There was a time during Jade Empire development where the building they were in received catastrophic flooding and caused a lot of intense damage including server damage. Much of Jade Empire's finaling occurred in a hotel as a result. I wouldn't be surprised if something like that is what caused those original things to be lost. Alan you may have an informed opinion on this type of question. Why would they have left out the cinematics in BGEE and are they difficult to recreate from scratch?
-
Not really. Sub-standard curricula educational systems that only prepare for set standardised tests teachers who work too many hours in classes with too many students for them to be able to actually pay attention to them facilities in various states of disrepair parents who need to work two jobs because with one 8 hour shift a day the below minimum wage income isn't enough to raise a kid (as if minimum wage was) Then we have all those countries that ask for specialists with 5 year experience for every other job, but people can become teachers without any prior training whatsoever. On the lines of "Couldn't cope it in the industry? Don't worry, go stand in a classroom." Could go on. And on. Won't though I tend to agree with these points and I was going to make similar comments. A child born in abject poverty with a very bad public school system is at a disadvantage. Thats not to say they can't uplift themselves through education but its harder. The parents are unemployed or don't have an education themselves but this is a result of the social conditions of the particular country, this was not the parents intention and also not the parents fault. So I would argue most of the time tracing the root cause of bad education is not due to the parents. So the causes of badly educated children will be different from first and third world countries

A few missing movies? That is a huge percentage of the movies. I mean it won't ruin the game or anything but why take out very cool content to replace it with nothing? Its probably got to do with the fact that the quality of movies would be way below the graphics standard of the game. The movies would look incongruous compared to the rest of the game. Now the question may be "why not remake the movies with the same improved graphic standard? " I have no idea how difficult or technically challenging it is to remake these types of cinematics but if it was quick job I am sure they would have done it.
-
Well you have no comparison to compare with. You won't know what's missing because most of the movies and cut scenes have been taken out. You'll go to a new area and think nothing of it. However, for some people that have played it year after year, it may feel a little strange expecting a cutscene to a new area, chapter, town, city, etc and there isn't any. It also comes back to my question: Imagine a developer saying they are going to enhance all the cinematics in BG2 and then having nearly every cutscene and movie taken out of BG2 and relabelling BG2 'Enhanced Edition'. You seem to be okay with this? Since you've played BG2, you would know what is missing from the game. Would you want most of the movies and cutscenes taken out? It's the same thing with BGEE. Honestly I don't consider the cinematics as a very important part of an RPG or rather that relevant. I think you are comfortable with them and you expect them to be part of the game, so the thought of them being left out makes you think "this will detract from my experience. Thats why for me playing BG1 for the first time I want to look at the gameplay objectively with no previous opinion and then comment on the overall entertainment factor that BGEE provides

They added to the story the first time through, usually at Act changes. There are also different areas where they pop up too. They also give you a hint as to what may happen in that act or new area. Some examples below with spoilers: Nashkel: Gnoll running along the fence to a house while the farmer's wife says goodbye to her husband. Sewers: Eggs shown at the bottom of the sewers - probably Carrion crawler eggs. Gnoll Fortress: Pans through and down a pit. Cloakwood Forest: Wyvern comes out of nowhere and takes off with a cow. They add to the story and immersion to the game. Imagine a developer saying they are going to enhance all the cinematics in BG2 and then having nearly every cutscene and movie taken out of BG2 and relabelling it an 'Enhanced Edition'. You seem to be okay with this? Okay, I see your point. I'll play the game and let you know if I felt anything was missing as it will be my first time and I won't have any expectations.

I'm glad you celebrated in your own way. What might be fun is a visit to a nice, welcoming strip club. The girls love "b-days" and will spoil you rotten. Yes you will have to pay but where in life don't we pay for things?

PR. Palestine was created at the same time, and if Israel were to eliminate it they'd either A) have to integrate the muslim population into their own or B) have to expel the muslim population. One is entirely unwanted by them, the other becomes a PR nightmare. That's one likely cause, the other one is probably Western support. Yes I think its a combination of all 3 factors. Nowadays annihilation of a nation or ethnic group is generally frowned upon

Hahaha, same here! Though I'm kind of excited for the release of ME 1 on the PS3. Playing that on the PS3 is sort of fun and nostalgic at the same time. Getting Far Cry 3 in a few hours, ohboiohboiohboi! Gotta put Dragon Age on pause again. Goddammit! This is the third time I am quiting the game halfway through. Keep us updated on what you think about Far Cry 3, I am keen to try the game.

