Yes, indeed, I like Ranger and his bonuses but I "hate" pet. I don't like having pet aside me whole time. It is not for power playing reason but I don't wanna manage with Bonded Grief, I don't wanna spend point in animal abilities, I don't care about reviving pet (re-summon is just good enough), I rely on almost only ranger passives so summon pet is not a problem and (since I'm playing SOLO) in some areas I wanna use stealth mode without pet's hindrance. Furthermore it is a RPG choise: my PG conjure dead ancestors (animated weapons, ghosts and so on) for her (she is a lady) battles and her dead beloved bear, all slaughtered when she was very young. I summon pet sometimes (indeed often) at the start of fights waiting for chanter summons; I like that style of playing and I am comfortable with it Edit: And I forget, some abilities and equip abilities are more easily usable without having companions/pet (pure SOLO).

Hi, mine is a Ghost Heart / Beckoner, I'm playing SOLO PotD and so I maxed INT, PER and DEX, MIG and CON about 8/9 and RES 5/6. Max INT just for summon duration, DEX because I want a quick character and it balances out poor MIG for DPS, my tactics is summon creatures/pet, repair behind them and shot as quick as I Can, with all RANGER bonus (see Boeroer post) and Sure-Handed Ila. Best Arquebus I have found to work is just The Red Hand It seems to work, I have completed all content except The Forgotten Sanctum and mega bosses

Hi, I don't know if it is the best build/combo for an arquebus, but I'm liking Red Hand with Guilty Conscience full stacked on a Wildrhymer (Ranger\Chanter) with all bonuses you have listed

Yes, and it is a good way to eliminate some crew members 😄 I think there's no reason to do it (you can park them in the specific slots in ship GUI) but if you wanna lost one of it definitely... well, you can!

What is the best class for scrolls?
I think a ranger (for ACC bonus) with a class with good hit to crit conversion (rogue? wiz?) is a good combo. Ranger abilities works well with ranged ACC and most spell/scroll are ranged attacks, so... Hit to crit conversion is very good for AeO scrolls, missiles like spells with more attacks and repetitive damage (i.e. Storm of Holy Fire).

Just wondering, how often do you get the three +10 defense passive abilities?
I take them almost never. Fortitude is the best usually, as just said. In solo it depends by the enemies you fight, i.e.: if they dominate, will, if they paralyze, reflex, if they stun then fortitude. But I end taking attack abilities 99% of times and skip them.

If you play with a mod that fix RoS, Berath is very good. But for a forbidden fist I think Wael fits better

But if you are a Priest with SoT and you can prolong BC, then is better use Scrodeo's Edge with one hand The rest you say is totally right.

Against single enemy a cipher: buff her/himself debuff enemy spam paralysis do damage with weapons AND on top you have disint. Do you wanna also another spell for single enemy? 🤨

Do1000C is a 9 level ability, it should be better than how is now, I think a solution is to have it working with all shred spells, also DoT and Reaping Knives and maybe drop the duration extension on damage. Or drop its own DoT effect and keep duration extension with shred spells/RK on damage.

To good to be real, I knew it Especially in SOLO Deathof1000c lose too much versus one lonely boss cause you can cast Antipathetic Field. Wondering if some mods balance this ability in some manner.

I think other shred spell can be good with Death of 1000 cuts: disintegration, recall agony, soul ignition, pain link and reaping knives (especially this one imho). Does DoT trigger Do1000C?

Great research lewis_cb, from what you've discovered I guess there can be some bugs in how flanked, affliction and other status are counted and above all how the engine treat their status changes.

You're, you knows it later. But Stalwart ask you for help, it stands to you if accept or not. It is a RPG choice, but if you don't know what are the problems, how can you tell if they can be an issue for Caed Nua? Perhaps it's better to take a look, and if you go there you see an Ogre's attack and you'll be aware there are weird troops movements from Readcerans... But this is the "weaker" part, you can go to Stalwart, free it from Ogres and you're done, ot let them just make do. I think WMII patch that up with Abidon's question and so on. Mmm, yes and no. They attack you on sight after a first warn, if I had a castle near a heavy armored troop with warring attitude maybe I'd be worried... Anyway, you're right there are not so "strong" reasons to do WM. But from a RPG perspective some characters can have right motives to do it, on the other hand. The real problem is that your character doesn't know how quickly the main quest evolves, but you as a player know you have plenty of time to do it... usual crpg issue 🤷♂️

Oh, yes, but you could do the white march to prevent an Eyeless invasion For Crägholdt issue, you have to avoid troubles for Caed Nua.

Yes, indeed 👍 Oh, I am only discussing theoretically about mob stance post of the OP, no actual real use cases I think... only professional deformation, I'm an engineer 😄 But maybe fora multiclass Fighter / "another class with those abilities" it may work

Thanks Boeroer, I've found here https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Combat_(Deadfire)?so=search#Threat this extract: Threat A character is threatened when they have been targeted by another character in melee, at a range of 3.5m (plus the character's radius). This occurs immediately, and before any attacks are made. Threat is similar to engagement, but threat is more immediate and is dropped as soon as either character moves, or otherwise becomes untargetable. A character may only impose threat if they can engage an enemy. If the threatening character moves, all targets are no longer threatened, even if they are still engaged. Only melee attacks within 3.5m can cause a target to be threatened. Moving, pushed back, non-hostile, invisible, stealthed, untargetable, unconscious, or dead characters cannot be threatened. So it appears as far as 3.5 meters but you need engagment slot, and not move... if you attack from 3.5 m melee, it's almost sure you're moving just after the attack... Maybe some things changed since beta or when this wiki was written, if I can i test it, but I think it's hard because there are no so many logs about threateing

Is this true also for quarterstaffs and pikes which have a greater range than others melee weapons?
