Thanks mate, I don't know why I'm spilling my guts here but I need to distract myself somehow...this place is kind of my night time home these days.

*bitter chuckle at nothing in particular*

Dad died today, I'm sitting at my parent's dining table at 2am, wearing my dad's slippers and drinking sherry while my mum tries to sleep in their bed, the one person I wanted to be there for me wasn't, she's ignoring my phone calls and messages...or she's asleep, either way this is a long dark night of the soul.

I felt like a change of pace and installed Supreme Commander : Forged Alliance, I love these games, the constant micromanagement sucks all your attention, leaving a cup of tea stone cold and a cigarette burnt away to nothing in the ashtray...great for taking your mind off things

This sale isn't doing much for me so far, I picked up Dishonored for half price in the last one though, money well spent even if the plot had some issues.

Got a cough, drank half a bottle of Baileys...where the hell does it go?

Sitting on my parents sofa all dozy because I stayed up too late, when I did go to bed I found the cat had puked over it and I had to change the sheets, the turkey is well on it's way to being cooked though, smells great

I just know there's going to be a ton of cognitive dissonance after this, all the predictions of earth shattering/soul changing events will morph into less provable fluff..."I know I said Jesus would return but I never said he would make himself known! He is working amongst us now, in secret!"

I like those blocks of wood. Reading on a screen is just not the same for me. For one thing, I still think no e-book has the size of a paperback book page right. Feels like I'm reading/looking at half a page, and I can't read one side (one page) then the other side (a 2nd page) without having to scroll/hit a button. eg, there's so much less text available at once. Annoying when you read novels really fast. I have to agree, ebook technology still has a way to go but at this point it seems pretty clear it'll get there, I think I'm just dazzled by the fact that I'm reading again, the last actual book I read was in 2003 I think

This is turning out to be a painless procedure so far, luckily I kept all these discs packed away on one spindle, it's freaky though, I'm listening to the very first mp3 I downloaded (pirated) in 1996...on the 22nd of November at 12am to be precise, I remember going into college the next day and telling everyone about this amazing new mp3 thing, one of the lads was especially dickish and took the piss out of me for listening to old (last year's) music *edit* The song was by Deep Blue Something.
-
I'm currently sifting through all the mp3's i backed up to disc over the years and moving them over to my backup drive, it's about 15 years worth of my musical tastes all laid out...with dates and times, I feel both sickened and elated.

I don't want to spoil anything but it doesn't get any better, the plot is a big dumb carnival ride but thankfully I really dug the world and gameplay, it's really no worse than your average anime in plot terms.

I had a Sony Reader about four years ago and hated it, it was like reading the ghost of a book...luckily eink screens have come a long way, I got a Kindle and over the space of a year I've read more books that I have in the last ten years, those 1000 page monsters are surprisingly easy to devour when you're not struggling with a block of wood.

I've spent the last few days tinkering with my guitar, I bought a ton of soldering/electronics stuff and a 50's wiring kit to get more of a vintage sound but I've ended up becoming obsessed with tracking down every little hum and crackle, time to take a break soon Otherwise I'm waiting for Christmas to happen, I'm going round my parents on xmas eve to help my mum do some cooking, neither of them are strong enough to lift a turkey now, it's kinda depressing but I'm glad to help.

Grabbed Mirror's Edge yesterday to kiiiiinda make up for pirating it back in 2008...yep, I'm the reason it took so long for a sequel announcement

Fully automatic weapons are not legal for general ownership in the US. Semi-automatic, yes. I concede my ignorance when it comes to guns but I've seen enough dude-bro type videos on youtube to wonder why these guys need such firepower, a handgun and a shotgun at home should be all you need for personal safety, you're sailing pretty close to the crazy waves if you can't sleep without more. Anyway, it's a sad day and I don't have any answers
-
I agree with the view that banning all guns at this point would only affect the law abiding but I have to question the need for automatic assault weapons, beyond the obvious cool toy factor you're not going to need it for anything, even if the gub'mint goes full tyrant and you need a revolution your rifles won't do much against their armies of swarming killbots.

I completed Primordia last night and was surprised to find out the game has a load of different endings, my only real complaint is that the game could have been longer
-
Still playing Primordia and enjoying it, I don't think it quite achieves legendary status but if it was made back in the golden days of point and clickers it definitely could have, it feels so authentic and is a pleasure for my old brain.

On the subject of Valve I just found a video of some guy from 4chan visiting their head office and talking to Gabe, .

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Thread #2
WDeranged replied to IcyDeadPeople's topic in Computer and Console
Most of Skyrim's major questlines sputter out a bit, I really don't know how they did it, in my opinion the set up was really good, embarking on all these quests felt great but the pay off rarely matched the hype, I could forgive the plot missteps if the Thieves Guild was more thiefy and the Mages College was more magey and so on. Oblivion's TG quest was actually pretty damn epic and is a contender for my favourite thieving memories in any game, Mages Guild not so much but it did have some really amusing parts, best to forget about the whole Mannimarco joke at the end though Morrowind's guilds kinda suck, most of the quests kinda suck when you get right down to it, people who think Skyrim is just a giant fetch/kill quest have short memories, the difference with Morrowind in my opinion is that the world (and game) is a genuine puzzle, a beautiful conflicted mess with several ways to get stuff done. -
I finished Dishonored last night, the (chaotic) ending was very short and barely satisfied but at least it wasn't totally awful, taken as a whole the game is a lot of fun and I'll definitely be replaying it. I also noticed Primordia was available and pulled the trigger on it, I'm only a couple of hours into the game but it feels like the most genuine 90's point and click tribute so far, you could argue they went too far with the authenticity but the pixel hunting and occasionally obtuse puzzles do add to the experience, the plot and setting is decent too, very Beneath a Steel Sky.
