mmmm.... yep, that's her. See, you guys should all listen to Lovage! Anyway, CSNY - The Lee Shore

That's why I love the Internet. You get people who research their points to the level of published thesis papers, and you get people who make broad, generalizations about "retards," with no solid arguments behind their points. God Bless Al Gore.

Ooooh Baley, I like your edit. i'm a dream defiiiiiined.... and we'll make love together Who's the girl that sings with Patton on the Lovage album? Does she have her own thing going? Lovage - Stroker Ace stroke that shiny coat strokin' is the antidote stroke that it's a start only for the wild at heart

The Byrds - I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better (When You're Gone) The parentheses are my addition to the song. I think.

I don't think he's saying there is no difference, merely that they might have something in common. Effective marketing, that is, not backup dancers.

I agree with the formation of a thread devoted to listing any kind of music, in a manageable portion of a few songs at a time. Let's break down the genre walls! HIM - Wicked Game From what I hear, these guys are huge in Finland, and Bam Margera got them a record deal in the states. I think I missed the original phenomenon, but I can see why they're so popular. Pop rock with heavy guitars and a gothic lyrics about doomed love plays well with the Hot Topic crowd. Good call on the Chris Isaak cover, too.

It takes just as much intelligence for a pop band to craft a melody as a metal band takes to write a riff. There's dumb pop bands and there's dumb metal bands. From the complexity of the material, we tend to assume classical composers were all geniuses, but I'm sure that for every inspired composer there were others who just took their years and years of memorization training and cut and pasted their symphonies, Pro Tools-style. I call bull**** on the "pure" forms of musical expression being a sign of intelligence in people.

Sandisk m230 +50 bucks +512 MB +USB 2.0 +fits in pockets without leaving unsightly bulge +muggers will attack me based on my white earbuds, but will be pissed when they find out it's not an iPod -holds only a fraction of my music, but I don't need to carry every album I own around with me all the time. 512 is plenty for mobile. The rest can be backed up on the hard drive or DVD-Rs at home.

Oh, so now it's "best song ever" and not "Favorite songs." There is a distinct difference there. I think someone needs to start another topic. I WAS ONLY KIDDING! PLEASE DO NOT START ANOTHER TOPIC!

I thought the Winger joke was funny. And my favorite band is the unstoppable, inimitable Afghan Whigs.

Yeah, "Free Bird" is a good song, and "Simple Man" is a very good song, but I hate the "cult of Skynyrd." You know, that phenomenon that allows folks to listen to "Sweet Home Alabama" 30 times in a row and think nothing of it. And although "Free Bird" may have been great at one time, it's become such a cliched parody of itself through the years. And "That Smell" is just awful. One of the worst songs ever, IMO. The Yardbirds - For Your Love

I watched The Naked Gun 2 1/2 again the other day. Classic. Also, finally watched Blade Runner. Lived up to my expectations.

There's a metal band out there called "Pelican?" Please tell me they are being ironic, because that's one of the funniest things I can imagine. "Hello Des Moines! We are .... PELICAN!!!!!! Are you ready to ROCK?!?!?" clap......clap....clap.

I've found I like the live version of "Handshake Drugs" on Wilco's new live CD better than the original. In fact I like many of the live versions better than the originals for them for some reason. Wilco live - The Late Greats Oh yeah, and Eldar had some classic rockers there too.

Black Sabbath - A National Acrobat

He played that show in the Raiders tailgate lot with them too. The documentary (or as I like to call it "****-umentary") showed how bad he wanted to be in the band. He would have done what Jason was sick of doing: fellating James and Lars' egos.

Corrosion of Conformity is sweet, also. And the "We've Come for You All" album from Anthrax is pretty kickin. John Bush > Joey Belladonna
-
I saw the Flaming Lips on Letterman or Conan a week or two ago. The song they played seemed pretty boring to me. Faith No More - A Small Victory

I haven't listened to much metal in a while, but I've always tended to like the more melodic stuff. I don't dig the grindcore so much. Some of my favorites are Iron Maiden, Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Pantera, Shadows Fall, Megadeth and Metallica. Pretty mainstream, I know, but there's a young, unsigned metal band outta Ohio that everyone should give a listen. Skeletonwitch is their name, and they play some seriously fast thrash metal. They probably have some mp3s on a site somewhere. I had a few classes in college with their lead guitarist, who plays a left-handed Gibson SG! OW! Rock and roll! Edit: Oh, and In Flames. The Jester Race is a great album.

Baldurs Gate 2 Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball Two very different, but very great games. Although could you imagine if they combined them.... weird.
