I have no idea what you are talking about. These are both the same issue, and they're both a travesty. To me, you're repeating the issue twice and assigning it to two of the characters. That's not "all over the place", that's as consistent as can be. The changes to Durance is good, from a min/max perspective, but still terrible that they feel that it had to be done at all, and it's still terrible because it screws with the character. The changes to Edèr are terrible not just because it shouldn't be necessary, and not just because it screws with the character, but also because it's actually a pretty bad change. There are many layers to this level of incompetence. This isn't your average stupid. This is advanced stupid.

My guess: an issue with the hotfix. Also, Bester, I know we all share a common hatred for the Memorials, but is there any chance you could restore the deleted/changed Memorial as a core part of the mod? The tears of insane SJW everywere that just can't possibly use the mod when it includes such "transphobia" would nourish all thinking people everywhere, I think. Is this something people are actually complaining about? The fact that Obsidian caved to the demands of a small sect of Twitter lunatics playing the "I'm offended"-game, and removed one of the single few memorial notes that weren't objectively horrific, and which a backer invested $500 USD in the game for? Yeah, you might say that people are a tad upset over that issue.

Most enjoyable companions?
Luckmann replied to sffrrrom's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Edér, Durance, and Grieving Mother, easily. The writing is terrific and they feel like genuine people, and aren't based around some singular issue. I also enjoy Hiravias and I'm not hating Kana Rua half as much as I thought. But really, Edér, Durance and Grieving Mother (in no particular order) are easily my most enjoyable companions. Organic, living individuals without some awkward point to prove. Chris Avellone really needs to write more characters, or, hell, just write more everything. If I could switch out the Lead from Sawyer to Avellone, I'd do it in a heartbeat, without even considering other far-reaching effects of that decision. And I really hope Eric Fenstermaker gets a chance to write more characters. Can't say I've heard much of him before (whereas I was more or less already a fan of Avellone) but he's really good. Any way to...

Why would you play without the IE mod installed? That's just.. weird. I agree that in the base game, the fact that the nametabs show up for pets is annoying (but not nearly as annoying as the fact that the nametabs look awful if you adjust the font sizes; I reported it as a bug during the backer beta, but nothing was done). But with the IE mod, the excessive tabs disappear completely. -

Limerick edit thread
Luckmann replied to Divinehammer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If this is true, I will do my best - however small of an effect that will have - to undermine everything Obsidian does, forever, at least financially. Because this is just unacceptable on so many different levels it's crazy. Caving to the frivolous demands of lunatics that have turned the act of being offended into a for-profit artform is just.. wow. Not only was there nothing remotely offensive with it, and not only were the accusations levvied by complete and utter lunatics without even a peg-leg to stand on, and not only was it unacceptable to remove it after someone paid $500 for it, but it was genuinely one of the more appropriate memorials by far. In a sea of piss and vomit, it stood out as a funny quib that'd fit on any tombstone of old. I hate the memorials, I really do, but if they were to be removed, it would be for the betterment of the game. This has nothing to do with making the game better. This has to do with insane people with insane agendas, pushing their insanity onto others.- 636 replies

Maybe earlier in development. Now that the game is out and people have already made characters, changing them would harm a lot of players. So actually I think it's the right decision to just change their stats. Doesn't matter. I would rather have a savegame mildly screwed with than to have something broken be broken forever. I am not surprised at all, because I have already said that I would be very surprised (pleasantly) if Obsidian dared to actually keep working on the game and the Attributes post-release, despite potential backlash from nooblets, but it doesn't make it any less sad to see them taking the easy coward's way out, instead of continuing iterative improvement. Furthermore, the glaring Attribute issues were pointed out as far back as BBv435, when the current setup was introduced. They should've been fixed then and there. The reaction now when the masses have showed up and weighted in on the quite obvious issues present is quite frankly bad, and nothing short of caving to mob rule.

Not only is it terrible to see them change the Companions rather than fixing the Attribute issues (and thus screwing with the character concepts) but this is pretty far from a "excellent change for a fighter". Fighters actually benefit greatly from Intellect (...who doesn't?). If Edér is intended as a Tank (and face it, he is; it's the only reason he's a Fighter and not a Rogue) he would have been better served to lose Might or Constitution. So not only do they not fix the Attributes, and not only do they instead opt to change the characters' character, but the changes aren't even good. It's like compound incompetence, with interest. Seriously, what the hell? Edit: Why is Intellect good for Fighters, you ask? Duration. That's why. Duration of Knockdowns and virtually all Fighter abilities.

Durance too. They were pretty mild with it though. Aloth lost some Per and gained some Dex but still has a whopping 12 Mig Eder just got -3 int which went into Per/Res Durance got a couple points moved from Con into Int, still has 19 Res Talents don't seem to've changed. From the look of it none of them are PotD worthy for me, unfortunately. Wow, so they did the complete opposite of what they should've done. Instead of fixing the Attributes, they decided to screw around with the character/thematic-based Attributes the CNPC:s had. That's just... ****ing sad to see. I was really hoping for better from Obsidian.

