  1. A Winner is You! Oh man, somebody should print t-shirts. No, better, they should incorporate it into the Drug-Free America marketing plan. Maybe then it wouldn't be such a doomed effort.
  2. Morrissey. Just kidding. Rowdy Roddy Piper. Yeah, I watched it for about a year in my impressionable youth. Wouldn't do it again, although Hogan's daughter seems to be taking the path of Paris Hilton.
  3. Soundgarden - Karaoke From some B-side or another. Groovy riff, great vocals. I'm guessing it probably dates somewhere between Superunknown and Down on the Upside.
  4. Man, when I saw the Avellone spot at PA at work today, I said "I am so going to post that." But, alas, I have been beaten to the punch.
  5. Bought Starship Troopers on DVD. Man, I love that movie. I remember sneaking into it in theaters back in the day. My buddy and I bought tickets to some Grisham courtroom snoozer that was PG-13, haha.
  6. ... and the meek shall inherit the earth... Specifically, "The Temples of Syrinx." Specifically, "Outtasite (Outta mind)."
  7. Larry 7 was great! It's called Love for Sail and it takes place on a cruise ship. I thought LSL 6 was good too, although not quite up there with LSL 2, which was fantastic. The best part may be the Chinese "Spork" vendor who was raised by Irish missionaries. I didn't bother with Magna **** Laude, because Al Lowe was not involved. And if he's not writing it, it's not a true Larry game. Anyway, Wolfenstein 3D was my first game. I played the Larrys too, but my first RPG was KOTOR, ha.
  8. Big Star - Thirteen won't you tell me what you're thinkin' of would you be an outlaw for my love?
  9. Yeah, the whole CD is pretty cool, and now that I've heard it, I swear my old band was ripping off "Rudderless" in one of our songs. Very possible, because the singer/songwriter was such a Lemonheads fan he bought the Evan Dando solo album that came out about a year ago. Gnarls Barkley - Gone Daddy Gone
  10. Ah, I see keeping the same avatar since I registered has given me a primo spot in the upcoming Obsidian forum film. Good show, pixies, good show. Also, I concur that the Wals lego man is dead-on. And some of the others are quite good as well. I hope the plot will include several twists to leave the audience bewildered and confused... and the production will have a killer soundtrack.
  11. Boy, some people never learn. Good luck.
  12. Como estas, mi amigos! I picked up "It's a Shame About Ray" by the Lemonheads for one dollar at the local used CD shop. Couldn't believe my luck. Also, a friend got me a copy of that Gnarls Barkley CD. It's very, very good, and I almost fell out of my chair when I heard their cover of "Gone Daddy Gone" (Violent Femmes). Lemonheads - Allison's Starting to Happen @ KQD: Your episode with the 5-0 got me remembering that old Robin Williams stand-up bit about getting pulled over. "Quick, eat everything in the ashtray!"
  13. Dude, if you can play Primus, you're a better bass player than I. @pixies: I was actually listening to Dog in the Sand the other day. I think it's the best album with the Catholics. But now, it's ... Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Timorous Me
  14. The "33" is the number of words in the pledge. When the family was thinking of what they wanted the bottle to say, they had a bunch of drafts. The one they liked was composed of 33 words, and whoever wrote the draft wrote the number of words underneath it. That's how they sent it to the printer, and when the bottles all came back with 33s on them, a Depression-era new business was not about to just toss them. Or at least that's how the story seems to go. Edit: And a fried bologna sandwich, with melted cheese. Mmmmmm.
  15. Fantastic song. That's on Small Change, right? Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
  16. Wynona's Big Brown Beaver was a great song. Tom Waits - Blind Love I think Keith Richards sings backup and plays guitar on this one.
  17. Yeah. I wrote a column about the whole thing for the paper. It's funny, they want us to write columns every few weeks, but there's only a few things I'm passionate enough about to write 800 well-thought-out words on. Music, obviously, is one. Video games are another, and beer is a third. I basically whined about how A-B is bankrupting the city of Latrobe by doing this, as well as destroying one of the last independent successful breweries. Then I went into the whole history of the mysterious "33" on the bottle. It was fun and a few people took the time to write me on it, so that was cool.
  18. ^ That is a question better left unanswered. Beer. Does that count? It's Rolling Rock, Latrobe's finest (and only) beer. At least until Anheuser-Busch moves their production at the end of July. I've boycotted those bastards for stealing the quirkiness of my favorite summer beer.
  19. What caused the change? Besides the music of Johnny Cash?
  20. I picked up a Wolfmother EP last spring. I think it was a precursor to a full-length for them. Either way, they're a throwback to 70s metal a la Sabbath or Zeppelin (but mostly Sabbath). Anyway, I'm listening to Bruce Springsteen's crazy folk-rock ensemble tackle these old Pete Seeger songs. He uses the horn section from the Max Weinberg 7.... so La Bamba plays trombone on the CD! Well, that was cool to me anyway. Springsteen & company - Erie Canal
  21. Ha, no they never do, do they. I suppose that makes them the "coolest" though, right? Bruce Springsteen - Lost in the Flood (live) Everybody's wrecked on Main St. From drinking unholy blood
  22. I really wanted to listen to my Danzig CD on 6-6-06, but I forgot. Well, there's a chance that'll never come again, ha. NOFX - Freedom Like a Shopping Cart
  23. I second the "Monterrey is beautiful" comment. Check out the sea lions by all the shops on the wharf. They have a really nice marina too, with sharks, eels and all sorts of fishies. For something less touristy, go to Carmel and pretend you're one of those rich bastards who lives there. Wasn't Clint Eastwood the mayor of Carmel for a while? Oh, and San Francisco is one of my coolest cities in the world. Get breakfast at Mama's and if you want to really fork out the cash, get dinner at Scoma's on the pier.
  24. There's a version of that song on the Beatles anthology that is head and shoulders better than the final album version, IMO. Instead of a subdued solo, George just rips it up. He has a few more flourishes throughout the song on that version too. Buckcherry - For the Movies Yes, I know it's cheesy, and I really don't care. Also, Baley inspired me to dig out Ultramega OK from my collection and I gave that sucker a full play while driving today. Man, Soundgarden would have been a lot different if Kim Thayil wrote all the songs. Whatever happened to that guy? Far as I know, the only thing he did after Soundgarden broke up was a few songs with the Presidents of the USA and a crazy collaboration with Sean Kinney, Krist Novoselic and Johnny Cash on a Willie Nelson tribute album.
