  1. I doubt that too, but can you honestly pass an opportunity to do such thing? Huh? Can you Enoch? Can you?
  2. Considering that some consider Alpha Protocol's PC version a disaster port, I'd say this is sadly a very likely possibility. EDIT : Seems that my impressions that Dungeon Siege III is a project to stay afloat have at least some ground in reality. There are going to be haters everywhere. The only issue with the PC version IMO is the hacking minigame, which I am still very good at and rarely fail. Mind you, we'll have to wait for reliable data before jumping to conclusion. Anyway, project to stay afloat or not, I hope Obsidian's commitment to deliver an high quality experience will be higher than ever. I must admit that, while I remain VERY skeptical, I also am VERY curious, much more than what I initially anticipated after reading the announcement.
  3. You know what would be very funny? Yahtzee reviews it and praises it. Then again, he would be doing that just to troll.
  4. For now we know nothing. All we are discussing about is a bunch of concept arts and well.. the PR announcement. One fairly promising sign is that Obsidian already had modding support for one of their past games (Neverwinter Nights 2) and will most likely have it for Fallout : New Vegas (the lead designer in an interview let it slip that probably 'PC modders will even increase the challenge in other ways'). Both of these titles were sequels to title with a toolset, using non-Obsidian tech though (actually, they redid the rendering technology from scratch for NWN2 I think, but they still could start from an already done engine). Now, I'm not sure if this game is going to run on Obsidian's own engine (Onyx) or not, but it will, most likely, so, who knows... I, personally, would be in favor of a toolset or something similar, as long as it doesn't take too much resources that would be better spent elsewhere.
  5. All those game had less than successful sales though. Tells you something, doesn't it?
  6. While it's true that Obsidian's games have never been particularly well balanced until now (to be honest, it wasn't always their fault, the D&D 3.5 ruleset is as ****ty as you can get with PnP imho), but maybe they'll surprise us and come up with something super-polished and slick. After all, mr.Chapman, when asked about the game (when it still was unannounced) said that he was already pretty happy with the level of polish they reached. Then again, since the beginning I've said one thing, and I'm still going to say it : this projects has all the right stuff to a complete disaster. Not that I hope for it to be a disaster but... Hope some screenshots/preview reach the surface soon (yeah, I know, we'll probably have to wait until E3).
  7. Yup, Eberron is a more steampunkish setting, with some really interesting bits of lore, and some fun mechanics. Never had the pleasure to play a campaign in it, so unfortunately, I can't really tell you more than that.
  8. According to Saywer is the best D&D edition. And certainly, Obsidian wouldn't pass the opportunity of working on a franchise with such an enormous fanbase (even with all the bashing against the 4th ed. there still would be a LOT of guaranteed sales) and do another take on Forgotten Realms or another D&D fantasy setting (Eberron?). Assuming that they manage to implement the mechanics correctly and work on it from scratch, it could even turn out to be a pretty good game, and that's coming from someone that is just as much fed up with D&D crpgs as you. With all the legal shenanigans it's quite improbable that a D&D title will be worked on in the near future though.
  9. Not sure. My guess is that healing items doesn't mean stimpaks, but maybe bandages and the like. Consider that we're talking about info gathered from a translated summary of a german preview... By the way, I simply took this info straight from a The Vault news post and simply reformatted it, so the thanks should be going straight to the user who put the info there in the first place.
  10. I'm not exactly familiar with the franchise, but wasn't Supreme Commander 2 the center of a ****storm of epic proportions concerning patches etc.?
  11. I'll never understand why people think that RPGs require intelligence to play. Well, some actually do, though we're talking mostly about some very old dungeon crawlers and that's about it, not to mention that's more of the intelligence you'd need playing chess and it's really a matter of maths, patience and planning. I.. honestly doubt that Alpha Protocol requires that level of planning and commitment though.
  12. I don't know why but I have the feeling Yahtzee will pass on this game. After all, hasn't he already repeated a lot of times that he hates arpeegees? No, JRPGS. He has a more favorable view of western RPGs. Well, I remember an article where he proposed ditching dialogue trees for Leisure Suit Larry minigames (seriously)...
