Good to see Datsyuk back in the NHL! Wrong team (the Leafs needed you, Pavel.. whyyyy??) but still, he's spectacular to watch. Now.. If only they could get Kovalchuk to sign too, the NHL would be complete.

Talk about impossible mission. I mean, I've seen people claim to have played KotOR for 60 hours! I did everything there was to do in the game and it still only took me just under 30 hours to complete. My cousin (who admittedly probably skipped a lot of side-quests) completed Jade empire in around 13 hours, while some people claim it's a 30+ hours long game. I would love to see it put in a system that worked, but it's too subjective to ever work.

By the way, has anyone heard anything about Dan Blackburn recently? Apparently he's hurt a nerve in his left shoulder and can't use a glove on his glovehand side. Instead he's let someone make a blocker glove (not sure what it's called in english, but it's the same glove as the goalie usually holds the stick with) for both his hands! He still wants to play in the NHL but I'm not sure it's possible to do that, considering he can't hold on to the puck as easily as other goalies. Not holding onto the puck must generate a lot more scoring chances for the other team, right? Rebounds galore. Anyhow, I found a picture of Dan in his new equipment which might better explain what I meant: Weird. Edit: Found an article on the subject: http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=16786

I don't think Datsyuk is a bad kid. I think he ended up in a situation beyond his control. But in the end I'm sure he'll want to come back to the NHL, even if Detroit can't afford him. There are plenty of teams out there who would kill for a player of his caliber. Translated from Rushockey: Yesterday, Soviet Sport correspondent gave Pavel Datsyuk a phone call, who declared that he flatly refuses to let the PHL

Oh, 3 Gb.. Yeah, that sounds awfully restricted. I'm not sure how much I surf around on each month, but I do know that I download lots of game trailers, some of which are in the range of 50-100 Mb. 3 Gb is probably too little. What a weird deal though: 30 Gb if you have 128 Kbit and 3 Gb if you have T1. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

The only noticeable difference between a fast connection and a slower one (for me) is that I can watch streaming movies without hitches. In a few cases (World of Warcraft and another game I forgot the name of) I've had to download some .ISO-files and it's quite nice when 700 Mb takes appr. 10 minutes to download. But for ordinary webpages there's no noticeable difference, in my opinion. By the way, I had to live on 10 Gb/month a while back, and at first it worried me, but after a while I noticed I almost never reached that limit. 30GB should be enough unless you download loads and loads of illegal pr0n..

Well, I know that the last time the Leafs met Ottawa during the preseason, they met each other three times. Ottawa won all three. As long as the Leafs keep winning over Ottawa in the play-offs, I'm quite satisfied.

Oohh, let me add another vote for Irfanview. That's a really great program that I use to open almost any filetype. If you don't know what a file is, just send it to Irfanview and it usually recommends the right type for you. It can also show/play everything from mp3, to divx, to jpeg and swf and txt. I love it!

I reviewed a game called Way of the Samurai 2 a while back. It is an extremely short game with a very messed up save system. But it plays almost like a RPG, with several different routes throughout the game and (I think) several different endings and solutions to most problems. Since it is so short, you basically have to replay it several times to get any value out of it. I think it was intentionally designed that way too, as it's impossible to see everything in one run-through. I must say I didn't like it at all, even though the samurai fighting sequences were pretty neat.

Wow. I thought Far Cry had the best graphics I'd ever seen in a game.. I guess it had to be the creators of Far Cry to try to top that and succeed. Some time ago there were rumours floating that Gothic 3 would use the Cry engine, but those rumours turned out to be false. Let's hope Crytek manages to make some good tools for their engine. I think that was the reason the engine was unsellable last time around. Apparently the tools that come with Unreal Engine 3 are fantastic, which is why it's selling so well.

5-2.. And the Leafs are going to be facing Ottawa for like a hundred times more this season. Woo. Well, I hope it was just rust and.. uh.. hangovers or something.

