I agree, his defense is positioning him as a harmless and eccentric conspiracy nut. Yet he clearly was driven by more than that and had a vendetta against the USA. So I still feel he needs to face prison time. Which he won't now, at least not in the USA
-
Ah, but he's an English Conspiracy Nut.. You never know how an American jury will react. Too many hollywood movies with Brits as the bad guys.. I have to admit, I've known a few folks from the States who are quite schizophrenic in how they view England... One moment they're treating it all as "charming, traditional, that lovely queen" and the next its all "Rahr! Independance! Freedom! Evil England!" It can be quite bizarre You make me laugh, good points

This discussion is so stupid yet you feel the need to both comment and,may I say,add some good insight? Weird that one hey

People (especially younger people) tend to be very extreme in their opinions. It's either this or that, hardly ever is there any middle ground. I played and enjoyed a whole pletora of RPGs and enjoyed a lot of them (including all the Mass Effects, as crappy as the ending to the trilogy were). Were they better than my beloved BG2? Nope. It doesn't mean, however, that they are complete garbage. I agree 100%. The only point I have to make is that on these forums it tends to be older people, like me, who seem to be vociferously anti-Bioware and lambaste people that say " I like Bioware games" So what is worse? A younger person that makes strange comments as he doesn't know better. Or an older person who makes the same comments but should know better? (I think the latter )

I know this point has been made in other posts but I agree with the Op. The greatest RPG I have ever played is BG2. Granted I never played Planescape and I am sure it is excellent I also want to make another point ,what I find strange on these forums is that to admit you like Bioware makes you some kind of RPG pariah for some. I enjoyed DA1&2 and the ME series. Were they as good as the original Bioware games, no not for me. But they were still entertaining and I am very confidant that Bioware will continue to make enjoyable games. We all know that the days of them making games like PE are over. But does that mean we have to have so much vitriol directed at Bioware all the time? Like it all not they have hundreds of thousands of fans that are reasonable and intelligent who just want to play good RPG. Who are we to write them all off?

Okay, we misunderstood each other. I consider any discrimination against women on any level in any country as something unacceptable But I understand you were only referring to the salary issue which you are questioning if it is discrimination anyway

Naturally I can only speak for myself, but I like to hope that most of the people that want to see romance make it into the game, want BG/2, PS:T etc. style romances, and not the BSN kind that has made some people have an aversion to the very idea of romance in a modern RPG. Edit: Personally I don't hate on people who like BSN romances, to each their own and all, I just think obsidian could do better with this game. PS:T romances =/= BG2 romances. In the former the romances were subtle, delicate and tied with the story. They were more hinted at than full-scale sex affairs. BG2, on the other hand, had the precursor of modern ego-stroking romances. Cheesy, obnoxious and poorly written, not to mention completely separated from the plot. They also made the romanceable characters' dialogues (aside from the romances themselves) non-existant. I never said that they were the same, the intention to Monte Carlo was that if romances get in at all, they should be more along the lines of the RPG's of old, rather then more modern games You missed the point. Romances in BG2 were much more similar to those of ME or DA than to Torment's. I see, well we must have very different memories of BG2, as I don't remember it being any where near as terrible as some of the recent romances. I have to be honest I also enjoyed the Romances\Sex in BG2. I courted Viconia, she was smoking hot I have never played Planescape so I can't objectively comment on there implementation of Romances

Is it necessary to abuse people every time that you don't like their opinion? I also get annoyed by these negative characterizations of people by some when people suggest they want Romance\Sex. Its like anyone who wants Romance\Sex is a " Biowarian, Sexual Deviant who doesn't understand what an RPG is" ( And for the record there is nothing wrong with liking Bioware) @ Monte Carlo You clearly are an intelligent and astute person. I am surprised you are so comfortable with blanket comments about people who want Romance\Sex. I would think this would be intellectually below you. You should consider what you say about people who just happen to have a difference of opinion about what constitutes an RPG?

I want to be a dragon
BruceVC replied to Dragonnn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That is true actually, I don't think Obsidian has discussed whether you can be a dragon race. I doubt it as it does seem to add a level of unnecessary complexity but who can say at this early stage of the game? -
Blodhemn you need to credit with me more insight and intelligence. I am a South African, who lives in South Africa but I work for a global American company. I travel overseas to work in African, the Middle East and Europe fairly regularly. Trust me when I say that discrimination against women is both alive and well in many African and Middle East countries. This is not something I have embellished, and I can verify its real as I have seen it. Now there are some cultural reasons why we see this in certain countries, it doesn't make it right but it does explain why changes to women rights can take time in some places. But we should unequivocally condemn any form of bigotry against women in Western countries, there is no justification or reason for it. Any bigotry needs to be condemned but this discussion is about the abuse of women so I am focusing on that.

