  1. Even if that is the case, it isn't exactly just some dude showing up complaining about DS3, it's a lot of people. This forum is actually quite decent with feedback compared to others (and even so it's still pretty bad here), but that's because the main people on this forum have been Obsidian fanbois for years.
  2. This isn't an anything focused game. Every time someone asks why something in this game has been terribly implemented the response is "that isn't the focus of this game". <carefully compiled list> You forgot a few things... Not translated into Basque language - Not the focus of the game Not released on the 25th of May - not the focus on the game Not adapted to Kinect interface - not the focus of the game Not playable on a persistent dedicated server - not the focus of the game Not released on iPhone - not the focus of the game Not made for Matt-C specifically - not the focus of the game ...and so on and so on. I think you've decided that it isn't what you want and you are feeling angry that other people might actually like it. Who knows, maybe the focus of the game is simply that it is fun to play for those who participated in the making of it, like just running around hack and slashing monsters and bosses while gathering increasingly powerful loot? On the other hand, without the game you would have missed out on all the fun you've had recently, hanging out here, insulting people, being all negative and trying to come up with new ways of elaborating on why nothing is right. You've probably spent more hours on that than many people spend on playing some AAA titles and ought to donate the amount of a full game to your favourite charity in return haha love your list, although I think you took it a bit far. My list was simply made up of features this games predecessors had but this one lacks. I honestly hope people spend more time on the games they have purchased than I have on this forum... but I guess you are right, and I am in a fairly giving mood right now, so I'll donate $100 (Australia gets owned with computer game prices) to a charity
  3. This isn't an anything focused game. Every time someone asks why something in this game has been terribly implemented the response is "that isn't the focus of this game". Outdated Graphics - not the focus of the game No PvP - not the focus of the game Terrible Co-Op - not the focus of the game No character persistence across games - not the focus of the game Low level cap - not the focus of the game Only a small portion of the loot has a visual difference - not the focus of the game Predefined characters and classes - not the focus of the game Character lasts the scope of a single playthrough (no newgame+ etc) - not the focus of the game the list goes on and on How is it that so many people just naturally thought these basic features would be in the game? Because they are the staple of any decent ARPG? because the original had all these features 10 years ago? who knows. I was reading the GameFaqs forums today and all I could see were posts about people cancelling their pre-orders because they all thought this game would follow on from DS1/DS2/typical ARPGs. Apparently the focus is storytelling, and it may be premature for me to say this, but I really doubt it will be a memorable story in any way, shape, or form.. Let's look at the hypothetical situation of Obsidian acquiring the rights to the Diablo franchise and then pulling a stunt like this, would the reaction be the exactly the same as mine to DS3? Of course it would be, just on a much much larger scale. Obsidian are somewhat lucky that the fan base for Dungeon Siege is nowhere near that of Diablo, but does that give them the right to butcher everything that made Dungeon Siege? Well apparently they think so.
  4. I suggest still trying the game, Obsidian deserve a chance. Maybe pick up the demo or rent it first. Although it would be best if you don't go into it thinking you are going to be playing a sequel to Dungeon Siege.
  5. It's amusing you have defended a terrible design choice(persistent characters across games) with the use of another terrible design choice (max level 30). It seems that one terrible decision on Obsidians (storytelling? lol) part has caused a cascade effect that ruined every other part of the game.
  6. Let me get this straight, because the failed at life gamestop store manager (or possibly 15 year old first job kid) told you that it was the hottest rpg coming out you instantly handed over $60? Since you are so easily sold, I'm going to just answer yes to all your remaining questions.
  7. The host player does keep the loot and XP you have earned. This also means that other random players can join the hosts players game and play your character while you are offline etc. The only way for what you have just described to work would be if the hosts game was private and only the same other 3 players joined the game every single time. This makes it very difficult to have four of the same people online at the same time to progress through the game. Many of us live busy lives and just want to be able to jump on for an hour each night and play some multiplayer irrespective of whether 3 of the same friends are on or not. So this leaves a situation of you always choosing to host to keep your progress... It's a very strange decision as many players interested in this sort of game like persistent characters, however the drop in drop out of this is more akin to an older FPS style game, because hell even the latest FPS games have persistent characters/profiles.