  13. And that's a good thing.. how? Hey, Krull was awesome! You like hentai visual novels. Your argument is invalid.
  14. And that's a good thing.. how?

  16. Postal & Far Cry are way better. DS movie has some cool fight scenes and Claire Forlani, but those are about the only redeeming qualities. Still, the movie's complete lack of focus & plot is remarkable close to the actual DS game. The DS game seemed to make up the plot at the spot as one trounched baddies... "oh yeah, you just killed a dragon, now go further east for more answers"... "so after killing the evil Seck Necromancer, the heroes decided to go to the Temple of Doom to investigate", etc. He did a Far Cry film too? That's news to me.
  17. ..... I don't like it one bit.
  18. I'm curious about how the combat system will work. Will it be more action-y, something like Dragon Age, something similar to Diablo but with a party? One thing I think we can say for sure is that it won't be turn based.
  19. And I was just stating that from what I've seen and from my point of view, this hasn't worked as well as it should. Feel free to disagree. EDIT : Just to clarify, not all Obsidian's project have been mismanaged, and actually, Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir are examples of smooth developing and relatively good resource allocation. Problem is, all the full fledged games they've published until now (well, I can't blame them for KOTOR2) have been mismanaged. I know I sometimes sound overtly negative, and I actually even lampshaded, but that's because I've liked Obsidian's games until now, I consider both KOTOR 2 and NWN 2 flawed but really enjoyable experience, and since I enjoy their design philosophy and writing more than other big developers of CRPGs, I wish they could, you know, come out of this clunky phase and become more consistent in their delivery. That's all, no conspiracy against Obsidian on my part, though I probably should tone down the sarcasm, but that's just because I'm a jerkass.
  20. That was the idea yeah, but did it really turn out that well until now? Fallout New Vegas could get a pass because it's a project on top of an existing engine, almost untouched, with Obsidian just building content and new assets for the most part (yeah, there has been a rebalance and all that, but from the tech pov, they haven't changed much). But Dungeon Siege III is, as far as we know, a project done from scratch, worked on their proprietary engine, and with an existing franchise. Sounds to me that if they want this to be polished and published in a decent time (assuming they don't pull another Alpha Protocol again, announcing the game, and ending up publishing two years later) they'd have to work on it with a slightly larger team than usual, and it wouldn't hurt if it was managed.. well you know, how can I put it? Decently, yeah, that's the word.
  21. Going by Larry Liberty's podcast no. Apparently Red Eagle games still hasn't secured the fundings.. which puts them in a rather bad light imho, but you can just ignore my overtly negative comments.
  22. 'Two projects and a half' by Chris Avellone (reportedly what he said to Pop at the But thou must! presentation when asked what Obsidian was working on) is the only indication they're working on something else right now. I really hope it's just a small team doing preproduction on something, because if there's anything that we all know by know, is that Obsidian doesn't have the manpower to take all those projects.
  23. Considering that some consider Alpha Protocol's PC version a disaster port, I'd say this is sadly a very likely possibility. EDIT : Seems that my impressions that Dungeon Siege III is a project to stay afloat have at least some ground in reality. Nope! Actually I don't want to do this just to be contrary, but here's where I get to say that GPG and Square have been great to work with and that the DS license has provided more opportunities than restrictions. I don't think I'd call this a "project to stay afloat" at all. In fact, I have a hard time thinking of an IP that's more pleasant to work with. Good to hear, and sorry if I sound harsh, I've enjoyed your work until now, but this message alone doesn't really shake away that impression. Hope the game turns out good, that's for sure.
  24. They've closed the other topic, so I guess I'm going to post this here... According to this quick research by a member of RPGWatch, Alpha Protocol's sales in Europe have been abysmal : http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showpost.ph...mp;postcount=10 I can confirm that I pre-order Alpha Protocol on play.com BEFORE reviews and it was already discounted. I guess that puts the hopes for a sequel in a.. new light.
