  1. Yes, do we? also, are the IWD games any good? I hear they're pretty, but lacking in the story department. You build your own party, I believe, so there's no interparty interaction - which is my favorite part of the BG series.
  2. Let's keep it going! Soul Asylum - Without a Trace i fell in love with a hooker she laughed in my face so seriously i took her i was a disgrace i was out of line, i was out of place out of time to save face see the open mouth of my suitcase sayin' "leave this place" leave without a trace... leave without a trace... you leave.... without a trace
  3. I think many of you are missing the point of Peragus. It's supposed to be empty, because of events your prescence has (inadvertently) caused! Yeah, it's a drag on repeated playthroughs, but that first time through it provided a very interesting mystery angle. I thought it was ballsy of the writers to tell the story mostly through holovid recordings.
  4. Twilight Singers - There's Been an Accident Pixies - Is She Weird and... Foreigner - Jukebox Hero
  5. I watched Logan's Run this weekend. Classic sci-fi movie about a utopian city "bubble" on the face of a ravaged world, where everyone lives for pleasure... until your 30th birthday when you must try for rebirth in a crazy ritual. Very good stuff. Bonus: Classic pinup Farrah Fawcett was in it!
  6. Soul Asylum - Summer of Drugs (Victoria Williams cover) Sister got bit by a copperhead snake in the woods behind the house Nobody was home so I grabbed her foot and I sucked that poison out Sister got better in a month or two when the swelling it went down But I'd started out my teenage years with a poison in my mouth.
  7. Yul Brynner has NEVER made a bad movie, sir! Sheesh, what's next? Defaming The Magnificent Seven? (I know, I know, Seven Samurai, Kurosawa, whatever. Yul Brynner rules.)
  8. Well, you know, like Lennon said... "whatever gets you through the night, 'salright" .... Wait, no! Unacceptable!
  9. The Lion in Winter. Man, that's a classic. One minute, 1,283 classic films. I have a feeling someone has a list somewhere. Hmmmm?
  10. 1st place in the grammatically mangled song lyric competition, classic rock division, goes to AMERICA! @sucky: The guitarist from Skeletonwitch e-mailed me back today. He said...
  11. Your thoughts? Besides "sexy." No, I'm not talking about the DEP song. It's probably not sexy.
  12. I sent an e-mail, but I've only talked to the guitarist once since graduation (last year), but I did tell him Skeletonwitch should go on a Eurotour! Ted Leo - Ghosts (The Jam cover) Link to the mp3 from TL's official website
  13. I have actually accomplished a lot of things I'm proud of... but there's still a lot I want to do before I'll be content to pick a banjo on my front porch all day. Have done: played guitar and sang in my own band played solo open mic shows (that was much harder than playing with a band) been to Hawaii (albeit with parents when I was like 11) made out with two women at the same time (one of them was even cute) helped build houses for people who were down on their luck proposed to the love of my life (neither of the girls from above) still on the to-do list: get a job that doesn't suck go on a Caribbean cruise with my buds see a game at Fenway Park tour Europe get back in shape (not even high-school shape, i'd be content with first few years of college-shape) write the Great American Novel convince Soundgarden to get back together convince Nickleback to stop making music see The Twilight Singers at least two more times get hitched, so I can spend more than weekends with my woman (those darn Catholics and their rules )
  14. Blank's review is worthy of the title: Bitchin' Narrative
  15. I took classes with Scott, the lead guitarist for Skeletonwitch, and shot the breeze with him many a time at the local record shop. He worked there, and talked music all damn day, as you would expect. I partied with them a few times, not often though, as I couldn't keep up with their drinking - and I was no slouch back then myself. He plays a red and black Gibson SG. Left-handed. And they absolutely kill live. Encored with Iron Maiden's The Trooper at a show I saw. Only cover they did, but everybody remembered it. \mn/
  16. WHOA! That is infinitely awesome! I went to college with those guys! How'd you hear about them? And how's the song? They were working on a CD when I knew them but having trouble 'cause they kept going through singers, I think. Amazing dual-guitar attack. (I hope I didn't mention them on here and you heard about them through some underground 'zine or something...)
  17. Eh, it's all downhill after 21. In America, anyway. We've got an extra three years of innocence and rebellion over here. Ah, the thrill of underage drinking !
  18. I would also love to go back in time to N'Arlins before the hurricane. I only got to spend one day there when I was in Louisiana with H4H. Not nearly enough to soak it all in.
  19. see Paris. No, not that Paris. Everybody's already seen her.
  20. never wait so long (so long, so long) never wait so looooooong! Told ya, Kor! That's actually my favorite pixies song as well, Eldar, although I know it may not be the best representative of their work. Anyway, Frank Black - I Heard Ramona Sing
  21. I must admit, I laughed out loud the first time I heard the "ashtray" line. Damn macabre of me, if I do say so myself. Twilight Singers - Forty Dollars
  22. The holy triumvirate of Whigs albums are Gentlemen, Black Love and 1965. I pick those three because they have a good balance of the band's styles. Gentlemen is the apex of their angry rawkin' side, and 1965 has Soul with a capital S. The biggest difference is that their music got less raw over time, the punk gave ground to the R&B influences. And when they disbanded and Dulli formed the Twilight Singers, it became even smoother - until this new album. Whigs fans that didn't like TS much are heralding it as a return to form. Best Afghan Whigs songs (totally subjective, but with a bit of consensus thrown in): Gentlemen If I Were Going My Curse Faded My Enemy Blame Etc. Somethin' Hot Neglekted John the Baptist Best Twilight Singers: Last Temptation The Twilight Kid Esta Noche Teenage Wristband Number Nine Hyperballad (Bjork cover) Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair (trad. cover) Too Tough to Die (Martina Topley Bird cover) Listed in rough chronological order.
  23. Oh yeah, Metallica is definitely rap metal. Everybody talks about the Motorhead and Diamond Head influences, but if you listen closely you can hear Hetfield ripping off Biggie Smalls.
  24. the sun don't come 'round here no more i know it won't be long i hope i see you out tonight and i hope we get it on First lyrics from Greg Dulli's mouth last night. The show was fantastic. They opened with the opener of the new album and played a bunch of stuff from it throughout the night. It all went over fairly well too even though nobody really knew it, because you could tell the band loved playing it. Greg Dulli lived up to the hype as one of the best frontmen out there - the first time he went from croon to scream I got chills. They played one Afghan Whigs song, Fountain and Fairfax, and it absolutely killed. Other highlights (for me) were Too Tough to Die from the covers album and Annie Mae from their first album. Listening to (for probably a week straight): The Twilight Singers - Powder Burns (album)
  25. Yeah, I'm finishing up at work and about to hit the road for Cleveland. Y'all can expect a full report on the show and the album tomorrow. They've been playing Afghan Whigs stuff on the tour too, I hear. If they play "Faded" I might cry.
