UK Muslims targeted for speaking out about terror
Oerwinde replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
You mean things like honesty, hard work and all that jazz? Once again, you're assuming immigrants don't have that. I mean more like don't murder your daughter because she's dating a mexican.(this happened in Vancouver, dude didn't even think he did anything wrong) -

When I say integrate, I mean have an understanding and acceptance of local values as well as a good enough grasp of the predominant language that they can be understood when speaking it and understand when being spoken to. By acceptanceof local values I mean for example, while an immigrant doesn't have to celebrate christmas, they can't complain that the locals celebrating christmas while they're around Is some sort of insult to them. -

What has stared happenig in Vancouver, I can't speak for elsewhere, is that with the rate of immigration, there are larger and larger immigrant communities that are insular, and its becoming easier and easier for immigrants to get by without integrating. Businesses start seeing that there are large communities that only speak tagalog or mandarin, or punjab, so they start offering services in those languages in order to attract the business, further hindering integration. This causes a lot of issues with police, because largely the police only speak english. Its one thing to have an intermixing of cultures, but its just become so easy not to intermix. -
Yeah, Del Toro did it because he loves giant monster movies and was in a position to get one made to his specs. I liked that his giant monster movie was fun, unlike a certain Lord of the Rings director.

The clerics who radicalize them are the ones who need to go. -
Made a friend mad when I found out she was a Nancy Grace fan and I referred to Nancy Grace as the human equivalent of a punch to the ****. Turned out because I had also poked fun at Glee and ripped on Sun News (Canadian version of Fox News, but done on the cheap and more overtly racist) it was the last straw in me picking on her interests. Now I feel bad.

Got Game of Thrones in a humble bundle, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Liking the Alester storyline more than the Bors one so far.

Nothing can prepare you for the moment you hold the little thing. Its like a movie explosion, with your old life exploding in a firey inferno behind you, but you're some kind of Stallone/Schwarzenegger hybrid not giving a **** and walking stoicly into the future. My kids are both the best and worst thing to happen to me. As an introvert, excessive human contact stresses me out, and kids mean constant human contact with no time to recharge. So I'm essentially a giant ball of tired stress with gorgeous kids. So here's hoping you can handle the lack of "me" time better than I do.

Buy a big ass Samsung TV and use it to clobber him to death. Might be the only thing that would work. He's essentially an articulate Volourn with a history degree. He takes everything said by everyone literally, is entirely convinced that he is right even in the face of overwhelming evidence, and not just in this argument.

Arguing with a guy on the Alternate History wikia site. He says Samsung isn't a major electronics company and without their phones wouldn't really be a blip.

Malaysia banned anyone but Muslims from using the word Allah. I guess since Islam predated Christianity there, Christians use Allah as their word for God there too. Now they aren't allowed to.

If Obsidian kickstarts a space opera RPG, would you back it?
Oerwinde replied to Arcoss's topic in Computer and Console
One based in Firefly's solar system would be ideal Kickstarter-bait. Its a property that would get a lot of backers with pretty big money, that wouldn't otherwise be commercially viable. -
Just found out Copper didn't get renewed for a 3rd season. Disappointing because while season 2 started off weak and the dynamic of last season was screwed up due to Corky finding his wife, and his partner being tossed in jail, its halfway through the season now and he kicked his wife out and his partner got reinstated so I was hoping it would pick up again.

I don't get the problem with laugh tracks. I find comedies without them feel uncomfortable. Only ones I've been able to enjoy were Better off Ted and Outsourced.

Ok, well lets look at other Muslim countries, we've already established Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Somalia, and the Arab muslim countries as giant crap holes of horrible people, what's left?
-
It was necessary though. Pilot just had a bunch of random people put together. 2nd episode was about them becoming a team, and while it wasn't executed all that well, the 3rd episode they felt less like random people thrust together.

http://www.cspipublishing.com/statistical/pdf/Statistical_Islam.pdf This is interesting. Breaks down the Koran, Sira, and Hadith to statistical data. Finds that Islam is more a political ideology than a religion.

I think when the kids move out I'll have to sit down and watch all 14 fast and furious movies

I actually enjoyed Avatar more in 2d. Actually, every movie I've seen in 3d has been better in 2d.

The real question is whether Dune has entered public domain yet. When did Frank Herbert die? Copyright term is 75 years after the death of the creator I think. -
Huh, would a Caliph really be good? I could see this going both ways. Depends on the Caliph. If you get a crazy blow up the infidels type of Caliph that would be bad, you get someone who is more level headed and actually believes Islam is a religion of peace and rules accordingly and it could be very good.

I mean Christianity has at least evolved over the last thousand years, and you can expect contradictions when half of the bible was written like a thousand years before the 2nd half. When was the last time a group of christians burned down a neighborhood because a guy who lived there may have at one point said the bible was nonsense? They need a Caliph that isn't a complete prick to drag them into the 21st century.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/blast-at-buddhist-temple-in-indonesia/article4991186.ece Wrong, Indonesia is one of the most intolerant places on the planet. Imagine Missisipi but with less law and less control, where it's ok to attack people ON THE SUSPICION they may have insulted Islam. Ok. Islam is just crap then.

As evidenced in Cambodia, Vietnam, etc. Also, when you look at Islam, you have to look at the largest Muslim country. How many indonesians do you see suicide bombing children? I think its not so much that Islam is a garbage religion, its that Arabs have a garbage culture.
