you should try another profession because as reviewer you won't have success. I smell a lot of ridiculous hate . The comment about loot ( too human loot system is better by miles) made me LOL and i agree with you on that . Loot need get better between levels ...the only thing i got is lot of white loot; basically the same again and again. Good thing I'm a software developer and not a reviewer I guess. Why should I for example rate multiplayer a 4 or 5 out of 10 when I found it only just enjoyable for a few hours... and I think the only reason I found it remotely enjoyable was because I was playing with my brother co-op in a video game for the first time in quite some time... and not because of the actual game itself. So it gets a 0 in my book (if I was using the crazy inflated scores review sites use it would be a 5/10). Also this wasn't suppose to be a review from me anyway, it was suppose to be a "Less than a week and I'm done - my impressions' topic, however a moderator merged it into this topic... and I guess it's given the impression I was trying to do a professional review? That's far from the case, it was just my thoughts and a rating to reflect it. Yes there is a lot of hate towards this product from me, but I would hardly call it ridiculous. Obsidian took a series I absolutely loved and turned it into something I despise... I was looking for the next Dungeon Siege and quite frankly this game fell so far short of that it isn't even funny anymore. Even rating this game on it's own merits and not even using the rest of the series a comparison the game is a below average game. At the end of the day if Obsidian wanted to make Dungeon Siege 3 they should of made a game that was going to please the fan of the series. If they wanted to make a game that pleased Obsidian fans they should of stuck with a new I.P. or one of their own. Unfortunately they have tried to mix both, that's one of the reasons you see a large amount of negative comments in many forums and reviews. The rest come from the game being pretty terrible game on it's own. What they have ended up with is a game that has pleased some Obsidian fans while completely disrespecting Dungeon Siege fans.

I'm confused at why some peoples times are so high... mine was around 10 hours... I got every lore entry, every quest, etc, etc. There are no NPC's to interact with other than quest givers, no mini games, really nothing to do other than the main quest... The only way I can see people taking so long is people getting stuck on boss fights... I played on hardcore and learned the encounters fairly quickly... they only require a few tries to learn some of the harder ones and then another try to execute it all... I find it very hard to believe it took you another 7 hours on top of what it took me to learn such encounters... unless of course you are generally bad at video games? First playthrough = 10 hours... any playthrough after 5-6 hours.

So is Dungeon Siege 3...

since when 74 is a "low" score? on a 100 scale, 74 is 3/4s, how is that "low"? Very few games get below 60 and it's been this way for a very long time now. If you browse metacritic by RPG then Dungeon Siege 3 will appear on page 15 towards the bottom out of 32 pages (page 32 only has a couple games on it). So Dungeon Siege 3 is about the half way mark... half of all RPG's got a better score than it... A score of 60 only first appears on page 26/32 (there are about 30 games listed per page). Game reviews have been on a terrible scale for a long time now, the values have been inflated far too much. So basically the 60-70 range typically means bad, 70-80 average, 80-90 good, 90-100 excellent.

See these are stats we should be judging on not silly weekly rankings the TC posted. You can be #1 for release week but be an absolute commercial failure. Dungeon Siege 3 has been released in a time with no other big name titles... had it been released in april/may or october/november when the big name titles of the year are released it's ranking would be quite terrible.
-
What exactly is it up against this week new release wise? Let's go with actual figures rather than rankings on release week when there hasn't been any other releases to really compete with it