It never ceases to amaze me what people will complain about, its almost like some people need to complain about an aspect of a game or they feel they lack identity . Lets take this concept of a Mega Dungeon. Most of us have been really excited about the idea. I have never seen a Mega dungeon implemented in a RPG in my life in such a grand way with so many levels. We don't know much about it as its early days so how can we complain about what it " might or might not have". What we know is that this is a unique and exciting part of the game that is being only developed and expanded due to the number of people supporting PE. How can anyone not be excited by the concept? Any negativity truly stupefies me I like you Krezack and I respect your opinions on the Way Off Topic section but this type criticism is just making you look silly and petulant

Most women are cold and self serving. Why should I care about an issue(abortion), which for the most part is a result of their irresponsibility? I can't even understand why a man would make this his number one priority unless he's grasping at straws and has little else to vote on. Blodhemn I am finding your generalizations, ignorance and borderline misogyny offense. Do you not accept that on many levels in society and in many cultures women are discriminated against. Do you not feel that this type of bigotry is something we should rally against and publicly condemn. In the fight against abuse of women how does a comment like " why should we care about abortion, its probably there own fault " help?
-
I hear what you are saying, but the issue is there are many people who do believe that the American legal system is exactly the same as it was under Bush. You honestly hear an aargument for example, that Julian Assange will be ttortured and executed in the USA. Some people are saying the same about Mckinnon. They still justify there objection to extradition based on how a person "wwould be inhumanely treated in the USA"
-
Yet we need to ask "are they slip ups " or are they really what a candidate thinks but knows how socially unacceptable his views would be? I believe the latter. I remember watching Romney describe how concerned he was that he couldn't find "qualified women for some campaign or university and how hard he looked so that not just men were represented" .It just seemed false and something he knew he had to say. Its like the "47%" gaff, I believe he believes that. You could even argue that from an economic perspective he is right, but a President is more than just numbers and hard facts. I truly believe that Obama does represent the middle class and the indigent people of the USA better than Romney. I also believe he has more empathy for them them Romney

Romance and friendship?
BruceVC replied to Krikkert's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Good points, good points. Therefore the tasteful and mature implementation of Romance\Sex should be no issue in the game for people of such eminent technical ability? -
Norway appoints Muslim woman Minister of Culture
BruceVC replied to obyknven's topic in Way Off-Topic
I feel OP is just an ignorant racist, and a coward for not saying where he is from. Even in your 'profile quote' you slander Russians. Must be safe hiding behind anonymity and spew useless negativity at other countries, hm? A little insecure about yourself and must yell at other people to feel validated? Who knows? You might be a Norwegian, but it doesn't matter, because what you say is absurd. How can you point to an article and not have read it before opening your mouth? "Oh, Norway must hate themselves for letting a non-caucasian be in Norwegian politics." So? America was built by imigrants, which is one of the most influential countries in the world. There are a ton of blacks and asian people in politics in The Great Britain and Canada too.. So lots of countries are doing it. Norway isn't doing anything different than them. The article also states that: "She(Hadia Tajik) was born in Strand, Rogaland (Norway). She studied human rights at Kingston University in England, and has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Stavanger University College (Norway) and studied law at the University of Oslo (Norway)." She has an educational foundation in human rights (Social understanding, which she learned while travelling to a respected University), she has bachelor in journalism (understanding in how Norwegian media and the people thinks), and she has studied our laws, while being in Norway. She was also born and raised in Norway. She has good educational background. You'd be an idiot not hire her. So what if she has a different personal religion that she practices at home, or has a different skin color than most people there? Only racists care about that stuff. Your post is both thought provoking and accurate. Nice one -
Okay thanks, but 28% is still a huge difference for the same job. Is this something that is known about and accepted or is this behavior that is actually illegal? It isn't something that is easy to enforce legally. You aren't just dealing with one company that pays men more than women. It gets even messier when dealing with bonuses and such, so a base salary may be equal, but many executives pull in more on bonuses than anything else. Okay, I see the difficulty in actually enforcing it. Its not as clear as just a salary but the difference can be in the structures in the overall remuneration a person receives .

Chris Roberts is back! Wing Commander legacy continue
BruceVC replied to vahadar's topic in Way Off-Topic
Thanks for the information, I didn't know about this so I'll investigate it and see if I want to assist with funding. I have a question? Why wouldn't a person use KS for fan funding? -
Is there still a pay difference that high nowadays in the USA?

Obama was much better this time and the polls indicate that he was ahead of Romney in this debate. So I am happy as these types of events obviously do matter to the voting public in the USA
