  1. If you enjoyed DA2 it puts you squarely in the "should be culled to prevent breading" group. Gotta be careful with all those bakers around, never know what they'll be cooking up next. Come now lets not be pedantic, we all know he meant "breeding"
  2. I definitely support the idea of more intelligent undead in some cases and a variation of undead, good idea.
  3. Hi Op I appreciate the effort and time you into this post. I enjoyed both DA1&2, and I like the option of Romance/Sex in games like BG2 and the DA series. I want Romance in PE. But my favorite RPG is and was BG2. I can clearly see that the later RPG are "dumbed down" versions of classics like BG, IWD and others I am supporting PE because I want the gaming experience of classic RPG. Where does this put me in grouping?
  4. http://www.rageexpo.co.za/ This weekend I'll be attending the Rage computer expo, its always fun
  5. They've admitted the plane crashed in Syrian waters and their story really doesn't make any sense- as if their plane was in international airspace and heading away there is no likely way it could crash in Syrian waters; physics/ inertia and avoidance tactics say that it should only get further away from Syria, not closer. There've also been media reports in Turkey suggesting that the turkish military is incorrect in its version. The Syrians claim they shot it down with AAA, ie basically a very big machine gun, and a short range weapon. That would actually fit where the plane was found better than Turkey's version, and give a reason why they fired (ie it was so close as to be considered an imminent threat). Okay I see your point. But Turkey is still maintaining that the place was shot down in international waters according to both these articles. Anyway I still side with Turkey on this as I consider the shooting down of the place as both unnecessary and provocative
  6. Please do I always enjoy reading about global food recipes and what I can then make at home myself.
  7. I would say there is a huge difference in the two around foreign policy, but to be realistic we only have Romney's words about foreign policy and not his actual decisions Obama has been more diplomatic and much less belligerent, and arrogant, when it comes to dealing with overseas areas of potential crisis. For example he doesn't come across like the Bush and Chaney era of American politics where the message was " you are either with us or against us For example he accepted that the Russians didn't want the missile defense system should be on there border and backed down He resisted Republican calls to invade Libya and Syria, despite being told he wasn't supporting legitimate newly founded Democracies" (the Libyan air strikes don't count as an invasion) He got the troops out of Iraq and has set a deadline for an Afghanistan pullout. He has resisted Israeli pressure to agree that if Iran crosses a line with there nuclear development then there will be military intervention. He genuinely seems to believe that sanctions and increased diplomatic pressure will force the Iranians to stop enriching Uranium There are other points I can make but I think you get the message. Romney has said that Obama was weak with dealing with Russia and that Obama betrayed allies like Poland by not building the missile defense system. He is dismissive of Russia, and I think thats a mistake Has been much more supportive of Israel around the military solution to the Iranian crisis Doesn't believe that America should apologize for any decisions or actions , for example that absurd movie that was made about Islam recently. Obama seems fine to apologize if he feels the USA is wrong about certain things, I don't see whats wrong with humility Romney espouses the general Republican view on foreign policy which assumes a much more militant and unilateral perspective on dealing with overseas issues. I am simplifying this a little but I hope you get my point
  8. I suspect that the Turkish ambassador might be a bit biased. Would have had more credibility if it had come from the Syrian ambassador For all their posturing, the Turkish military had trouble explaining why the wreckage was found in Syrian waters. I hear you, another issue I have with the Syrians shooting down the Turkish plane is why be so provocative? There have been many cases in history where planes have strayed into the territory of other nations and those planes were not shot down. So what games are the Syrians playing that they are prepared to risk war with Turkey, yet they are quick to apologize and say it won't happen again?
  9. I have just finished Max Payne 3 and I intend to now start playing Risen 2, I have read mixed reviews about it but I love my fantasy RPG
  10. The Turkish plane was within Syrian air space and thus fair game, despite all the obfuscation and posturing associated with the event. That was tacitly admitted when the Turks found the plane within Syrian territorial waters, though that particular fact never really got reported much, for some reason. This point is in contention. Please provide the link where Turkey admits the plane was in Syrian territory, even yesterday the Turkish ambassador to the UK mentioned that Syrians unlawfully shot down a Turkish plane?