Finished the game with all characters, got all achievements... I honestly had no motivation to play after the first playthrough other than to get the remaining achievements. Honestly what else is there to do in this game? I suppose I'll add my two cents about the game overall: Story This was suppose to be one of the strong points? It's incredibly boring and very predictable. The NPC's standing still and having absolutely no kind of physical reaction to anything that is going on doesn't help either. Deciding whether a NPC lives or dies makes no difference in their response, it's better to close your eyes and imagine how they would be responding. For one of the elements that this game was supposed to be focusing on it certainly didn't deliver. I can barely tell the difference between this story centric game and one that is not, other than the excessive amount of extremely bland and boring dialogue. Combat - 3/10 This is actually quite enjoyable to start off with. However as soon as you progress through the game it becomes very boring due to the complete lack of skills. Late game rather than being excited about a new powerful ability you have unlocked... you are simply unlocking abilities that you decided to skip for another earlier on. The boss fights I do admit were decent, it was good that it wasn't a button mash fest. I liked learning the boss fights. Loot - 2/10 Again this is another thing that was enjoyable in the first hour or two of the game, however got boring extremely quickly. The loot table is terrible, the items are not interesting, and they barely have any effect on your character anyway. I think one review put it best, you end up feeling like you are simply a garbage collector. You purchase the best loot in the game two seconds before it's over... No item sets, no socketing, no crafting, no enchanting... The original had a far better loot table, should of just copied and pasted that, I would of been happy and new players wouldn't know it's simply been copied and pasted. Singleplayer - 1/10 The AI partner is terrible, stands in fire and dies over and over. It ends up just being a revive fest of a game. The game is over quicker than it began at 9 hours. This would be an acceptable game length for a FPS, however RPG's are generally expected to provide a lot longer. Replayability - 0/10 See other points. Multiplayer - 0/10 This was what captured me in the original. I played it's multiplayer component for years. While enjoyable for a bit with my brother couch co-op, but as soon as another person joined it was complete chaos. You pretty much have to all be on a mic with the host telling everyone which way he is going other wise it turns into a teleporting mess with the screen then refocusing and most times losing track were you actually are. So essentially it becomes a 2 player multiplayer because anything more is a complete headache, down from the original which was 8 player. Note: The scale I have used is an actual scale and not an inflated scale that most review sites use were 6/10 = bad. Note 2: The above is primarily based with separating DS3 from it's predecessors and judging it as a completely new I.P. with only a few references to the original. Note 3: I also played this on Xbox 360, if I had played on PC I probably would have been a lot harsher. General Criticism (mainly comparison of lacking features compared to the original) - Only 4 player Co-op compared to 8 player Multiplayer (Co-op or PVP) of the original - Extremely narrow corridor world, makes the Kingdom of Ehb out to be a joke, compared to the lush vast terrain that I remember it to be. - No real interaction with any NPCS other then quest givers. - Typically only one type of shop, a general store... - No ability to go into buildings in towns - Towns in general are just a joke (see above points). - The references to the original like the mule, heroes' crypt etc, rather than paying a nice homage, it only further reminded me what this game is lacking. - No New Game+ - Terrible camera - Barely noticeable visual changes for loot - No secret level (can't believe they didn't go with this running tradition of Dungeon Siege) - No Dragon Wing (one of my favourite weapons out of all RPGs, I spent hundreds of dungeon crawls to get one with the best stats possible!) - No Dragons (seriously?) - No variety when it comes to summonable companions (The original had tons, this has two) - Only one campaign (The original had two, one for the main story, one for multiplayer). - etc This time last year I was really looking forward to 2011 after both this and Mortal Kombat were announced. I think the first blow was Mortal Kombat being banned in my country... I ended up importing it for less than half the price I would of had to pay here though. Mortal Kombat got pretty much everything right, it was everything I expected for a continuation of the series (in a reboot sort of way). There are a few things I disagreed with Mortal Kombat 2011, but they pretty much come down to costume design of my favourite character (Reptile), that was my only issue with the entire game, otherwise a perfect game! Dungeon Siege 3 on the other hand disappointed me in every single way, rather than going back to the roots of the original like MK2011 did, DS3 went off on some bizarre path and completely destroyed what Dungeon Siege is. It annoys me quite a bit how wrong Obsidian got this (from looking at reviews and feedback in forums it seems the only people that think this is average to decent are ones that never played DS1). I keep hearing from the developers "we didn't want to be Diablo"... yeah that's well and good but you could of just gone for "being Dungeon Siege" rather than random game with the Dungeon Siege name slapped on it... you know there were games before DS3, this wasn't a completely new IP. I know you tried hard Obsidian, and I thank you for attempting to revive this series, but you really screwed it up. Maybe if you could go back in time and do it all again, first reach out to the DS community, and ask them what they loved about DS, rather than making assumptions of what we wanted in a sequel. I understand that there was a lot wrong with the original DS when comparing it to other games, but it got a lot right, and it ended up building quite a great community. I formed quite a number of new friendships because of that game, this I will form none. I guess now it's the GPG era of DS and the Obsidian era of DS because the two really don't mesh, and for the most part they don't attract a playerbase remotely close to each other. I think the big gaming sites like IGN/Gamespot have got their reviews fairly correct, and accurately reflect a lot of my opinions about this game. Those reviews are also going to hurt sales quite a lot too, compared to the original DS that got 85 on IGN (DS3 got 65). In the end DS1 = played many years after release DS3 = completely finished with the game in less than a week. I suppose it's off to get store credit on this one tomorrow

