  1. Wondering if Feargus got the heads up regarding this game before he did the interview.
  2. Or you could go the PBS Newshour way and bore ourselves to death with dry, non-sensationalistic, and civil deba---discussion. Zzzzzzz.
  3. One could argue that television news programs places more emphasis on entertainment than actual news. Neil Postman's Amusing Ourselves to Death is thirty years old but is still relevant in its indictment of media culture. http://www.amazon.com/Amusing-Ourselves-Death-Discourse-Business/dp/014303653X
  4. Bill McNeal. He's the Newsman among Newsmen. Salud.
  5. Aaron Sorkin had written/produced some of my favorite television shows and movies that are intelligent, high-minded, informative, and obviously well researched. Credits include: Sports Night, The West Wing, A Few Good Men, The American President, Charlie Wilson's War, Moneyball, and The Social Network. He's also written a few duds (relative for his standards) such as Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and yes, The Newsroom. Thing is, The Newsroom would be Jon Stewart's idealized version of what a cable news show should be. The show doesn't really work because of its preachy and condensing nature and well, sometimes Sorkin needs to get off his soapbox because he's not nearly as funny as Stewart while ripping contemporary news media.
  6. He essentially destroyed that show and it was soon cancelled, after being around since CNN's inception. Both Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson haven't been relevant in media circles since.
  7. Only "Backers" have the ability to purchase beta keys. Those who pre-ordered after the backer period cannot. That being said, YOU could actually purchase a key for your friend.
  8. Greek Freak!! He has that genuine naïveté, optimism, and potential that makes it impossible to not root for a guy like that.
  9. *European scratches head dumbly* I try to force in basketball analogies no matter how square or round the balls and holes are. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/68989-pro-hoops-2k14-2k15/ Although this one may have been awkwardly forced. Oh Welp.
  10. Indeed. But to also throw around the "unprofessional" label is a bit rich, and I would like to see the poster's reasons for such. ...The Sacramento Kings are a joke franchise right now in NBA circles. They fired Mike Malone, a respected up and coming coach who has the buy-in of the players and were off to their best start in over a decade. His replacement is Ty Corbin. By universal consensus, he is a terrible head coach. He had a poor showing in his previous head coaching campaigns with Utah, and his team has completely regressed under his sinking ship. It's fair game to rip him. Long story short, he was placed in an impossible situation as he is both under-qualified and is tactically challenged to be succesful --and this does not account for the turmoil surrounding him. However, by all accounts, he has been professional throughout this whole ordeal even as he knows that he's about to be shown the door in a few days... --Debate all we want about Obsidian's design decisions, art, sound, bugs, etc., ...but unprofessional? Hardly. So please, do explain.
  11. I would hope that companion interactions would NOT be most similar to BG1. My expectation is PS:T level of depth.
  12. So I guess it's still a wait and see, but at least it's not outright cancellation just yet.... This would be a great scenario.
  13. Are you implying that Obsidian is exhibiting unprofessional conduct or that they are amateur game developers?
  14. Feargus speaks. http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/9/8005145/why-one-of-d-ds-biggest-video-game-devs-thinks-that-tabletop-game-has "The new version of D&D came out last year and people are thinking about what is ultimately going to happen with D&D," he said. "One of the reasons we actually went with Pathfinder was ... how do you say it? I'll just say it: We were having a hard time figuring out how to move forward with Dungeons and Dragons." "It's hard to move away from something you love and I love D&D. Pathfinder is an important part of the pen-and-paper role-playing world and I love working with them. They want it to succeed and it's theirs. With D&D it's a little more complicated because they have Hasbro and others involved." "So, I think that this is the difficulty: D&D is a part of Wizards of the Coast and WotC is a part of Hasbro," he said. ...shots fired? Equivalent of Obsidian dumping D&D and going steady with Paizo.
  15. High praise from you. Isn't that the same score you gave your favorite RPG of all time? PS When is your NWN module coming out?
  16. Why do you all hate Star Trek so much? Are you anti-progress? Because that's the only LOGICAL conclusion I can make.
  17. Yup. Afterall, this could happen. You don't want to come back as a ghost.
  18. Meier's approach in designing this game. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/sid-meier-s-starships-going-beyond-beyond-earth/1100-6424735/ "When I did Pirates and Civilization and Railroads, we spent a year on a game," says Meier, "and two-thirds of that time was actively designing the game. Changing it, playing it every day. These days, we might spend two or three years on a game, but there's only the same amount of actual game design time. So what I wanted to get back to was a method of making games that really focused on game design, that allowed us to spend most of our time designing and maybe a little less of our time on all the other stuff needed to make games." "We can do games on a shorter schedule," he continues, "but there's still the same amount of actual game design, the same amount of time spent iterating and evolving the game as with other games. For me, the fun part is the design and watching it grow and iterating, and this approach gives us the ability to kind of focus most of our time and energy on that part of what we're making." Which explains the relatively low production values we've seen so far. I like the idea behind auteur style game design. He's going back to his roots.
  19. Voyager. It had to be Voyager. Never liked Voyager. But I can see the resemblance now.
  20. Heh. Of course, the bane of all tablets and smartphone users are autocorrect and typo fails.
  21. I consider myself well versed in Trek lore, but I am failing at this particular lore check.
  22. Part of what makes me excited about this game is that this is one of Meier's pet projects --small team, lower budget, and freedom for him to to design and iterate based on his sensibilities. When you give a guy of his credentials and artistic vision the independence to make a game that he wants to make --these are the types of bets I can always get behind.
