  1. You have to give it to him, he IS kind of funny..
  2. Holy crap, I looked at the picture first and thought "WTF KAFTAN HAS TALENT! THAT'S AWESOME!!". Then I read the text and all the flying pigs fell down to earth again.
  3. I just want to remind everyone that this comes from a guy who thinks The Sims 2 is a great RPG.. with a story you "write yourself". Anyhow, my top ten in no particular order (I wonder how many times I've done such a list..): Wasteland: Post-apoc, great story, great world, great quests, great writing and great character development system. Has aged badly. Gothic: One of a kind. Horrible controls, linear halfway in, otherwise perfect (for me). Gothic 2: Better controls, LOTS of non-linearity but weaker story. Even more perfect (for me). Deus Ex: Absolutely fantastic. Imagine if the levels hadn't (occasionally) felt like shoeboxes?! It would have been the ultimate game. GTA: San Andreas: A beautiful, gigantic world where the fun (and violence) never ends. If only it wasn't so 'forgetful' (turn around, burning wreck is gone) it would be the best game ever. Probably. Fallout 2: I hate the camera angle and the sometimes sleep inducing combat, but the writing, the humour and the world (and all that's in it) are fantastic. Ultima IV: A game where your choices and the way you play really matters. One of few. Also aged badly. Daggerfall: So many flaws, I know, but it's also one of (if not THE) most atmospheric games I've ever played. I've never felt so free in a game as I did in Daggerfall. Uh.. My mind went blank. I'll add two more later if I think of any.

Great game happening between Minnesota and Colorado! Gaborik is just as good in the play-offs as he is in the grind, at least in this game. Forsberg has been more dominant than I've seen him in years. And despite not having made especially many saves, B

I like the new design. I thought the old design was ugly.
  7. I'd call it the "1000 monkeys" syndrome. I bet a thousand people put up their predictions and one of them got it right and that's all there is to it.
  8. Passion and commitment? Not really. When there were seven guys in a basement making the game they wanted to play themselves, yes. Nowadays when they have to pimp their incredibly generic and formulaic projects to publishers to get the green light, not so much. Also, from seeing what developers of today make in salaries, I'd say they're in it for the money. Passion is a lost virtue. Ever wonder why it costs 40 million to make an AAA game nowadays? Is it because it takes so many more man hours to complete one such project? Or is it because game developers have fallen for the myth surrounding them and demand rock star money to get out of bed each morning? I don't know, but in the end it's the consumer that's paying the bill and it bugs me.
  9. What if they chose the Fallout franchise because they also happened to love the Fallout games? They're a business, they have a plan for the game, they happen to love Fallout. Fallout 3 is a product of these factors. I don't think it's any more complex than that.
  10. My first choice (not among the options in the poll) would be an honest game world. The rest kind of comes with that. By honest game world I mean a world where there are as few imposed, immersion breaking limitations as possible. A game world where the built in laws of physics determine most of what's possible and what's not. Doors should be openable (unlocked/locked/shot through/driven through with a car/kicked in), the world shouldn't end with a three feet high unclimbable/jumpable fence (make an ocean or another natural barrier in that case), characters are killable, vehicles are driveable, random stuff is usable, etc. Then you build your quests according to your story from there. Be smart about it, use whatever's at hand in the well-designed world!
  11. NOT ALL AT ONCE NOW!
  12. First play this stupid game: http://nekogames.jp/mt/2007/05/post_16.html Then please tell me how you beat Stage 33 (with the diagonal stripes). I AM STUCK and it's driving me mad.

Well, I'm not saying he was bad. I'm just saying I hope he'll show he has what it takes to go deep in the play-offs. Being bounced in the second round doesn't really show what he can do.
  14. I think the sports themselves should remain untouched. The athletes should not suffer because of politics. But I also think that this is a great venue for each nations leaders to show their stance on several difficult issues. The opening ceremonies is where such activities should take place, but so far it seems that no nation is brave enough to go through with their plans. A boycott isn't a good solution, raising awareness and showing support is. Small countries like Norway (who almost decided to boycott the ceremonies but chickened out in the last minute) and Sweden (who chickened out before the discussion even took place..) can't do much against an economic super-power like China. They can cause us much more harm than we can cause them any good, so to speak. But bigger nations (Russia, USA) or the EU could together come up with a plan that puts pressure on China.

