You're damn right it is! Frank Black w/ Teenage Fanclub - Sister Isabel I tracked this one down... it's was originally done by Del Shannon, the rocker who brought us Runaway and Hats Off to Larry! I can still remember The night she said goodbye She said we'd meet again someday in a castle in the sky The choir has stopped singing I no longer hear the bells She changed her name from Laura to Sister Isabel

Steve Goodman is a great singer-songwriter... got into him through that song he did with John Prine, "Souvenirs." Guy knew how to write a great country song. Well, I'll stick around as long as you will let me You know I never minded standing in the rain You don't have to call me "Darlin," darlin, But you never even call me by my name

Lego Star Wars strikes back!
Haha, yeah it's a "platinum hit" for Xbox too, which means it's down to $20. My g/f bought it for me a week or so ago and we played it on co-op for a few hours. She liked it as much as I did, which is rare, 'cause she's not much of a gamer. Just shows the universal appeal of these games. I can't wait to see Lego Luke training on Degobah.

TOP 10 TV SHOWS!
I'm sick of lawyers, sick of forensics and sick of "regular guy" sitcoms. So I don't watch much TV. But I did enjoy Seinfeld, Cheers and Frasier back in the day. I have a feeling I would like Lost and 24 if I could find the time to watch all the back episodes (I'm not one for jumping in mid-season). AND I have recently been hooked by Buffy, as many folks here have. I'm midway through the third season now, and I'm enjoying it immensely. It's escapism, pure and simple. Same reason I play video games. If I want to learn something, I'll read a newpaper or watch a documentary. If I want a fun show with fun characters, I'll watch Buffy or one of the following shows: Family Guy Aqua Teen Hunger Force Sealab 2021 (although I haven't seen any Adult Swim in about 6 months) Fawlty Towers MST3000 Oh yeah, and because no one has mentioned it: THE CRITIC

On the topic of Morrowind: My Morrowind experience went like this: Installed, took my time creating a character and talking to everyone in the town. Found an axe and killed some little creatures by the beach. Yay. Walked out of town and into a cave of sorts, and swung my axe at some baddie a bunch of times (hardly ever making contact, even though it was right in front of me). Usually died there, so I reloaded and walked around some more before deciding never to play the game again.

It was like the ultimate demo! In all the old FPS games the shareware was usually a third of the full game. The first of three "episodes," that type of thing. Also, shareware used the finished version of the game. I think today's demos do that, but I don't know for sure. P.S. I actually forgot what thread this was while I was writing that. I thought somebody must have started a thread about demo length and I was posting in it. Weeeird.

I used to go to various singing performances back in college because my girlfriend was in the choir. Many were boring, but occasionally they really hit upon something fantastic. Like when the men's "elite" group did an acappella version of Toto's "Africa." It was so beautiful I almost cried. :'( I'd stop the raaaaaains down in Afffffffricaaaaaaaaaa

SW Cantina Ep4
Jedi Academy is fun, although I think the story isn't quite as good as Jedi Outcast. There are different saber types, like two sabers and double-bladed. There are different animations and effects from saber styles too, although I thought JO had the regular, fast, strong styles as well. It's defnitely a twitchfest. I can't beat the boss without cheating. I'm just not willing to get that good at it, when there's other fun games out there. I also don't repeatedly bang my head against brick walls. The swoop bike mission is VERY cool, and also very difficult. There's also a "train" mission that brought back pleasant memories of the train level in Goldeneye 64.

Ah! I've heard great things about this Peel gentleman. I gather he has had many great bands perform on his show through the years. So is the portly one a fan of the Fannies? (sorry, couldn't resist) P.S. Bob Dylan - I Threw it All Away Nashville Skyline is soooo underrated among Dylan albums.

Did anyone see the O'Jays on Letterman last week? They did "Love Train" on Valentine's Day, I think. Paul Shaffer and the CBS orchestra sat in for it. Then before they took it into commercial, I heard the opening strains of "Back Stabbers." Cool. @ Kor: Hold on, FB did a song with the Fannies? Right now: Chisel - What About Blighty?

Books/Movies that changed your life
That tv series was the bomb. I especially love the parts with the Army. :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, they actually have a 2-DVD set of the miniseries up for sale. It really was fantastic for a TV miniseries. Rob Lowe was great as Nick Andros, and who better to play Tom Cullen than Dauber from Coach! M-O-O-N. that spells Craig T. Nelson... The intro section with "Don't Fear the Reaper" was awesome too. But my favorite bit might be the descent into depression of that military brass dude (maybe played by Ed Harris?). "Yeats was right. Things fall apart, the center cannot hold."

Heh, like most people I only know "Because I Got High," but I can't even count the number of times a song on the radio piqued my interest and I explored the artist's back catalogue to find stuff I liked a lot more than the single. Anyway, I've had this insidious pop song stuck in my head for two days now, ever since I heard it during dinner at Red Lobster Saturday. It sounds like a 50s girl group song, but it's got sort of a calypso/reggae beat with guitar upstrokes on the "2" and "4" and a horn section melody. The lyrics were something like "The tide is high (time is right?) and daaa-da-da, I'm gonna be your number (only?) one." Over and over again.

Books/Movies that changed your life
Stephen King's "The Stand" rocked me pretty hard the first time I read it. I'd grown up with good vs. evil in TV, books and movies. Everyone has, but The Stand was different. The fear was believable, the scale was incredible and the level of detail was right down to the song that was on the radio when the world went to hell.

I remember when I moved into my crappy college house we found a burned copy of Weezer's Pinkerton in the basement. I ended up listening to it probably 15 times that weekend I went down to paint and tear up the nasty puke-stained carpet. It really is a fantastic piece of work. The album, not the house.

Don't Cry Over Spilled "Coffee"
Thanks for all the feedback everybody! And believe me Eldar, when I ended that sentence with a preposition in the name of "casual writing," I died a little. The correct way was just, just too clumsy for a column! Ahh, but it still pained me. For the record, I still remember some of the fatalities. D,D,F,F LP was an easy one for Johnny Cage to rip off his opponent's torso. Scorpion's "Toasty" was a classic, too. D,D,U,U and one of the punch buttons, but that was tricky because you had to hold block while doing it. Ah, and there was that super tricky Shang Tsung fatality, where you had to hold the Low Kick button for like 30 seconds, which meant you had to hold it for most of the second round of fighting too! I guess that proves when something is forbidden, that just makes it more alluring.