  8. This is basically what makes the large amount of loot pointless =(
  9. Yes maybe my criticism went a little too far. There are plenty of things in my life I poured my heart into that turned out to be complete failures. You learn and become better from things like this, but only if you actually realise your mistake and accept it. I think it's premature to presume that DSIII is a failure. It's also arrogant to assume that, because it's not the game you wanted, it's not a game that anyone wants. Honestly there's really nothing else to say about this - everyone who reads this forum can understand that you're not happy with the direction of the game and repeatedly posting it isn't going to achieve much other than giving you carpal tunnel and annoying people who want to actually discuss the game. QFT

  11. Based on what I have seen in forums, news posts, etc it's been about 50/50. Now considering these are people that were actually interested in the game at some point during the development cycle but now are not, how can you be happy about that? Overall the response to the multiplayer has been very negative. Where are all these people you speak of? Other than a few loyal Obsidian fans on this forum defending it (hell even half of the 'fanbois' are not even defending this one). Not everyone, but I'm sure if you aimed for over 50% that would be appreciated. As the people who enjoy what you have done with the multiplayer is far less than that. You tampered with an already existing series and dramatically changed it. It's not just the internet where you will find harsh comments and people speaking negatively about the product you produced. You mention people working hard on this game, who cares? Working hard doesn't get you anywhere if you can't deliver results. You guys aren't in school anymore where you get a certificate for effort/participation. So don't bother mentioning peoples 12+ hour days if you have failed to deliver. No you weren't making Diablo 3, you were making Dungeon Siege 3, this is where you seem to be confused. I understand what Obsidian have set out to create, however why use an existing IP that doesn't fit this end goal in the slightest? At the end of the day what is going to sell millions more copies and be played 10 years from now? Will it be DS3 or Diablo 3 with it's PvP mode, "no story' and ability to play with randoms... Damn Blizzard for not being smart and lacking quality. You guys keep using the excuses 'but we set out to do this, and I think we achieved that'. It doesn't make it any less of a terrible idea. Say if I set out to break the law, and I accomplished that, should I be respected that I achieved something stupid? No, and neither should you. I'm sorry if you personally feel insulted Nathaniel Chapman, however you work in an industry where this is going to happen for the rest of your life. So man up and wipe away the tears and accept that there are going to be people that just don't like the decisions you have made, welcome to a little thing we call life.
  12. Clearly you are an Obsidian "fanboi" and your opinion doesn't count. quoted for truth
  13. Yeah sorry some of us here actually played Dungeon Siege and are not just simply Obsidian fanbois
  14. It was the best single handed sword in the original I ended up doing hundreds of runs to get one with a decent stats. (due to the large amount of prefixes and suffixes in the game).
  15. Hey to the mod who merged all my topics into one. The first topic was about the Dragon Wing, not dragons. Now my initial post has lost it's original meaning =(
  16. Hey do any of you wise Obsidian fans know if they have included the Chicken level in this? I think it would be a great tribute to the original.
  17. I couldn't see any in the demo! A dungeon crawler wouldn't be a dungeon crawler without dungeons right? Or will the only siege I be taking part in is against the what is bound to be one of the most memorable stories in any game to date!
  18. I think the obvious answer is: Obsidian weren't thinking.
  19. Hey the ever so busy developers that are known for their amazing graphics, bug free, and extremely fun games. Will there be Dragons in this game? I think that honestly was a really good aspect of the original. Too many RPG's seem to forget about dragons these days. Best yet in the original if you went the nature magic route you could summon a green dragon, or if you went combat magic you could summon a black dragon! Will we be able to have dragon pets?
  20. no no no, I meant the "play the character through only once" and "not able to save progress on someone else's game" stuff. how the hell do you save a character on another person's console anyway? and how do you expect to join someone mid-game in that case? with your lvl 20 char, when the host is 10. wait for someone to pop up who's at exactly the same place in the game as you? and what's that "play only once" thing? even Diablo forced players to start new characters if on the same difficulty level. besides, it doesn't tie in with the rest of the game. That is how ARPG's are, and how the first two Dungeon Sieges were. Not the wait for the other person to be up to the same point, you could go back and help them. Diablo multiplayer you could go through the game as many times as you want with the same character. you a 90's kid, aren't you? have you ever played any consoles other than xbox360, Wii or PS3? Nintendo 64 sounds familiar? Dreamcast? PS2 at least? that's how console games were before xbox live? split-screen or shared screen, game saved to a memory card or a similar devise, you can't have your character unless it's on your machine. you have it easy now. and it's not like it should've always stayed that way. it's great that people today can connect via internet and play console games. but don't expect a game like that to mimic Battle.net Why refer to an age were these games were created like that due to technical limitations of the time? It makes no sense. I started gaming in the early SNES days era... So complete lol to your reference to N64... Are you trying to say that Dungeon Siege 3 should not take advantage of the advancement of technology and rather simulate a game of the 80/90s for no other reason than for the sake of it? Dungeon Siege did a pretty damn good job at creating a great online experience, now 10 years later, why can't it's sequel? Oh that's right because MR know it all believes we should mimic games of the 80s because the kids of today just have it too easy.
  21. If you're planning to play with your brother-in-law and him only then you won't have a problem. One of you hosts the game, you play together, gain loot and experience. And when you start a new session and you'll both be where you left off. Your character will have the same loot and the same xp. If the host keeps playing SP, or MP with someone else, from the same save, then yes, the non-host would suffer. But if they start a separate SP game that's fine. You are not helping. It's a terrible way to handle any kind of multiplayer. Obsidian should of saved themselves the shame and kept this singleplayer.