  11. I agree it didn't go that well but how relevant are these debates to overall voting numbers, it has re-energized Romney's campaign but after the "47%" gaff his campaign can surly only improve? ( Okay I'm being petulant) But I do think Obama will dominate any foreign ppolicy discussion, I know thats not a key issues at the moment but Romney really seems to fall short on understanding America's role in a new world.
  12. I think drinking and the effects of being inebriated should be part of the game, I have played games where when you drink there are visual side-effects. Its just a fun feature.
  13. I see that Syria has now apologized for this accidental attack. This should defuse the tension, I wonder if Turkey will accept it ?
  14. Not at all, its about time that another country intervened militarily against Assad and his brutal clampdown against the Syrian rebels . Unfortunately the likes of the USA and Britain can't act because Russia and China keep vetoing any military action in there role as permanent members of the UN Security council. But if Syria keeps on attacking Turkey by accident, this is the second time as a Turkish plane was shot down few weeks ago , then Turkey will act and they will be justified as the question is "how long does a country keep allowing "accidental " aggression against itself " This won't be a huge conflict as there is no way China or Russia would send troops to assist Syria as the Turkish actions would be justified . You already have a support from several countries aiding the Syrian rebels by sending supplies. The only intervention we won't see is UN endorsed actions due to reason I mentioned. So you won't see another Libya conflict or some kind of "no-fly" zone enforced by certain member states
  15. The console game itself can be as complex as a PC game, it's really the input device that cause issues (and sometimes the smaller amount of RAM too but that's irrelevant for a low tech game like Project Eternity). If it was common to use keyboard and mouse on the console, then this problem wouldn't exist. And actually, the PS3 do support mouse and keyboard, but the only game I know of that actually use that support is Unreal Tournement 3. So it's up to the developers to implent it. But then you stumble into another problem of requiring extra hardware to run the game on console because they only have a controller which doesn't work. Few PS3 users would be happy buying a game they can't play without buying extra hardware. And related to this Kickstarter, there's the additional fees that Sony require for a game to be published on PSN, which makes it a more expensive platform to develop for than PC which is not a good thing for a low-budget project like this. Anyway, regarding the input complexity, with the PC you have a lot of keys to work with, hotkeys and whatnot, but with the consoles you only have relatively few keys which can be limiting to some game genres. With the rise of the multiplatform gaming with the arrive of the original Xbox about a decade ago, the genres really been streamlined and had their controls simplified, to be used with only a few keys and not very precise controls. The controller input affect more things than just the controls though, it affects the user interface of the whole game. In a game that have an inventory screen that designed to be used with a mouse tend to show more information on the screen at the same time where the player just can point and click, while controller inventory screens are more about having long lists and tabs. The console user interface often also show less information because the text is larger (because people sit far from the TV) This change is especially noticeable with the flight simulator genre, which pretty much died as a result. There were a lot of them back in the 90s, and many of them used pretty much the whole keyboard to function. Now in this age of multiplatform gaming it's been a long time since we last saw a flight simulator, and those flight games that do appear are much more actiony and not nearly complex controls as a simulator should have (there are lots of different keys inside a real plane). But it's noticeable in other genres as well, including the popular shooters. In many shooters there is now auto-aim to assist the player to more easily hit the enemy (if the aim is very close to the enemy but not quite targetting the enemy, it's still a generous hit), and the enemies in the games usually react a bit slower than they used to too, so the player have enough time to change the aim with the thumb stick. And then there's the strategy/RPG genre, where you have a top-down view and easily control multiple characters/units on the map with the mouse, use a bunch of hot keys to quickly issue commands and so forth, there's a whole different level of player efficiency. And yet, despite all this, BG1 was (but never finished but I would speculate it was cancelled for other reasons than the controls). And soon it's released for the iPad which have no mouse or keyboard either. So, umm, anything is possible with additional hard work, I suppose. