  1. Yeah...Obsidian still seems to be in the "deciding phase". Avelone took some care to neither confirm nor deny romances (His answer with "a variety of mature relationships" is most telling, imo). ...however I think this is the exact reason why the discussions about this topic are so heated. Most want them in, many want them definitely out and everyone is afraid Obsidian might listen to the other side. Errouneously imo -I don't think Obsidian will be swayed either way by forumites, on a topic like this.
  2. I guess this just shows how different PE's target audience is. None of this stuff is important to me. ...but I guess if I had to contribute with my own point: Choices. They really should matter -and there should be a lot of them.
  3. I would like romances in PE. I think there really isn't much more to say. Arguments certainly seem fall on deaf ears on both sides of this discussion (if it's even arguments that get exchanged). Obsidian should just do what they think is best and not feel pressured by either side.
  4. Funny thing is...we might even reach that goal. Never would have thought it possible.
  5. Eh ? Well this topic's been treaded over with you lot wanting romances to - I dunno, make you feel more immersed or adding depth to your character because some NPC really likes you and says sappy things - and people have made arguments against it more than your, heh, characterization of them as stomping their feet. Mainly a time/resource investment vs. the return on it (so for example, would rather them work on making a city's tale more engrossing as opposed to giving the player's ego some fluffing up). Meh, at this point though I guess they have money to spare so that fluff shouldn't hurt. They should have put it as a stretch goal and milk you lot, but too late, heh. Sigh Arguing the "needs too much resources" angle is fine and factual. Dropping empty, inciting words like "dating simulator", "Bioware romance", or "(certain) japanese games" aren't however. The constant veiled insults -all some variation of "get a life"- don't help, either...and the later seems to make up a felt 95% of all the "arguments" anti-romancers seem to be able to come up with.
  6. Perhaps you should? As far as I know they haven't announced anything of the likes and don't seem to want to or they wouldn't be avoiding the issue and all these topics or outright "banning" them from the forums for the last few weeks, yet here we have people like you crawling out of their holes from the depths of BSN every few days asking for them to implement this dating simulator experience to make you feel better and stroke your ego instead of making a better game, caring about a higher quality of writing or tackling serious societal issues instead. Uh-huh...except Avelone already made a statement on this topic, citing that there will be "a variety of mature relationships" in PE and the mods officially lifted the ban on romance threads as a result of this. All this in this very thread, which you obviously didn't bother to read...oh well, I guess the thread title alone was enough for your knee-jerk "I'm against it !!!" reaction. What a shocker. But whatever. I'm 100% sure that what we will be getting in PE will be nothing that resembles those "Bioware romances" you dread so much.
  7. Urgh, this kind of completely baseless lamenting really gets on my nerves. You know, there is still time to withdraw your pledge. Perhaps you should do that instead of rambling about "dating simulators" and "certain japanese" games.
  8. Some people aren't so bad, but then the trolls come charging out from beneath the bridge. The trolls that are challenging the moratorium on romance threads? Yeah, ****ing bastards. With Chris A's statement on the issue (and a mod in this very thread saying so) there is no moratorium anymore...though some ppl obviously work overtime to rectify that :-/
  9. ...why are those two points part of the "core mechanic", though ? They sound pretty trivial to me.
  10. One of my original suggestions was actually for interparty-non-PC romances--but with the PC playing a role in advising, basically. I think that'd be interesting, and it may have been done only once before (ME3? dunno). A party NPC and a non-party NPC would be interesting to see too and would create group tension per obligations, hmmmm. Heh, sounds good to me.
  11. Romances in PE might not even be between the PC and his/her partymembers. They might be with NPCs (which you than can ignore completely) or even not with the PC at all. Heck if you really want to split hairs "a variety of mature relationships" doesn't even necessarily mean romances.
  12. http://obsoletegamer...ainment-part-2/ This. Obsidians stance on this is not as vague as some people seem to think it is...of course now we'll get a myriad of posts crying on how Obsidian "caved in". Oh well.
  13. Monster variety ? Who cares about this stuff ? Combat is just the filler between the good stuff, anyways.
  14. Urgh...please no. A dungeon city just seems generally out of place. There would have to be a plausible reason just why there exists such a city and that probably means dwarves (boring) or drow (no license). No. Just no.
  15. Yeah, no. He has a nice voice, but I want this to be PE -not "the game that is narrated by Morgan Freeman". He's too famous for this kind of project.
  16. I think the 3 million $ goal is...quite possible. But 3.5 ?...man, that's going to be a *very* close call. Not sure it's possible :-/
  17. or the game will be zoomed in more than this screenshot True that. The screenshot might be an overall view of a complete area...with you being able to only see a fraction of that in the finished product. The water still bothers me a little, though :-/.
  18. 1. huh, the size of the avatars must be pretty tiny. Too tiny perhaps. (look at the campsite) 2. The water forms waves...but not circular around the waterfall, but linear from the top left of the screen down to the bottom right. I'm not sure why I noticed that, but it somewhat bothers me :-/ ...aaaaanyhow. It's a pretty nifty picture.
  19. They helped to make games (as in some of them, not all) that are "dear to his heart", however.
  20. Actually that game seems to be quite a rarity these days, because rights went back to Hasbro and since then it has been unavailable through all digital distributors. Few online shops still have retail copies, but prices are outrageous for 6 year-old game. It's not on Steam anymore? I bought whole NWN2 package from Steam like a year ago because I was missing SoZ. Not anymore, no. Of course if you bought it before the whole Hasbro hassle you'll still have it in your steam inventory.
  21. It certainly would help if a dev would comment on this. IWD is kind of the black sheep of the infinity engine games. Don't get me wrong -those two games were good games in and off themselves but they always felt a bit out of place with the rest of the IE games due to their linear story and combat focus. I strongly hope PE will not emulate those parts of IWD...but imo I don't think that's the case.
  22. Whatever they do they better give us choices that actually have weight. I'm currently playing The Walking Dead and after being told that my choices would be important to the plot I felt very letdown when I found out that they really don't matter at all...it's the same with the ME series from Bioware. They had a save game import and advertized that your choices would carry over from the first game and help shape the ultimate outcome of the series...which turned out to be a blatant lie. A choice that leads to the same result is no choice at all. But I'm actually a bit confident this time around. Not having most of the dialogue voiced will make things more managable for Obsidian.
  23. All I know is that if Obsidian doesn't plan to reveal a 3 million $ stretch goal by either today or tomorrow they may as well scrap this goal entirely. Time is kind of running short for such a big leap.