Montreal vs Boston: Montreal in 6. Everyone expects the Bruins to just lie down and die, but this is the play-offs! Still, Montreal are too good for them. Pittsburgh vs Ottawa: Ottawa in 7! Noone believes in Ottawa right now, but if Alfredsson comes back in time I think they'll pull it off with experience. Ottawa IS the better team, they just need to get out of their funk. Washington vs Philly: Washington in 7. This might go either way, but the Caps has Ovechkin. I've seen him decide games before, he might continue to do so in the play-offs. This will probably be the most entertaining match up in the first round for me. New Jersey vs New York: Rangers in 6. Based on the teams record this season (7-1 for the Rangers!) plus I'm hoping Lundkvist will finally show what he's capable off in the play-offs too. Detroit vs Nashville: Detroit in 4. Noone believes in Nashville. NOONE! But Detroit has looked sooo good this season and now they've got Homer back.. San Jose vs Calgary: Calgary in 7. Iginla & Kiprusoff will be like Jagr & Hasek in the '98 Olympic Games when the Czech's won gold. Minnesota vs Colorado: Minnesota in 6. Gaborik plus rock solid defence will stymie Sakic, Hejduk and Forsberg, and what does Colorado have then? Anaheim vs Dallas: Dallas in 6. No stars (despite the name) but Dallas is an even team and they're good. Anaheim will be upset by them. I also predict that I will be way off on exactly everyone of my predictions
  16. You are confusing graphics fidelity with graphics design. It does NOT cost more to make a room more interesting than that generic apartment in question! Put in some flowers, a couple of African masks on the walls, rearrange the furniture so it doesn't look like an ad for IKEA, etc. Stuff like that. Bring more personality and make it look like the apartment has been lived in (pizza cartons? ). What you are talking about is rewriting the render engine (for more snazzy effects) and/or remodelling the objects (by adding more polygons). That is NOT the same thing as making something look less generic, but that's the main way of making the graphics consume more resources (money).
  17. You can get a dog in The Sims 2
  18. Actually, here is a better link (if you don't mind the German..): http://www.pcgames.de/aid,638781/Bildergal...t_zu_Fallout_3/ 15 new screens! Not bad!
  19. A few new PS3 screens. Looks pretty OK to me. http://ps3.psu.com/Fallout-3-Screenshot-23...out-3__g356.php Especially like this one:
  20. The geekiest memory stick ever. I love it.
  21. Not really interested in MMO's. It's too bad Age of Conan is one because I would have absolutely loved it as a RPG. Anyhow, I was looking up the games I have on my list of "looking forward to" and found this little piece on Boiling Point, Precursors (look out for this one!) and White Gold (Boiling Point 2): http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=763 It's amazing how much alike me and this Jim dude thinks! Who cares about weird bugs and low production values when the game is so good?
  22. It would be unfair if it was some sort of competition. But it's not. It's real life results we're talking about and right now XP is (still) the choice for gamers, no matter how good Vista will eventually (potentially) be.
  23. Your garage must be bigger than your house.
  24. Yeah, it's really weird.. Gothic had climbing, and it was one of the coolest aspects of that game as it made the already open-ended world feel even more open and explorable. Then Gothic 2 came and they conitnued their great tradition of letting the player climb everywhere (even outside the map..). But then they release the bug-fest Gothic 3 and BOOM goes the climbing. Replaced by jumping! Wtf!? Oh yeah, I remember that too. First you couldn't climb out of your own bed, your climbing skill was so bad. Then you got better and it became useful. But as you continued to use it, the skill just kept growing and growing.. I remember running super-fast through a town, when I suddenly (and accidentally) climbed a really high building, flew over the roof and died from the fall on the other side