Is there no way to make the game load .cs files outside of the .dll? Because if not, that's a serious bummer when it comes to mod compatibilities, requiring you to extract and recompile for each mod individually.

Map Notes
Luckmann replied to cealicu_ca's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Holy **** this one one hell of a necro. From 2012 straight into 2015. Guess I was wrong, eh? I still think it's really out of place that the game doesn't have custom map notes. I'm also extremely annoyed at the immersion-breaking spoilerific map-notes that are already in the game. It's alright to note landmarks. To note "This is Gandalf's home, this exact one here, you haven't met him yet and he's not home, but this is his apartment!" or "GRIEVING MOTHER IS HERE! RIGHT HERE! THIS ONE PLACE REQUIRES YOUR NOTICE FOR SOME REASON DON'T MISS IT!" feels incredibly out of place. -
Patch notes for 1.03
Luckmann replied to Sleazebag's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Holy. S***. That's some... tuning. I haven't really been using Arbalests pre-nerf, to be perfectly honest, so I'm not sure if that was warrented or not, but damn that looks like someone was brutally savaged by the nerfbat. -
While yes, us GOG-users chose GOG for a reason, I don't think that reason was "I enjoy late patching". I support GOG with a vengeance and hate DRM with an undying passion, but let's not pretend it doesn't come with issues, m'kay? We accept those issues, but it is entirely alright to feel sorry for us based on it. I don't regret getting it on GOG, but even I feel sorry for us in this.

Patch notes for 1.03
Luckmann replied to Sleazebag's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There is logic behind this. The game is not able to save buff/de-buff effects. Allowing pre-buffing would simply break save/loading functions. Why do you think temporary weapons which was still in inventory outside combat was breaking the game? When you save game while the temporary weapon/ buff/ de-buff is still there -> Breaks save files. The fixes for lots of bugs are simple. Do not allow them outside combat... While this is arguably true for some things, it's patently false in many. Not only does the game appear to save buff/debuff effects fine, but in many cases the restriction to Combat Only appears completely arbitrary. For example, Zealous Focus is not Combat Only, but Zealous Charge is. Why? Because of save game limitations? Lolno. The experience bonus. -
While we're on the issue, I must say that it's frustrating as all hell to not be able to remove Enchantments. I'd love to retool one of my rapiers, but I can't. One needs to be ridiculously careful with what/how you enchant your weapons & armour. Also, yeah, the selection is limited and it all feels very meh. Yeah, Enchanting is important, it feels important, it has an impact, but it just feels unfulfilling and unengaging in actual play, I think. Also, I'm sad that the only things you can Enchant is Armour and Weapons. Not even cloaks or helmets.

I had no idea that GoG would take an extra half a week to deliver the patch. How would I have known?Because it always happens with GOG? If it's your first new game from them, then I sympathize. I have it on GOG and I don't feel bad, this is exactly what I expected and agreed to. I'm more surprised to see someone actually bought Pillars on Origin. I bought Witcher 2 on GOG a few years ago and didn't have to wait weeks for a patch, CDP released that on their website for everyone to download. I preordered TW3 on GOG for that reason and don't expect any patch delays either. People are "butthurt" because these days you just get shafted when you decide to support devs by buying their product. Buggy, unfinished releases, followed by weeks and months of paid beta. Meanwhile pirates are laughing their asses off and are no doubt already enjoying the patched game. There's a reason for that; GOG and the developers of The Witcher belong to the same company; CD Projekt. The Witcher patches will never be delayed on GOG, because they aren't released until they have gone through the GOG process to begin with. It's the default vendor platform for The Witcher. So.. yeah, that's why your limited experience does not match with everyone elses. The issue simply do not apply to The Witcher.

From what I understand, GOG often gets patches as fast as Valve does. They just take time to test it out with their installer to make sure it works. And Origin? Believe it or not, for my purposes, I like it better than Steam. This is true, the "problem" is entirely on GOG:s end. They need to streamline the patching process, it's not made for recently released/currently patched games, and that's why they are having issues. Which is all kinds of annoying, and something they should work on.

Patch 1.03 is Live on Steam
Luckmann replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
What does that mean, Steam doesn't test patches before releasing them? No. -
Lol, Origin. Anyway, I'm a big supporter of GOG, that's no secret at all. But they really, really need to work on their patching process. That's just how it is. I also think it's annoying as hell that Obsidian/Paradox just defaults to Steam, without considering GOG or similar, but at the same time, it's somewhat understandable, considering that GOG does have this reputation of being slow as hell with redistribution compared to Steam. But yeah. Lol, Origin.

Are those the final patch notes, then? Just making sure. Also, thanks for pushing this out before the weekend, to give people a chance to fix it before I come home.
