I played through HotU as a pure fighter once and one-shotted Baalors with that +8 sword. Let's just say that *arcane* magic sucks balls in 3rd & 3.5 edition. Clerics filling their entire spellbook with Persistent Buffs are better than fighters and invulnerable against everything. Ask Kaelyn.

If you're going to play MOTB without importing, I'd pick either Barbarian or Cleric of Ilmater, becaue these classes get some unique content. I haven't played a monk myself, but from experiencing

It's likely only the final boss will be a huge dragon, identical to Akatosh from the end of Oblivion's main quest. The main quest in Skyrim could consist of becoming powerful enough to defeat it by gathering the necessary shouts.

Play Dark Messiah on Hard, that way you can't kick enemies to their death all the time. There are so many creative ways to kill enemies, using the kick all the time is pretty lame. At least try and finish the Temple of the Spider, it is the highlight of the game.

This game sounds similar to KGB from Cryo Interactive. It was an adventure game set in the final days of the SOviet Union, with similar theme & grim atmosphere.

There's certainly not much incentive for exploration unlike the first game. Most caves & buildings that aren't locked, contain nothing of worth. Ideally, the third game will combine the bigger emphasis on story of TW2 with the freeform exploration of TW1.

Melee isn't going to work in the beginning at all. Stick to bows & magic missile. In fact, melee isn't going to work until after level 15 or so. I noticed that levelling is much faster in DKS than the original ED in the beginning as well. Too many kiddies complained about getting raped by skeletons pretty hard once the world opened up, hence Larian softened things up a bit.

Also keep in mind you get tons of free skill & stat points for mindreading certain NPCs. This alone makes up for any loss in XP. If there's any skill that's completely worthless, it has to be Wisdom.

Those dragon shouts are supposed to be words in Draconic language, so it's pretty certain they're intelligent.

Baldur's Gate 2?

You seriously put 14 levels into mindread? It's one of the most useless skills in game. Not only are majority of quests are solvable without it, the XP-for-equipment trades will usually screw you over as they produce items for different classes. And even when mindread is at level 1 your XP debt is usually worth no more than few trash mob kills. Getting the best armour in ED requires mindreading. In the expansion you also need to mindread to get the complete set of the best armour for each class. It's also nice to be able to mindread everyone in the expansion when otherwise it would cost 10,000 XP at the very least, which you otherwise have to make up for by grinding through respawning mobs of undead.

Don't forget to mindread or you might miss out on quests. Also, max out this skill... at level 15 it costs 0 XP which is quite significant in the expansion.

Dragons look pretty underwhelming so far. They look like the ones from Divinity 2.

Combat seems to be a lot like: Hopefully the group tactics will be expanded over DA:O, because micro-managing looks like a nightmare when something awesome happens as soon as one gives out a command. I had no idea what the hell was going on.
