  1. No, but it's a great way to deal out an elitist snub. Kind of like criticising higher-level abstract game design areas like "art direction" and "writing". "I can't play the game, it has a generic setting, poor art direction and juvenile writing. I'll go fap over Witcher, now". In semirelated news, it's going to take A LOT of convincing to get me to buy a Dungeon Siege game.
  2. I think all geeks start out that way. Wikipedia just allows them to keep going further.
  3. I remember Leland spouting "The only thing more lucrative than a war, is a cold war". Or something. ^^ That's what I was trying to say.
  4. Hopefully, the Alien Blaster. My favourite tool to swiftly off the ubiquitous Giant Radscorpion. Hopefully not, not because I don't like it as a weapon, not because I hate easter eggs, but because I can imagine the ****storm on the Bethesda forums with things like 'OBSIDIAN??!! WHY HAVE YOU MADE MOTHERSHIP ZETA CANNON??!!' Yeah 'cannon'. That spelling is more common than the correct one, and no, that's not just a Beth's forums problem. You mean the rouges in dues ex arent cannon???++++plus
  5. I must have been playing a different game. In mine they weren't trying to cause world war 3, they were trying to boost there sales in a way that was accidentally going to create ww3. :/
  6. Because human eyes are able to see that 20FPS difference... RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.... Actually they can. Also that's not really the point. I also don't think they want to bash anyone, and if I had to find a target for some perceived bashing, it would be Valve, for not being capable of a perfect port. Still, it seems like the performance differences are not as big as some other ports, so all in all, I'd still be pretty happy to be a Mac owner who plays with Steam (since I doubt that someone would buy a Mac for games, so the rapidly extending library is more like icing on the cake). Movies are presented in cinemas about 25FPS (cant remeber the exact number right now) And humans do not notice any hickups... So 60 or 90 FPS is for humans the same as 25 FPS... the only difference in games, in this FPS difference is, that the mouse is better responsive and has better performance with higher FPS... Movies are 24fps. It's not that straightforward, though, sometimes you see jerkiness in pans etc., but most of us are so used to it we don't pay it any attention. Generally you'd be able to tell the difference between 24fps and 60fps material (the first seams "dreamier", the second more "realistic").
  7. Having the same issue on the second playthrough. (PS3 here as well)
  8. Interesting thing is that it's showing up on IGN's "most viewed" games - all others are major unreleased titles, RDR or in the 9s. Interest seems to exceed the lacklustre US mainstream gaming media reviews. We'll see.
  9. So finding little boxes with red crosses on them that magically instantly patch you to full health is more immersive? Probably what you'd see in screens of Deus Ex 1, as well? It's as a Deus Ex game is supposed to look!
  10. shrug, Mass Effect 1, another UE game, has pretty bad tearing on the x360. While I agree with you in principle, unfortunately the reality is different. Re: my settings, let's just say that I'm fairly sure I have everything set up correctly.
  11. UseVsync= Is in the APEngine.ini. Well, I'll just open up the textedit in my PS3, Captain Obvious.
  12. What he said. What they said. I'm trying really hard to think of some other games I'm looking forward to. Force Unleashed II? Meh... Fallout:NV... mebbe. Can't think of anything else, really. :/
  13. The first two are hardly things in need of a patch, they are features, stats, recruit testing. What do you mean with number 3? Customize what? Mikey? Guns? Armour? Safehouse? User Interface? Perhaps fixing actual bugs should come first and foremost. I am not saying your post was pointless and unlikely to change anything... okay perhaps I am. The only real bugs I've had so far on PS3 were a repeatable lockup when opening the TV in a safehouse (twice in Saudi, once in... Russia I believe) and once falling into the skybox in the final Taipei mission (that was repeatable too, until I reloaded the mission as opposed to just a save). The epic tearing is not a bug, per se, and I guess v-sync is not something a patch would bring us, but it would absoutely rock if something could be done about it.
  14. Well, I should rather say the AI was unpredictable. Either way, I didn't think of tranquilizer darts because I though it was okay to shoot them. Until of course Mina pointed out it's not. But then it was too late as hell broke loose. It's perfectly OK to shoot them, Mina just doesn't like it when you do it. You don't always have to do what girls want.
  15. I don't understand why providing what is essentially a 'New game+ light' mode is a douchebag move. Yes, they provide us with more options for different kinds of experiences. What a bunch of tossers!
  16. My first four FPSes: Wolfeinstein 3D, Doom, Half-Life, Deus Ex. You can guess how much your points apply from my point of view. It's funny, wasn't Deus Ex criticised for these very same things? Bad AI and lacklustre shooting at least, can't remember anything about stealth from that long ago.
  17. Great old-school game, really great... and the music is to die for! Agreed on the music. Only played the game once, can't remember much. Too bad current work in an office and the home computer setup pretty much prevent me from playing infinity engine games, as it feels like work.
  18. To be honest, I find this offensive. I keep getting this impression that there is a heavy bias from some, who try to categorize on nationality along with the implication that some how American is there fore inferior. I think this is wrong on many levels. One of the ironies of this post is that the reviewers, the journalists I know who work for these major publications are often times non-americans. Many of the major publications are multi-national. Game Spot for example operates in both the US and UK. Eurogamer gave the game a 7 out of ten, the German version an 8 out of 10. Reading the user reviews from the regions shows just as many varied responses as their North American counterparts. The point is that there is no great divide between the two continents, and it isnt so "black and white" what one can identify "american" reviews against those in europe, especially when the review sites you call American might have been written and reviewed by a European staff. :D More seriously, though, I'm staggered by the disparity in "general gaming" sites between the U.S. and Europe in this. Giantbomb pretty much mirrored IGN and Gamestop on the matter. European "general gaming" reviews are more in line with what the U.S. RPG sites are writing (AFAICT, as I'm not following TOO closely.)
  19. I've had the game lock up twice when opening the TV in a safe house (once in Saudi, once in Rome). PS3 version. Subtitles also get out of sync with what's coming from the TV, so these two might be related.
  20. In the Moscow safehouse, when you look out the window, I'm pretty sure you can see one of the Deus Vult guys standing in the next building.
  21. Not to lay a guilt trip or anything, but if you are thinking about getting it, why not pay full price? My reasoning here is that you are a member of the Obsidian community, you take part in these forums on a regular basis. If you enjoy that, then why not support the company that hosts these forums? I can see you not buying the game if it just doesn't interest you. But if it looks like a title you will get something out of, why not give it your full support? This. I spend so much time here it was an automatic preorder to me. Not to mention that the setting, premise etc. were right up my alley. The fact that it's a good game is a definite bonus.
  22. I don't see anything that makes him any more anime-ish than the drug dealer in the metro under Battery Park in DX 1. Wasn't so much comparing to DX 1, but you got a point there.
