I'm not sure. On the one hand, Spellbound managed to stop the crashing and the memory leaks in Gothic 3 with the last patch. It has not crashed for me once since that patch, impressively enough. On the other hand.. Well, the stuttering is still there, and for the first five minutes of starting a session, it is actually worse than pre-patch for me. At first I thought they really screwed up on that one, but whenever I play for longer than five minutes, the stuttering all but disappears (maybe once every twenty minutes it randomly locks up for 1-2 seconds). I have a feeling the engine may be so badly designed from the ground up that it will always stutter, no matter what (short of a complete rewrite). It matters less for me now since I've gotten used to it, but I can easily see how this would be annoying for someone a little less Gothic-enamoured than me..

I would think so, yes. It will be interesting to see how they handle the Gothic expansion. If they pull it off, I'll have high hopes for Gothic 4.

Go Ottawa! They're really playing better with the captain back in the line-up! 1-0 so far and it feels like they have a shot at winning tonite.

Yeah, the last couple of patches actually removed the CD check completely. I'm playing the game with my Collector's Edition box stored safely somewhere else. It's almost like a No-CD patch... I guess they don't care anymore. It already sold 500,000+ copies.

I suspect the only guys who prefer brunettes are the ones who can't get blondes. Redheads aren't even on the map.

Do you honestly want that kind of behaviour to be included in hockey? I know you always defy all reason and logic, but even someone as narrow-minded as you should be able to see past your team loyalty. Unsportsmanlike conduct should be referred to more often. Glad they took care of it immediately. Props to the NHL for doing this.

Add Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods to my looking forward to-list. A newly announced expansion for Gothic 3.. Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=132124

Expansion for Gothic 3 confirmed! http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=132124 Called Forsaken Gods. Even though I hate myself for it, I know I'll be getting this. On release day. Without waiting for reviews

Boiling Point. But it's a FPS/RPG hybrid that's horribly flawed in some cases and absolutely wonderful in others. You either love it or hate it. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?artic...9379&page=2

I liked how they did it in GTA: Vice City. There you got sort of a souvenir for every mission you solved in the main storyline. After a while, your spartan hotel room looked like a real apartment. I could easily imagine something like that.

Well, as the rest of you, I've been pretty lax with my exercise this winter. I recently started up again and today I tried running 3 kilometres, timed. I ended up crossing the finish line at 12.41. That's an average of 14.1 km/h.. which means I'm slower than a fat man Still, I'm just starting to get ready for Beach 2008! I will improve!

Wow, what a great game by Calgary! I'm actually enjoying this post-season even though my beloved Leafs are out playing golf and eating Big Macs somewhere.

Blondes. Preferably Swedish ones.

The captured city of Vengard.. It's the same kind of magic bubble that surrounded the entire island in the original Gothic, only smaller. Some of the capturers (orcs), posing in front of the besieged city.

And you mean The Original Fallouts did not suffer from this very same problem..? I think you guys need to replay the old games if you remember it as anything but repetitive, slow and boring + gore. And what else was the exploding guts in the previous parts other than "a thirteen year old's pipe dream"? Are you saying the gore added something more in 2D than it can in 3D? Or did it add more just because it was done by Black Isle? I feel you're criticising Fallout 3 for the exact same things that were seen in Fallout & Fallout 2. But just because it's Bethesda doing it (in 3D instead of 2D) it is suddenly the worst thing ever. Same with VATS. To me it sounds like this: You have action points. When you spend them you'll pause the combat, choose what to do and your chosen actions play out in slow motion (your turn). When your action points are spent, you'll either just sit back and wait for the AP's to return (which means "their turn" in the old games lingo) or continue fighting in FPS style. It basically sounds like it's going to be like in the previous games (if you wait for AP's), just with the added option of NOT having to wait for turns, instead being able to play it in real-time automatically. I would have LOVED to have that option the tenth time I met one rat on the other side of the screen in Fallout..

Well, one thing's for certain: noone celebrates a goal as enthusiastically as Ovechkin! League leader in that department. Fantastic game by the Caps! I don't think I was bored a minute in the entire game, which is more than I can say for the Detroit game I watched the other night..

Watching the Washington - Philly game. David Steckel just scored. 2-1 Washington right now.

I restarted a game of Gothic 3, now with all the latest patches. It really is a fantastic game, despite the performance issues (stuttering and stuff). Damn, these Piranha Bytes guys really knows how to hit all the right strings in me. Gigantic, fully explorable world, tons of varied quests, truckloads of hidden stuff to find, interesting characters (especially if you enjoyed the previous two parts), decent story (that you're allowed to unravel in three different ways!) and just so much detail in everything. If only you still had the ability to climb and dive (swimming is still in), it would be even better. I had so much fun climbing the branches of the trees in the world, and use that advantage to shoot fire arrows at wolves in Gothic & Gothic 2.. Gothic 3 uses Speed Tree, the most generic tree producer in the business. Branches don't even have hit detection anymore. Anyhow, I am having a blast even though I am just up to Cape Dun (starting the liberation tomorrow).

I think I want to add Gothic 3 to my list. I know it stutters, I know it WAS buggy (recent patches has stopped ALL crashing for me and I've actually not seen anything worse than some clipping issues and such!), I know it's spread a bit thin.. but the world! The atmosphere! The myriad of things to do! The cities and temples and monasteries and mines and islands and and and.. it's just so awe inspiringly well done! I am replaying it right now and even though I thought I was very thorough last time, I am again finding new stuff I have never seen before! It really is a world. So.. Wasteland Gothic Gothic 2 Deus Ex GTA: San Andreas Fallout 2 Ultima IV Daggerfall Gothic 3 One more to go

Uhm.. this is a thread about unarmed combat, pixies. Not about revealing your personal sexual fantasies.

I watched the Detroit - Nashville game earlier. It was surprisingly boring and not as even as the numbers may suggest. Detroit really is like a machine that never lets up. Like a boring hockey version of the Terminator.. "It never quits..!". I don't know, maybe I've been watching too much Caps hockey lately or something.

Pretty lame thing to write. So they're obviously "preorchestrated" and "devoid of substance"? Why not click them FIRST and read them and THEN share your opinion with us? I'm sure your opinion would be more appreciated AFTER you'd actually informed yourself on them. Not that it matters, since what you wrote in your post makes it pretty clear that you've already made up your mind (why give them clicks, right?). And YES, publishers set a time and a date when you're allowed to post things! If you obey these rules, you'll get invited to the next press showing. Is that somehow related to the quality of the previews? Or to the quality of the game even..? I don't think so. But it's way ... better than coming to this board and getting NOTHING from the developers themselves, isn't it? Or maybe you think "our game is going to be tyte" is more informative and filled with substance than previews? Since this was a press showing, all the previews will read and tell the same thing. Kind of natural since they all were shown the same things. But you know what? Every publisher does this. You might as well replace "Bethesda" in your post with any other publishing name out there. They all play by the same rules. Edited by SteveThaiBinh

They just got funding. I'd bet that they took down the old site in preparation for the new, funded site.

I thought the Kotaku one was pretty interesting. It's surprising to see how a player who is new to the Fallout universe reacts to Fallout 3, since many of his reactions sound almost like the ones I had when I first played Fallout!