Another picture editing program that's open source (under the MIT license) and free, and that's being continually upgraded with new features is Paint.NET. It has the most common features right now and it's very easy to learn and use. It is also much less demanding of both space and resources than Photoshop or Gimp. http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/

Dev thoughts on the Nin Revolution Controller
mkreku replied to kumquatq3's topic in Developers' Corner
I just thought of something (after seeing a teaser video for Nintendo Revolution on IGN): imagine Nintendo releasing a controller shaped like the hilt of a lightsaber! Apparently the controller is going to be able to simulate a sword fight too.. if it's not hype. -

No no, I am sure quite a few new shoot'em up fans were thrilled with Jade Empire..

To me, personally, it definitely feels like RPG's in general have gotten a lot shorter. I do not, however, feel that this is a phenomenon that has affected all game genres. Some genres seem to be getting longer (action games) rather than shorter. But the RPG's.. I remember playing the Ultima games (IV & V) for weeks. And that was with 8 hours of playtime most every day. Pool of Radiance also took weeks to beat (well, years for me since I didn't find the final boss.. grr). Wasteland was an awfully long game that took plenty of hours to complete. But these are all games with open-ended worlds where you can go around and explore, get lost or spend time in sub-quests. If you follow a walkthrough I'm sure they're not overly long, but that's not how you play the game the first time you play it. Compared to Jade Empire, those games were epics. If Jade Empire is a hint of the future then YES, the RPG's are becoming a whole lot shorter!

Dev thoughts on the Nin Revolution Controller

Uh.. I think this explains why you keep saying stuff like "Oh, if you keep this up I'll add you to my ignore list". Yeah, you go dig up your old quotes and edit them to make yourself look better. I am sure nothing you ever say is wrong. Just watch out so that big head of yours doesn't explode. Instead explain to me how Blu-Ray is going to make the games I'll play on my future PS3 different (better? more fun?), because I can give you plenty of examples how the Nintendo controller is able to change the games we play (assuming it works as intended). -

The argument you two had in that thread was about what MDK (the game's acronym) really stands for. Don't try twisting it into sounding like you had an argument about what the general acronym MDK stands for. EnderWiggin believes MDK stands for "Murder, Death, Kill". Sarjahurmaaja believes it does not. The only thing that's certain is that the developers never told anyone what it stands for. That's the only "evidence" in the matter. The rest is assumptions and probability, and everyone knows how much evidence lies in those two words. -

I followed that thread. You are lying. You did not have any "evidence" on your side. -
Dev thoughts on the Nin Revolution Controller

There's nothing new to the PS3 or the Xbox 360. As usual Nintendo brings innovation while the big boys battle over who has more power. I won't say power is completely useless, but I think we've come to a point where more power does no longer give developers a clear advantage, as it used to (when moving from 2D to 3D). Physics is really the only feature where I can see any major improvement. Innovation is more exciting than raw power. I'm glad that Nintendo keep trying to bring something new to the gaming scene. I, personally, see a TON of opportunities to create unique games with those controllers, especially if Nintendo are smart enough to ship the console with two of them in a package. And bringing up Nintendo's past failures is nothing short of ignorant. Of course the innovators are going to have failures! Trying something new is the most risky business there is. Just look at the gaming market of today: fps's are 13 a dozen, because they're proven technology and brings nothing new to the market. Nothing new = less risk. Most companies are chicken ****, Nintendo are not, and even though I generally don't like Nintendo's games (I hate cutesy games) I respect them for their balls. But the dumbest opinion award still goes to this remark: "If you think that Blue-Ray storage and multicore processing isn't huge, then I don't know what to tell you." Who is stupid enough to believe that Blu-Eay is going to make the games we play better?? More space = higher definition in movies/pictures (textures) or more movies/pictures. Great gameplay is not dependant on media space. I love new technology as much as the next man, but it's plain stupid to think it will affect anything major in the games we play. -
