Is $4M enough?
Monte Carlo replied to Eternitude's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I remember Fallout 3 being advertised in the UK on bus-stops, trains, the Underground... Fallout. I always thought of it as edgy and subversive and there it was with what must have been a serious marketing budget. Since then we've got Skyrim TV ads (IIRC Dragon Age had one too) and Borderlands 2 sponsors TV shows. So AAA titles are in the advertising mainstream and PE won't be. It will be interesting to see what clever marketing ploys, that ain't eye-wateringly expensive, Obs comes up with. -
Yup, in a post in BSN. I'll post it if someone doesn't beat me to it, while I search(or not) for it. And Hepler hates the LoTR books! Great combo for a fantasy genre story with combat eh? I'll take your word for it. Dave is like a leitmotif of everything that went wrong with Bio. I remember him when he once sent me a personal email because I was having problems with a mod he made. Nicest guy. Then he morphs into Emo-Zilla. *sobs*

I don't like the name at all. Not that it's really very important. I'd like a large physically strong race that isn't dumb. Maybe almost spiritual and whimsical, as a counterpoint to their strength. A giant ogrish character with a big axe who takes time to play practical jokes, write poems and stops to enjoy the sunset. With his tongue in his cheek. The race might be famous for trickery, which manifests itself in an ambush-then-tanking combat style.

From a utility and character POV I liked the elf dude from BG1. He was a great archer / support guy, in fact he was almost too good. I also like the idea of a paladin who struggles a bit with the whole being disciplined schtick and is a touch seedy. Maybe drunk all the time. Anything but stoic and / or overly righteous.

Anti-Dragon Age 2?
Monte Carlo replied to Cultist's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
My main hope is that enough Bioware fans see the light and pick up PE and enjoy it. I would love to see the bar raised, for this little corner of gaming to take off again. Even to the extent that publishers can dump money into these non-AAA titles and see a good return. Of course, there is a subsection of EAWare fans who have gone mad and will only ever want diaper-sex romance syndrome. What will they do when EA finally takes Bio for that lonely walk in the woods with a pistol and a shovel? -
A decent scout / rogue who can provide skill monkey / ranged support please. Race not important.

1. The beginning. My character wakes up with a hangover. There are three hot elf chicks in my fur sleeping bag fighting over me. 2. Revelation: One of the elf chicks tries to kill me. :: DRAMA :: 3. I kill the elf chick with an empty wine bottle :: REGRET I loved her :: 4. I go to a tavern and meet a load of hard-as-nails adventurers. 5. They tell me all about their problems. I tell them to STFU, as (a) nothing is as tough as having to brain a hot elf chick with an empty bottle, and (b) there's fifteen levels of mega-dungeon to explore. 6. We go to the merchant and get seriously tooled-up: Note the Vorpal AR 15 in there. 7. Flashback involving hot elf chick (note - this is NOT a romance, it is a James Bond style moment of sexually-charged machismo charged with regret. It makes me feel deep) : 8. We explore the dungeon, get loot, kill stuff. 9. A key NPC betrays me, but I re-load and it's all good. 10. I meet an iconic bad guy and use my Charisma-dump Persuade skill to get him to kill himself. RARGH TOO CLEVAR FUR MEEEEE CHARISMA D00D!!!

Then it would be okay for me, why not? I am a bit puzzled, I merely stated what I would like to see for a change, as I think the typical political correctness medieval fantasy world with absolute gender-equality is a little overdone, that's all. But if they go that route I'll be fine... EDit: And what is fanservice-wish-fullfillment anyway? You *want* sexism so you can thwart it. If that ain't fanservice I don't know what is. You can't win - female warriors need to be challenging stereotypes by whupping male ass, attractive females *are* stereotypes and ugly wimmin are merely feeding the misogynistic women-as-the-other sociology bull****. Why not lets have CRPG Baywatch, where every character is smokin' hot?

So you want more fan service wish fulfilment in a world full of equally stereotypical sexist men. What if female soldiers are utterly normal?

OTOH you could stop kicking the dead horse, accept the direction the devs have stated vis a vis the depiction of women and spare us all your first-term gender studies BS.