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Project Eternity some time in the future being ported to other platforms if the PC version is a success. But only then, now they are busy enough to make the game for the PC and won't spread their focus elsewhere. And if the game is later ported to non-keyboard platforms, then they will need to do a lot of extra work as well, to redesign and streamline the controls and UI for a different input device. Uhhh, this turned out to be a lot larger than I expected Thanks Freddo, your post was another excellent and insightful response to why Console games are not as complex as standard PC games. I have learnt a lot from yours and Althernai posts
  16. Its got to do with several things and Turkeys interest in going after Kurdish separatists is part of it but its small part. In my opinion Turkey is concerned with the 50000 Syrian refugees that are now living within Turkey. With Assad gone they can return home, these refugees are both a political and financial strain on Turkey Turkey does feel a moral responsibility to how Assad has been treating his own people. This is something we should be supporting and welcoming. Its not often that countries outside of the usual suspects(USA, Britain , France for example) are prepared to militarily intervene in an internal conflict. They also have support from NATO Finally Turkey truly is a rising power in the region both economically and politically. This is about there hegemony and influence in the area and showing the world that they can intervene where another government is clearly doing something wrong. I firmly believe that there is a real case for regime change throughout the world where governments are just despots or are prepared to use the might of there own military to suppress there own citizens political protests. Of course it needs to be done correctly with the right intention. Iraq was an example of how it mustn't be done, and Libya is an example of how it can be done
  17. Personally I think this is a ridiculously strict penalty for a minor offense. But Muslim countries are very strict on drug related offenses. I travel to the Middle East for work regularly and there in most countries if you get caught bringing drugs into the country you could face the death penalty. So you could argue the teenager got off easy Well take it from somebody whose (geographically) closest neighbour is Indonesia: Indonesia is not so much a Muslim country (although it is the most populous one in the world) as it is an Asian country, and Asian countries hate drugs. Stupid, but that's how it is. They don't even drink much alcohol (so hey, at least they're consistent in they're vilification of drugs, unlike Western countries). I just thought that it was worth pointing out that Indonesia's drug laws come more from that influence, although this century it is true that fundamentalist Islamic culture (mostly funded by extremists in Saudi Arabia) has tried to exert more sway in Indonesia on things like alcohol and porn. There's a big liberal pushback against that sort of restrictive socially conservative ****, too, though. And the people pushing back are Muslims themselves (hard not to be in a 90% Muslim country). It's the same story as in Turkey. Liberal Muslims vs extremist Muslims. It's the same story in the United States, too. Liberal Christians (Democrats) vs extremist Christians (Republicans). The world moves forward. One day we will be rid of the current batch of bat**** social conservatives (even in Asia and the Mid East) as the younger generations replace them. I know that at least in Australia, conservatives my age are pretty okay with gay marriage and they want to solve and prevent global warming. They're also pretty lax about religion (at least by US standards - I still consider them pretty non-secular and extreme). You have raised some good points about the Philippines and where there conservative values come from. There is a huge difference between liberal and conservative Muslim countries so I understand what you are saying.
