Do not make the game isometric
WorstUsernameEver replied to Bercon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I doubt there will be one. What's been confirmed is that it will have pre-rendered backdrops and apparently a "new rendering method" whatever Feargus is hinting at with that. They're clearly going for an Infinity Engine-feel (they said that themselves), and honestly, Obsidian is not good at stuff like interface and camera. A fixed perspective will help them focus on better map design and more interesting environments, imo.

Do not make the game isometric
WorstUsernameEver replied to Bercon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)With the kind of budget Kickstarter allows, you won't get cinematic conversation or cutscenes anyway.. though I'd personally like to see something like the Dungeon Siege III painted cutscenes for the most important/pivotal conversations/cutscenes. Not sure how feasible it is for conversation, tho', since they have customizable characters.

Non-combat skills
Sawyer is in favor of transparency when it comes to check, iirc, so we'll most likely get something like skill/attributes tags, at the very least. Then again, who knows, maybe he's changed his mind!

Non-combat skills
It's their intention at least:

Do not make the game isometric
WorstUsernameEver replied to Bercon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)What he means to say is probably "don't use pre-rendered backdrops". It's something that leaves me a little perplexed too, in that I don't really see the appeal beyond "nostalgia!!", but I'm willing to wait until I see what Obsidian is cooking up, engine-wise.

[Update 02.10.12] Project Eternity: Known Information
WorstUsernameEver replied to Tigranes's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)This bit of concept art that was in the video was on Brian Menze's DeviantArt for quite a while, and the description doesn't really sound like it's meant for Project Eternity, so I'd expect most of the concept art there to be actually from other projects. Going by the guns and the designs I'd say that was DSIII concept art. All speculation on my part, though.

Any chance of pure turn-based combat?
WorstUsernameEver replied to NoxNoctum's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I prefer turn-based but they've already stated they're designing the ruleset with RTwP in mind, and a hybrid system always does more harm than good (see Arcanum and its half-baked combat) and is usually something that gets crammed in as a request from publishers that won't tolerate turn-based-only (well, now they just don't tolerate that type of RPGs period, eheh). I'm sure I'll still enjoy the game though, but so far that's really been my only complaint.

Thank you, sir.

Let's talk about the map
WorstUsernameEver replied to WDeranged's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)According to Sawyer on Something Awful it's actually meant to be the Lake of Drowned Tombs.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS!
Eh, I'm not really sure what dark fantasy is supposed to mean (something like Ravenloft? something like The Witcher that presents a rather pessimistic view on politics, gender relationships and human nature? something like Vampire: The Masquerade but in a fantasy fashion? uh..) but yeah, I'd agree that stuff like the overdone sex, blood, etc. hurt the game.

What I'd like to know is...
WorstUsernameEver replied to DAWUSS's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Mmh... well I know some of the craziest speculation amused me. Then again, "in the know" might be slightly exaggerated.

(2) I recognize your pain.
Neither our (GameBanshee, and iirc, the tipster also contacted Joystiq) source nor Kotaku mentioned any detail about North Carolina (well, Kotaku was told that the project was for Microsoft and that it was meant to be for their next-gen console, but that was it). Stuff like setting, genre (besides the fact that it was to be an RPG, obvs), etc. are things only the people at Obsidian or close to them know, unless there have been other tips/leaks (as far as I know, though, there haven't been).

(4) What do the words mean?
These concepts sound more interesting than anything Obsidian will ever come up with. Someone's gotta hire you presto.

Hopes on new fallout ( online )!
WorstUsernameEver replied to glomevace's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Maybe in gaming circles, but outside of them?

Hopes on new fallout ( online )!
WorstUsernameEver replied to glomevace's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I wouldn't say that it's just accumulated brand value, the PR campaign, impressions from people *and* reception are on a whole other scale compared to Morrowind or even Oblivion. Whether it's deserve or not, up to debate, sure, but it's there.

(4) What do the words mean?
Some people are particularly attached to certain gaming universes, their characters, their locations, their art styles, etc..
