something.
  15. The Rolling Stones - Dead Flowers
  16. This thread's blowin' up, yo! Bob Dylan - Changing of the Guard
  17. I have one Mercyful Fate album I bought back when I was a sophomore in high school. "Into the Unknown" it was called. Fairly decent metal, looking back, although back then we mostly just laughed at the King's ridiculous falsetto and song lyrics. One of my favorites: And it is waaaaaaaay past your deadtime! The night has just died!
  18. Sloane - Sugartune Social Distortion - Crown of Thorns Canadian power pop and the SoCal punk progenitors.
  19. Live - Waitress the girl's got a family she needs cash to buy aspirin for her pain and everybody's good enough ... for some change Throwing Copper is one of my favorite 90s albums.
  20. I had a GeForce 4 integrated 64 MB card in my computer when I bought it in 2003. This spring I upgraded to a GeForce 6600 GT. The only game I really needed it for was Bloodlines, but it's made KOTOR and GTA:SA look and play light years better as well. Before that I remember having a 1 MB video card in my family's first computer, a P133 IBM Aptiva, and I have no idea what was in the Dell they bought five years ago.
  21. We like to call him THE teen sex bomb. Mine is BigDaddyKane4Life. Well, not really. But you should still add that guy, he'd probably give you some fun conversations.
  22. I played some Unreal Tournament 2004 the other day, 'cause I had that FPS urge. First time I played it since I got my new graphic card several months ago, and it looked pretty snazzy.
  23. Hey, no harm on the Neil Diamond show, Eldar. That guy is one great songwriter. I grew up on Stones, Tap Root Manuscript and a few other Diamond LPs my mom used to play, and that stuff hasn't aged too badly. And I wouldn't call the Twilight Singers a big concert... they're playing a pretty small club and tickets are 14 bucks. I'm still excited though. Neil Diamond - Solitary Man
  24. Twilight Singers - Teenage Wristband you wanna go for a riiiiiiiiiiiiiide? i got 16 hours to burn, and i'm gonna stay up all niiiiiiiight all niiiiiiiiiiiiight! I'm gonna pick up their new album Wednesday..... AT THEIR SHOW IN CLEVELAND! YESSSSSSSSSSSS!
  25. Anybody see Eagles of Death Metal on Letterman the other night? They did that "I Want You So Hard" song out in the middle of the street. One-upping the infamous Audioslave marquee show, I guess. It was pretty good, although I didn't see Josh Homme from QOTSA, and I thought he was in that band. I mean, isn't that why people know who they are? Black Sabbath - Supernaut
