First off he was at Zenimax Online, not the main TES team. Secondly, I don't think Skyrim was far into production when he left. Yeah I was talking about Michael Kirkbride but I was too lazy to press the quote button. I mentioned him because Ziets once said how much he liked Kirkbride's writing, in my perfect world they'd both be working on a proper Elder Scrolls game.

I think he's a bit of a troubled genius, it was especially strange that he did nothing official for Skyrim considering that he was enthusiastic about the game and wrote most of what we knew about the setting. His recent work is pushing the Elder Scrolls lore into space exploration and weird digital stuff so maybe his direction just doesn't fit in with Bethesda's idea of what TES is nowadays

Great interview, how I wish Ziets could have been put in charge of a real Elder Scrolls game, one thing I sorely missed in Skyrim was Michael Kirkbride's psychosexual alien weirdness.

I've already got Psychonauts on Steam and Stacking on the PS3 but I pitched in, been wanting to try Brutal Legend for a while and it's nice to have Stacking on the PC, no idea if costume quest is any good though.

I'm currently reading Perdido Street Station by China Meiville, I was put off by the wordy introduction but as soon as I got to the intimate love scene between a fat man and an insect woman I got interested, I wouldn't say I'm hooked but his writing style is very interesting and he uses lots of descriptive words that I have to look up

Had a BBQ at my mums, now I'm tired, sunburnt and full of black meat, feels good

I loved those old Terminator games, I didn't realise until years later that they were the same company that made the Elder Scrolls games.

Makes sense to me, fingers crossed.

I finally got around to installing Arkham Asylum and I've really been enjoying it, they've managed to cram quite a few satisfying mechanics into the Unreal engine. Mark Hamill's joker is always excellent and I can't imagine an animated Batman without Kevin Conroy's voice, so far the Arkham games seem like a good send off for them. Also dabbling in Retro City Rampage and Abobo's Big Adventure, both games are just excellent

i generally agree, but what happened was the golden era rpg's were heading forward forward forward and then BAM, they just stopped. a few years later we got dumbed down games trying to cater to different audiences instead of deeper experiences built on the groundwork laid by "golden age" crpgs. so now, we need to get back to the "good old days" type of game before trying to improve on them. dragon age 1 was a step in that direction, imo, but that even that game was followed up by a dumbed down acshun!! game as a somewhat related side note: where is the spiritual successor to system shock 2? i guess its deus ex HR, because it sure as heck isn't bioshock infinite. This is how I feel, the previous "golden age" was cut short, 3D graphics cards and powerful consoles happened and all the developers had to shift direction to stay on the money trail. In my opinion some of the new "retro" platformers are really pushing the boundaries of their art, I'm hoping to see RPGs get a similar shot in the arm.

Yeah it's too early to call it a new golden age but it's so close you can taste it, I genuinely hope I don't get hit by a bus and miss it

I'm curious about Oblivion but I'll wait for the Blu Ray, on the other hand I'm quite excited for the new Star Trek movie, my cousin has convinced me to go and see it next month. I enjoyed the first one even if I took issue with some of the akshun moovy nonsense and glaring lens flares, I'd guess some fancy new plugin had been released that year...

Well, that would make me look rather foolish. Apparently he was missing before the reddit lark but I can't agree more about the 24hr carnival of fear that is modern news.

Aw now I'm getting the urge to finally try Dragonborn, but I just know the mushroom towers will have a teleporter or some kind of levitation pad...

Sad but true

The painter quest was in Cheydinhal by the way, not Leyawiin...derp

I've had an itch to try Zeno Clash for ages, one day...
-
Isn't that pretty much the whole concept of Epic Mickey? I totally consider my rhetorical question answered As Drudanae says it's in the vanilla game, you can find it in Leyawiin, it's a short quest but one of the more memorable ones

I hadn't played it for three years and since then I've played Morrowind, New Vegas and Skyrim so I felt like going back to see how it stacks up. In some places the world design is clumsy, the engine sucks and some of the quests are moronic but the majority of the game still impresses me, there's a sense of crazy fun about it all. Morrowind has the eerily haunting lore/world, Skyrim has the chest beating epicness but Oblivion has the fun, I think it has the most amusing quests of the series. What other game lets me jump into a painting and kill stuff with turpentine?

I still find Oblivion very pretty sometimes. Viewable distant object mods really help to make the landscape more interesting. Still wish I could turn down that bloom though... Swaaaaaying foliage. Yes, I'm one of those people

I'm back on my lonesome and catching up on my own hobbies and habits, there's nothing better than lounging around all week with a girl but I also enjoy the peace that comes afterwards As it happens I finally got around to watching the first three episodes of GoT season 3, as far as I can tell they're not missing a beat, time and space jumps around a bit too much for my tastes (season 1's pacing felt better) but I was glued to the screen. On the subject of sex I'm not seeing the gratuity this time around, so far it feels more reserved but I still have one episode to catch up on

Speaking as a Brit this is otherworldly footage, if it's going on all over Boston then the scale seems over the top...I'm tired and half way into a bottle of pear cider so apologies if this post doesn't exactly light fires in the minds of men

A friend of mine has decided to drop everything and jump on a domestic flight to come and see me, she'll be on my doorstep within the hour...crazy stuff
