Obsidain why you lie to us?
WDeranged replied to oldmanpaco's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Jesus god, I never realised until I read this topic, I just, I, I...PERFIDY!!! -
And if this is the case, what would people think of that? I rather like having memories myself, thank you. Not that the denizens of that world necessarily know the nature of their afterlife. It sounds a lot like the dreamsleeve concept from the Elder Scrolls, by the way Sharmat, I'm playing Morrowind at the moment...my Nerevarine is coming to break your toys

Seeing how we should only be getting short snippets of voice, all I want from the actors is character, voice acting these days seems to be focused on realism and it's lost some of that weird magic you get from an actor with a really distinctive voice hamming it up Obsidian are pretty good at getting voice talent, Black Isle weren't slouches either, I won't lose much sleep over it.

Dragons.
WDeranged replied to Frank the bunny's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Perhaps it's a world where dragons used to be common but then they all disappeared/went extinct for some reason ... but they're still a big part of the lore/culture in terms of symbols, rituals, legends/prophecy, and so on. ^Ooh, I like this. Could tie into the Orobouros they've been using as a logo, too. Developing on this concept, what about a world falling apart? The dragons were basically gods/spirits, but they vanished. Since then the world's been sliding towards its doom, as some people still worship the dragons to try to get them to come back, and some people turn to darker gods.. Of course, I'm sure whatever they do will be completely different, but still. Yeah, I agree. I think the best route is to take inspiration more from the Eastern nature spirit-esque godish dragons, as opposed to the Western ones. I agree, I like the idea of dragons being something different, and I especially like the idea of them being dead or dissipated, more of an underlying force behind something grand. -
Dragons.
WDeranged replied to Frank the bunny's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Dragon Age (and Skyrim to a lesser degree) failed to do justice to dragons, they're supposed to be something ancient and mysterious, relentlessly alien and terrifying...unfortunately I'm burnt out on them now, I wouldn't mind just the one but it would have to be something really special for me not to shrug at it. -
Gold should only have weight if the world supports a system of managing it, just having a "bank" isn't good enough, what's the point in that? Now maybe if there was a whole questline revolving around the bank or economy in general than maybe it could be something cool, having your hard earned resources threatened etc.

Mature Themes?
WDeranged replied to pseudonymous's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think we're mostly on the same page about what maturity means, we know it's not bewbs, ass n blood, it's about complexity and angles...everyone's got an angle and we all want to be right, what happens when the angles meet is where the good stuff happens. -
Background lore is hugely important to me in any medium, in the months building up to Dragon Age's release I remember exhaustively reading the wiki and being somewhat heartbroken when I got the game...there was nothing more to be learnt, Bioware had shot their load onto that wiki and that was my lot. Morrowind is my prime example of how to weave lore into a world, PS:T also to a lesser degree but it's still incredibly dense with details that don't matter at all to the main quest, I love that stuff

Judge Hades Character
WDeranged replied to Hurlshort's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
One of my better friends died almost ten years ago, he was an unwashed nuisance, a hassle, a begger...I'm sure the bastard owed me money too but I still keep his picture on display, in the wooden frame his mother made for it. Just because someone was a screw up doesn't mean we can't think fondly of them when they are (presumably) gone -
Something which constantly strikes me when playing PS:T (and Morrowind to a lesser extent) is the depth of the lingo, most fantasy games give you this blanket of C*ckney bulls**t and expect you to be satisfied, screw that...I want to be confused by what I'm reading, at least for a while. Anyway, it's almost 9am here and I haven't slept because of this announcement, bedtime for me

The pledge rewards
WDeranged replied to Kaldurenik's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm up for more options, I'm pretty badly torn between the $140 and $250 tiers right now. -

That's my hope, as long as this thread doesn't get buried I think they'll hear us. -
Let's talk about the map
WDeranged replied to WDeranged's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That's actually a relief but it's still a little bit vanilla DnD sounding, most of the other names sound good and sturdy though, I get quite caught up on names in fiction, good names really help. -
Yo, Alvin and the other Obs Devs

What interests me is how the heads always appear to bob in time with the music, try dragging that slider around a bit, it's crazy...or I need sleep.
