  1. 1000 years of darkness!!1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg14hRntRpg He should rather continue counting to infinity... It would be completely laughable if so many Americans probably didn't believe this. It worries me when I see the influence of Christian fundamentalism creep into and establish itself in American politics. Also I thought that I was ignorant when it come to understanding the intricacies of American politics but even I know that Obama can only have 4 more years, not 1000
  2. So I strongly disagree. It does matter. I guess I am assuming that with control of both houses and the executive, the Dems can pull off some decent policy. Well, if they can do anything about greenhouse gas emissions in the US combined with a continued push for wind+solar adoption (even if it's just a ****ing measly 5% to start with, like Australia's), then that's change I can believe in. For the record: Obama pushed hard on building loads and loads of new solar power stations towards the end of his 1st term. So there is history to back up my hope. I support another Obama re-election. I am a South African but I work for a global American company and travel to the USA and Europe about 4-6 times a year. I also believe that when America sneezes the world gets a cold, so I follow and enjoy the whole American machinery as it is relevant to world affairs. The perception of the USA really suffered under Bush, there will be always be American haters but Obama has done a lot to positively change that perception. Romney seems to espouse a much more militant and arrogant American image around foreign ppolicy For example he was dismissive of Russia and Putin in his tour of Poland and very belligerent towards Iran. So Obama is much better for America's global decisions in my view if you want to avoid the Bush era foreign policy decisions. Romney isn't very popular amongst the minority groups in America, especially Hispanics. And this is due to how he positioned himself to win the Republican candidacy. So he has dug his own grave amongst these groups in the vote. Finally his "47%" comments still shows he doesn't get the average, financially suffering American citizen. Or he just doesn't care. Despite all the spin from his advisor's and supporters he comes across as an elitist and out of touch with certain grassroot issues. He has suffered in the Polls due to this comment. All this bodes well for Obama despite the state of the American economy. I intend to stay awake all night watching the Election in 2012, its fascinating seeing the graphs on CNN and seeing the red\blue states voting outcomes
  3. N Also: More at the mentioned link. (EDIT; btw, only a few moments ago I noticed it was already mentioned in the "known information" thread, but I still think it might deserve its own topic :D) Nice interview, thanks for the link
  4. Actually they aren't the only group, I am a straight male and I support this idea in the interest of equality. Its not like you will even notice it if you don't want to but it clearly will make a difference to people so how will it hurt or change your gaming experience. Please respond, by allowing this character choice how will it effect your RPG experience?
  5. I think its a reasonable and rationale question. You shouldn't ever feel the need in life to explain or justify your sexual orientation. I live in a country where your sexual orientation is protected in our constitution and everyone has a right to human dignity, we are very proud and supportive of our Constitution . I have been surprised on these forums by the occasional bigoted and derogatory comments I have seen by some that people think are an "expression of free speech". These comments are generally around the whole issue of homosexuality in the game on any level
  6. Why not? Why not :D? It doesn't have to be as much as adventure games, but one or two plot pitfalls can really make the game more exciting I agree, the plot choices should influence other choices but not where you can't finish the main story. There should be consequences
  7. People still have to buy the game afterwards. And in enough number, to encourage other projects. If Wasteland and PE fail to bring in the monies, the interest in this sort of stuff will dry up pretty quickly. Yes in essence what Bos says. Normally software projects work on a standard Opex and Capex cost model The KS fund raising is what they have estimated is needed to create the game over the next 24 months. This includes (and there could be other expenses or some that don't apply in this case) Salaries for the developers Cost of hardware and software to develop the game. this includes required backup Maintenance of the h\ware and software Overtime budgeting Marketing costs Distribution Costs Rent of building Now the game is finished and only sells 10,000 copies . This is obviously the money that Obsidian makes minus there Opex costs For example I imagine they will have ongoing support and patches that need to be written so salaries still need to be paid. So end of the day if enough copies don't get sold I can't imagine Obsidian doing this again. End of the day they want to create there own RPG for themselves and fans but if they don't make money from it why would anyone seriously want to spend 2 years doing it again?
  8. I think a dilapidated old pub that needs quests to renovate sounds like a good idea. I don't care much for the family element but it could a good camp to leave your equipment and swop members of the party?
