MMOs are almost all grind-a-thons. Bascially you pay money for the honor of endlessly killing "mobs" If I want to endlessly kill enemies, I can just play a rapid spawning map of Starcraft.

No, you are incorrect. Certain other items do carry over. Like the Claw of Kerzawagawhatever that I'm fond of. Also, based on what you were carrying, certain other items will be found in the dungeon. As for statraising... you are forgetting those +1 stat books 1 for each stat, with 3 for wisdom
