They're the true believers, there is no doubt in their minds that their religion is fact and their ideology overpowers even their sense of self preservation. The reason why you can't argue with men like that is that there is no room for doubt in their minds.

You may want to add more figures of speech or something to make the story interesting without resorting to over description. Unless you've been reading A song of Fire & Ice in which I forgive you for describing everything in detail as you probably can't help yourself.

hmm no not ecactly they did actuly manage to make intruieq in games like dragon age origen If you're referring to the brief moments when you're dealing with the trial of Loghain, that was too short to be of any relevance. I don't think there are that many game that deal with political intrigue, much less that do it well. It just seems like a subject which requires the entire story to be melded around it. Really? I thought the entire backstory of Loghain etc. was one of the better parts of the game especially when you add Anora to the mix. Oh well, no biggie. Playing a dwarven noble gives you an entire backstory with a lot of political intrigue. In fact, it puts the entire Orzammar situation in an entire new light. Maybe I'm not wording myself right, I am not critizing DA:O or saying that they didn't do intrigue well. It is just that it was small pockets in between what the bulk of the game is building an army. Even the Witcher 2 who at the core of its story had political intrigue didn't deal directly with it but rather put the protagonist doing what they do best which is hunting monsters. So far I haven't seen a game in which implements political intrigue as a core mechanic vital to the progress of the story. -

Excerpt from the Wikipedia page on pit bulls: "A study questioned the bull dog reputation as a dangerous breed. An electronic search of newspaper articles by Raghavan found that pit bull terriers were responsible for 1 (4%) of 28 dog-bite-related fatalities reported in Canada from 1990–2007. The study also noted that: A higher proportion of sled dogs and, possibly, mixed-breed dogs in Canada than in the United States caused fatalities, as did multiple dogs rather than single dogs. Free-roaming dog packs, reported only from rural communities, caused most on-reserve fatalities. The total number of fatal dog attacks from the 17-year period is equal to about 1 fatal attack per year, while the Clifton Report, a study that includes the 1990–2007 period in the Canadian Veterinary Journal Study, shows an average of 6 fatalities attributed to pit bulls alone annually in the U.S. and Canada. The Clifton Report notes that one limitation is that even experts may disagree as to the breed of a particular dog. In a project called the "Calgary Model," legislation addressing bad owners instead of breeds has been the focus. After implementation, which included fining the owner $350–$1,500 in dog bite cases, there was a 25-year low in the incidence of such cases. Several studies determined that pit bull owners, and owners of other "vicious" or "high risk" breeds (most commonly identified as Akita, Chow Chow, Doberman Pinscher, Rottweiler, and Wolf-mix), are more likely to have criminal convictions and are more likely to display antisocial behaviors. A 2006 study compared owners of "high risk" dogs to owners of "low risk" dogs. "High risk" dogs included “vicious” dogs by breed (e.g., pit bulls) or “vicious” actions (e.g., any dog that had bitten, attacked, or killed a person or other animal). The study determined that "high risk" dog owners had nearly 10 times as many criminal convictions than did "low risk" dog owners.[47] A 2009 study[48] and a followup 2012 study generally supported these findings."

Well, ps3 users have been complaining for the whole generation about how they had to suffer FMVs packed for DVD size, instead of using the full available storage space on blu-rays. Imagine if digital downloads were more heavily compressed than disc releases, or even worse, they'd start compressing the whole release more heavily to make the digital download smaller? If you don't have the bandwidth, buy the disc. Simple. Such rationale requires a level of technological proficiency which console users seem adamant about not learning. If you have a console its very likely that you're trying to avoid technical issues and learning. I find your methodology suspect, especially since I don't feel like I fit your profile myself. Then you may be the exception, I've met some. Still most console owners I know aren't tech savvy and when the inevitable PC vs Consoles debate starts one of the main arguments seems be the convenience of a machine exclusively for playing games. Which seems to be a common response around the web, alongside the fact that consoles (allegedly) don't have to deal with as many technical issues as the PCs. Of course I chalk that up to general ignorance surrounding PC gaming, hell I used to believe that myself before I got into it.

Every man over 30 should have self respect, cause as soon as you hit 35 and the beer gut grow it will be gone. Seriously Raithe, what are you doing perusing girly web sites reading articles by gay men? -
Despite my dislike of knights my value system closely resembles the chivalry code, in order to be good one must not only embody the ideal of virtue but also have the strength to uphold it. Therefore only the strong can be truly virtuous, laymen will lay down their code in order to protect themselves while knights will die for what they know its right. While I don't hold that laymen are evil because of this; its a very human reaction after all, I don't think of them as virtuous or good. The problem with teaching empathy is that you will have to cause suffering upon someone, which is the only way through which we can truly put others ahead of ourselves. You will have to make people buy the fact that there will be no reward for being empathetic, a lot of pain, and most of the persons you will feel for will likely reject you. It takes a tremendous amount of will to go against every natural instinct in your body just to uphold an ideal. I honestly don't think it will catch on, if you could however induce empathy chemically then speak to me about dissemination plans.

Most behaviors that could be considered evil stem from selfishness, I therefore consider empathy to be a requisite virtue for goodness. I don't however think of empathy as part of a value system or something that can be taught. It is rather something innate to which we lose touch due to ideology, upbringing or in some extreme cases biology which gives rise to the irreconcilable differences among men and the problem of evil. Ultimately beneath us there are two instincts fighting for dominance, a will to survive and by its extension the survival of the species which in turn manifest through empathy and other like behavior. Empathy is distinct from goodness that we may not agree or acknowledge certain actions as good but we may empathize with them and understand where they come from. Whereas goodness is a moral absolute that is a polar opposite of evil.

One of the questions of my recent forays into ethics and philosophy has been "Why is every philosophy obsessed with good?" Why if there isn't good and bad this would be a place you wouldn't want to live in? I think this focus on good is ultimately contributing to the fall of western society where personal happiness trumps purpose or meaning.

That's the beauty of Kickstarter in my opinion. If the new Torment, Eternity, Star Citizen, etc are horrible games. There is only one company to blame and that's the developers. I hope they realize this. Especially Obsidian who has a history of complaining about publishers interrupting development. Well, now is the chance to show what you can do when that doesn't happen. And I actually pledged to Eternity 50 euros or something, and I don't actually have much interest in the stuff I get apart from the game. I put 50 euros on the game, the digital stuff is just some nice stuff on the side. The unfortunate side of it is when people's expectations are misinformed, they may hear that it is a game from the guys who did sequels for BW games and did F:NV and think that the game will be something along those lines. Come release day there is no way they are not going to be disappointed.