  9. The development of both Wasteland 2 and Project Eternity could potentially be a paradigm shift in the way games are financed going forward. As mentioned the games should be now designed more for what fans want that actually funded the games, however there are few considerations Once the games are released there will be some very upset fans as the developers can't put in every feature that people want. So expect some raging and comments like " thats the last time I support a KS project" Publishers aren't all bad and do some good things. Like distribution, marketing and support. Also remember the days when games like BG2 used a publisher,Interplay, and the games released were still complex and entertaining Finally we still need to see that the 2 listed RPG from KS are going to be financially successful when released. For me this is the most important point, until the games are released and we see how good they are we can only assume that this type of fan funding will continue. I don't believe in a real revolution until we see the revenue generated as then other developers will follow this route
  10. Just for that I'm going to start one of my own tomorrow. Lol, that was quite funny
  11. Normally I would say debate is healthy, but we won't agree so the points raised agagainst Romance\Sex are generally the same and become repetitive.
  12. Here's the weird part: we're not trying to change your minds. In fact...this has absolutely nothing to do with "you". Excellent, then don't comment on threads that want romance\sex. You made your point perfectly clear. I appreciate the input.
  13. If that's the way you feel, why are you even posting in this forum? Virtually this entire place is devoted to people asking the devs to include stuff they care about in the game. It's also dedicated to having discussions and giving feedback on what we don't want. Romances in video games are terrible and are never done well. They aren't needed for a good story. That's just crazy talk. And I'm not sure why we have another one of these threads when one was closed yesterday. Heres the weird part, you won't change our minds about Romance\Sex in the game yet you continue to comment against what we want? Why don't you start a thread entitled " I don't want Romance\Sex" and then you can debate all the reasons you don't want relationships in the game until the cows come home. I promise not to comment in your thread. I am not trying to offend you but we have reached an impasse as you pointed out so lets leave each others views alone.
  14. It's Jim Sterling. What'd you expect? I have no clue who that is. He is one of the contributing editors at Destructoid and writes "news" articles and gaming reviews. I don't like him as he manipulates gamers by raging and then exaggerating issues that he knows gamers are passionate about. He does have certain fans though
  15. Yes please, I voted for Undead in tombs and crypts. I consider Undead part of all good fantasy settings, so why not?
  16. I can't see how this would happen unless the developers choose to sell there IP and then its there choice. Up to now most developers had to use Publishers due to limited funds. But they did agree to this, it wasn't like they were forced. Yes its not right but it was the way the world worked... until now. KS can permanently change this type of financial model and if Wasteland 2 and Project Eternity are financially successful then I predict we will see a paradigm shift around the way the games are produced.
  17. I don't particularly like Jim Sterling, he is a master of theatrics and a populist when it comes to his rants to gamers. He knows how to get gamers riled up and supportive of his articles. I remember his diatribe about Pirating, it ended with him saying something similar to "f**k all publishers and if you can Pirate then you should" Anyway whatever Publisher tried to do this is very disingenuous but it wouldn't be someone as large as EA or Atari. They have lots of money to fund games. Its probably one of the smaller ones
  18. You are, of course, free to believe what you like but I'd be willing to wager most people with healthy social lives do not post on videogame message boards asking for the inclusion of romances. This topic never even occurred to me until other people started to post here about the subject. Huh? What you saying makes no sense and you can't produce any evidence to suggest that people, like me, who want relationships in a game ask for them because they are socially inadequate in RL. Seriously lad, you are making massive assumptions?
  19. Just for the record if there are straight relationships why can't there be gay relationships? You don't need to pursue them but the option is there.
  20. I want to play AP, I have played NWN2 and F:NV and loved them both You mentioned its dirt cheap. Where can I buy it, on Steam? It's $20 on steam right now, but it's been as low as $2 in steam sales. Excellent, thanks. I'll buy it tonight Update : The purchase is done, once I install it I'll go the AP forums to say hi.
  21. I agree, I thought both NWN1&2 were excellent and offered many hours of good, fantasy RPG entertainment. Sometimes I think people expect too much from games, they want inspiration. Instead of settling for good fun.
  22. Wow, how was Ultima IV? I have always said I wanted to play the Ultima games but I am grappling with the outdated visuals, of course graphics aren't everything and I have played games from 1999 that were excellent. I know you can get some fan recreation of the games from about Ultima V but I can't quite get into the older Ultima series.
  23. I want to play AP, I have played NWN2 and F:NV and loved them both You mentioned its dirt cheap. Where can I buy it, on Steam?
  24. Yeah it is good news indeed. I wonder if this game was the quickest game ever to reach its minimum funding?