DS3 is the first decent Dungeon Siege Game
Matt-C replied to Hurlshort's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
and yet sites like IGN and Gamespot gave the originals far better review scores? Sorry it's not just the DS fanboys. -
Two hours? What difficulty? Even on hardcore I can do it solo without needing to be revived every single time... only took about 5-10 minutes to completely learn the encounter... If you have a character that has a pet it makes the encounter very very very easy (on hardcore) as the adds will basically focus on your pet the entire time till they are instant killed by the boss.

I think the following comment from the IGN review: "Dungeon Siege III is a dungeon crawler with a boring loot table, poorly implemented multiplayer, and little lasting incentive to continue running around the world once the tedious story ends. " and from the Gamespot review: "Dungeon Siege III is a fun but unambitious dungeon crawler that fails to live up to the games that came before it." Pretty much sum up my thoughts about the game. Although everyone here told me to wait to the game is released / wait for the reviews / etc... I kind of feel sorry for the devs, it's gotta be pretty depressing to see something they have worked so hard on get absolutely destroyed by the media / long terms series fans.

Only have a couple achievements left... thought this game was going to last me a few weeks at least... ended up simply being a one weekend game getting the last couple achievements is the only motivation I have for playing this game.. Pretty annoying considering I played the original Dungeon Siege for years.

I had no problems with KB+M. Have you played with a controller? It would appear that the game has been designed with the xbox controller in mind. The KB+M you can get use to, but the controller is a lot better.
-
I would say using the xbox controller is the easiest to play. So I would go Xbox or get an xbox controller for PC.

Hey, I'm having trouble getting the achievement for beating the game with Anjali. I've completed the game with the other three and get to corresponding achievements no problem. However the one for Anjali just won't unlock. I've joined a few random peoples games and finished the last boss with Anjali... about 4 times now... I'm just wondering if clearing the cache will fix this issue as I don't really want to clear the cache if I don't have to. Would be great if a dev could respond about this? It's going to be quite annoying if I get stuck with having all achievements unlocked except for this one due to some kind of bug

so we buy the game what about the online?
Matt-C replied to peri's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
I think what TC is asking for is a patch to essentially rework how multiplayer mode works. The sticky in this forum mentions nothing about that. -
Have you tried turning your game to a private game after another person joins?

Beat the game - a bit short :-(
Matt-C replied to SuperSaiyan4's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Really? I got just over 10 (elapsed time, I did it in one sitting haha) and also got the perfectionist achievement... I'm thinking the longer time is quite possibly by people who can't understand boss tactics and sit there dying over and over? and yes before you ask I did listen to all dialogue, it really annoyed my brother that I did that haha. -
In game time seems to be correct on xbox... I beat the game in one sitting and compared the time and it lined up okay. 9 hours is fine for everything... I got just a bit over that and got the perfectionist achievement, so I did all the optional quests too.

Some updates re: feedback
Matt-C replied to Nathaniel Chapman's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Thank you for reading my posts Nathaniel =) I have just got the game so will be posting some feedback in the near future! -
You know you can't transfer your characters from game to game right? Do you mean new game plus style? Cause thats exactly what I was asking.... No, as In you can't take your character from your game to your friends game.
