  1. I have just finished Alan Wake and I thoroughly enjoyed it, a solid 78/100 The game captures very well this eerie mystery where you are part of this narrative that your character creates. You need to find your wife in this town beset by a supernatural force. Similar to a Call of Cthulhu entity. I found the game very hard to stop once you start playing, and that always a good sign
  2. Good idea, it might be interesting to have some intelligence with this creature. Like a Treant
  3. I also didn't think it was spam, but I suppose it was a form of duplication of an active post?
  4. To be honest I never understand this judgment of Western countries from people living in Western countries I am going to assume you live in a Western country. Don't you believe in Democracy and things like a free press and free speech, do you believe that your government can be criticized on TV and the government doesn't have the right to enrich itself on tax payers money? Because end of the day those are some of the things that make a "Western country" as opposed to other places like China, Russia and various countries in Africa. So what exactly is wrong with Western culture and ideology in your opinion?
  5. Nice Let celebrate, where are you going to take me for dinner? I was thinking seafood. Lobster Thermidor is probably appropriate considering the fortuitous circumstances?
  6. Good points especially around the non-announced financial contributions that people make to keep there companies going.
  7. Its easy to say that yet I haven't seen any other KS project CEO agree to this. So even though you may say "they should so this " they don't do it. So lets give him credit for this?
  8. There would be, 15-25% you should see on general windows functions and it would become particularly noticeable with any disk extensive application. Like a database and its transaction logs
  9. I agree with you but having 6 races is more applicable to the PE type RPG than Torment. So I would want that from PE
  10. Probably the best way to think of it is that they have intrinsic value, rather than just face value. Currency, shares and the like are, in practice, dependent entirely on people having confidence in them and if the confidence drops their value drops, and if it drops too much their value is zero. The value of commodities is at least partly independent as, for example, people may not need Apple, but they do need to eat. Precious metals are a little different from that as their intrinsic value is based upon them being valuable since time immemoriable even prior to real currency, not on their need to be used. They tend to go up in price in low confidence times because people are hedging against problems getting worse, eg at present the US stock market is inflated because money is very cheap to borrow, but that money is cheap due to (effectively) running money off the presses and it is quite likely that the current boom is a bubble rather than sustainable growth. If the company you have bought shares in goes bye bye so has your money, if you've bought corn or milk or iron ingots or gold those are not going to disappear- or at least the circumstances under which they would are ones where investments are likely to be the least of your worries. For a hick New Zealander( )you seem to really have a good grasp and general knowledge around economics What do you do for living if you don't mind me asking?
  11. It does cut off at 2 million, so the max he'll pledge is $100K, which is a very significant sum even for a pretty affluent man like him, but he really wanted to put his money where his mouth is. Thanks for all the support guys! Okay that makes sense, and its reasonable. I respect him even more for just agreeing to contribute his own money
  12. Something else to be aware of. Brian Fargo agreed to pledge 10 % of everything over $1 million So he is already in for $46 k I wonder if he is nervous about what his final pledge is going to be? I doubt it as I am sure he can afford it.
  13. Very informative article I particularly like the fact they mention that this doesn't necessarily mean its the end of games in the Witcher universe
  14. Thats interesting, do you mean the new combat moves or the old combat moves? I completed Zodiac without collecting any new moves but I did learn almost all the old strategies and I became very proficient in using them. I use to practice at all the street fights. You make good money by winning those
  15. Also the one tier is $15 more expensive, thats another difference?
  16. Wow guys, there have been some very generous donations from this website IMO. Nice one
  17. What unique perspective are you guys talking about?
  18. None whatsoever. This is a principle reason why I want this game to be awesome. The bigger publishers don't do it because of the perception that the opportunity cost is too high. If they are successful, it'll help spur a resurgence across the board. This is a real sign of the relevance and appetite from gamers for these types of games. Its amazing really, if I was a big publisher I would be thinking "they raised 900k in 8 hours for a PC based isometric game. Surly this is something we can also invest in? It only bodes well for the future of PC gaming. Of course we still need to play the first of these KS RPG. And that would be Wasteland 2. For me the success and enjoyment of that game will be the real litmus test for the sustainability of this type of funding.
  19. I cannot believe the speed it reached its goal, I have never seen a game get funded so quickly ?
  20. I have been following this story. Hugo Chavez was a bit of a mixed bag from a good leadership perspective. There was no doubt he did a lot of good to uplift the poor people in his country and ensure the middle class got a good deal. But he was vociferously anti-western and didn't allow any fair political contestation in his country. He controlled the press and what his citizens really knew about the state of the Venezuelan conomy. He had no issues with aligning imself with anyone opposed to Western countries like North Korea. But he definitely had an entertaining and flamboyant personality. Who remembers the one time at the UN when he accused George Bush of being the Devil and leaving behind the smell of sulfur ( it was embarrasing but funny the way he said it) I recommend watching the documentary 'This Revolution Will Not Be Televised'. The raw footage of the puppet government that was put in place for a little while during the coup, and the footage of the 'free' (foreign owned) press that backed that coup speaks volumes. Okay I'll watch it, I always like to see a different perspective.
  21. Hi Nep Good to see you back
  22. You need to play Planescape, I only played it for the first time about 6 weeks ago. Its brilliant, for me BG2 is still better but Planescape offers an amazing and different RPG experience
  23. I expect it will beat Project: Eternity as it has a stronger name behind it. Sorry Alan but you can't claim to want to support this project now or say you "knew" it would succeed. We all know how critical you were about it in its marketing and pitching stage Errr, WHAT? I disliked it's usage of the name Torment, but I never once said it wouldn't succeed. Furthermore, no where in my post did I say "I want to support this project." Although I did earlier in the thread talk about how there's a good chance I'll contribute because I'll likely have to see how well it compares to the Torment name. In fact, I thought I was pretty open about how the usage of the name Torment would garner them more funding than otherwise. That, combined with the higher expectations that come with using the name, formed the crux of my reservation for using the name. In fact, looking at the webpage I still don't agree that a game must be a Torment game in order to have a deep, thematically engaging story, a world unlike any other, a rich, personal narrative, nor reactivity, choice, and real consequences. I hope inXile feels the same way. I straight up told Brother None that I hope the game knocks it out of the park and is awesome (since more awesome games is never bad). It's just huge shoes to step into to state that you're picking up Torment's legacy. With that expectation comes greater risk. Hopefully the greater funding will mitigate that. Okay, okay you are right (geez remind me the next time I want to accuse you of something you didn't say ) You did want this project to succeed..yaaaaaaaaaaay
  24. Very well done. Can't wait to hear more and see stretch goals. What amazing is hitting the refresh and seeing the pledge number increase, its like being part of live history
  25. I expect it will beat Project: Eternity as it has a stronger name behind it. Sorry Alan but you can't claim to want to support this project now or say you "knew" it would succeed. We all know how critical you were about it in its marketing and pitching stage