Can I ask a stupid question, as I haven't played BG1 but I have played BG2,why would a few missing movies detract from the overall gaming experience. You still get to explore, fight creatures and make decisions that influence the game?

Assassin's creed makes it better than RPGS
BruceVC replied to Wulfic's topic in Computer and Console
I love randomly killing people in the streets in AC using the silent method. I don't kill enough to get the level reset but whenever someone annoys me, like commenting on my actions, they are as good as dead- 43 replies

I was watching a documentary about how strong the Swedish education system is, its obviously due to people like you. So good work, you probably don't feel it but you are doing a really good service for your country. I wish my country had an education system like yours. In our public schools there are so many examples of complete ineptitude and lack of effort from teachers. They are more concerned with striking than educating the youth. We honestly get some people who finish school but they are unemployable, they can barely speak English.

Okay that does sound a little boring, I'll still try it though. Would you say its the worse AC compared to the earlier ones?- 43 replies

Come on Orogun did you seriously forget your own b-day? What are you going to do to celebrate? I consider B-days a celebration of life, so happy B-day :w00t: Well happy birthday. So is it heading to that fine balance point where you aren't so much celebrating another year of life, as are more counting off one more year to the grave? You funny Raithe, that cracked me up

Thanks guys, Xbox controller it is

*Shivers* Says it all. Why? I never got the elitist attitude that playing a game on PC with a controller is "not the true PC experience" or somehow "lesser" (BTW, I'm not accusing you or anyone here of this ). PC controllers have been around for well over a decade. Some games play better with controllers, like most platformers and essentially any driving/racing game ever made. Flight sims ans space sims play better with joysticks. Shooters play better with mouse & keyboard. There are better tools than others for certain games, simple as. Well I have decided I will be purchasing a Controller just for games like Sleeping Dogs. I agree with your points above around the advantages with a Controller. What type do you recommend? Or are they all the same
-
Fine, it plays fine with keyboard and mouse for me. Edit: On a side note, I don't know a single other person who uses arrow keys for movement, but I'm not here to dispute your figures, I'm sure there are plenty of people that prefer that over WASD. Point is, to answer your original question, the game is indeed better with a 360 controller. You'll be surprised how many people use the arrow keys, check the links below. I am still playing the game its just harder and I have to get use to other keys http://forums.sleepi...t=1164&start=30 http://forums.steamp...d.php?t=2873636

Sleeping Dogs plays fine with mouse & keyboard except driving, but then again driving sucks in any game with mouse & keyboard. Most of the other keybindings you can change no problem, but I never tried the movement keys. For me it was a null point since I just used a 360 controller for everything except gunfights (which are a somewhat small part of the game), the game definitely plays better with a controller. There are just some games that play better with a controller, namely driving games and platformers, Sleeping Dogs definitely fits into that category too. With all due respects you cannot say "sleeping dogs plays fine with KB", it doesn't. You cannot map the arrow keys and this immediately handicaps thousands of people who use this for movement. This is a fact and it cannot be disputed

Very excited, I have read the reviews and they all seem good

They conquered the area 3500 years ago and kicked out the people who lived there. They conquered the area 1300 years ago and kicked out the people who lived there. this is my point, both sides can claim historical rights to the land.
-
Okay thanks for the input, I am consideriing this as option for this game and others like Dark Souls where a controller is recommended
-
I agree 100 %, I am doggedly a PC person. I would have never bought this game if I known about the arrow keys, I am just trying to get it to work as I hate wasting money In all my years of gaming there was only one game I gave up on due to functionality and that was Rage, and all its issues with the ATI video cards
-
I agree. But yet this is the argument you do hear from the Palestinians and Hamas, they often say that the Jews are "invaders" and "have no right to the land" I am not saying who is more right or wrong. I am just saying that neither side can say they have more historical claim to the land, I think they both do in there own way What historical claim do the jews have? What accurate historical claim do the Palestinians have?

Yes he also kindly sent me the games I requested, very generous and unexpected