  18. The control interface can't handle it. Consoles lack fast and precise point-and-click functionality and they have fewer hot key possibilities. Think about it this way: BG2 has 6 party members each of which has on the order of 10 (it's more, but let's keep it simple) actions which can be accessed almost instantaneously via either a button to click on or a keyboard shortcut. This makes for around 60 things that a PC player can do in approximately 1 second after having decided to do it. How would you do the same thing on a console? First, we must select the character. I suppose you could use one of the sticks as a pointing device and a button to click, but I suspect this would be extremely awkward because I have not seen it implemented in any game I have played. Instead, the most common mechanism tends to be to cycle through the player characters. Having done that, we need to select the action. Again, I have not seen an RPG that offers of order 10 hotkeys which means you must typically go through a menu. Menu access is slower than on the PC because instead of point-and-click, it involves traversing an ordered list. Thus, an action that took of order 1 second on the PC takes of order 10 seconds on the console. And this is something that a player will be doing very, very often. Here is another example: imagine positioning multiple characters on the PC. Click on a character, click where the character goes, repeat. Again, it's something that takes of order 1 second per character so 1-6 seconds total. On consoles, it does not appear to be done at all (at least not in any game I have played on an XBox) because now you really must use the sticks as precision pointing devices and this is not pleasant. Thanks Althernai, that was a comprehensive and informative response. It makes sense
  19. Relax, you dont like it, dont post in it. Follow basic courtesy rules, my man. Its just a discussion. I've pledged and am fully supporting and backing this venture as a PC game, nothing more or less. Its all "what-ifs". Chill. All well and good. Why not think about Obsidian's feelings on this (interview)? So why not? There are a lot of reasons not to. And because they don't want to do it. This for me is the most salient and relevant point for why the majority of people don't want PE on the console. It will lead to a "dumbed down" version of the game. It will still be entertaining, like DA, but it won't offer the complexity of games like BG and Planescape. I have always believed this and now Chris Avellone has confirmed the impact a console version will have. But I would still like someone who really understands the technical mechanics to explain why a console version of any game is generally not as complex as the PC game. I have heard many theories and speculation but based on Chris comments above, why can't you have a BG2 on console?
  20. Yeah, I almost think I see what the poll was getting at, but there's no accurate way to answer it. OP should fix the poll. Shame I feel sorry for the Op because his intentions were good. But I won't vote on this type of question until this poll is fixed or someone else creates a working one
  21. Seriously, that sounds disgusting. Translation of the recipe: Mix fat, with fat, fat and fat. Fry the fat in fat. + Season with lots of stuff. Put on bread and add fat Eat. Proceed to die of fat overdose. It may be a little unhealthy but it does sounds tasty, and if you ate it twice a month you will be fine. Consider it an indulgent treat, a bit like an Eisbein
  22. Personally I think this is a ridiculously strict penalty for a minor offense. But Muslim countries are very strict on drug related offenses. I travel to the Middle East for work regularly and there in most countries if you get caught bringing drugs into the country you could face the death penalty. 23. I don't think that the IMF should be blamed at all, I live in a country that has high unemployment and poverty worse than any of the EU countries going through austerity and people like me survive and thrive fine. I will say that most of you Europeans are very good at complaining and arranging government protests. But the reality is that almost all the financial woes that Europe is going through are self inflicted. Bad government policies, inept tax collection and the spiraling credit card debts are to blame. Yes austerity and financial sacrifice is the path certain countries now have to follow. Lets stop blaming countries like Germany, who have managed there economies well, for the changes that need to be made
  24. Hi All We all love food. I enjoy cooking and I am constantly looking for tasty but easy to prepare recipes and snacks. So I thought a thread that discusses this would be appropriate to share some of our universal and gastronomic ideas. We need some rules, so please include all ingredients and cooking instructions. Finally try to keep it simple as a complex recipe may just be daunting for some. Eggy Toasted Sandwich Ingredients 1. 2 pieces bread per sandwich 2. 2 x Eggs and Milk 3. Whatever ingredients you like on your sandwich (some cheese should be a must) Cooking Instructions 1.Beat the eggs in a bowl and add 2 Tablespoons milk. Season appropriately 2.Make the sandwich with your ingredients 3.Dip both sides of the sandwich into the egg mixture so it is coated thoroughly ( The sandwich may break up a little due to the liquid but this is fine) 4.Heat a frying pan until hot 5. Cook both sides of the sandwich until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side (don't burn) 6. The result should be a rich and delicious toasted sandwich that when cut open the cheese oozes out Post your snack recipes
  25. Gorth you are just bitter because the Op doesn't consider Australia worthy of contributing towards this project. Don't worry one day Australia will be "enlightened and experience the glory of the American cRPG "
