The game is absolutely *fantastic*. I'm completely hooked. One of those rare games you just wish would keep going and going (and it does, for a long time to be honest!).

O btw the music is good
Starwars replied to Longknife's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think the music is fantastic as well overall. I agree with PJ though that there are some tracks that kinda suffer from a poorer, synthesized sound. I think the Caed Nua theme is especailly noticeable here unfortunately. I know Justin commented on this elsewhere but it's also a shame that that theme couldn't play continously over the various locations inside Caed Nua. It's a bit annoying how it starts over. I also wish there was at least one more tavern music piece. I love the two that are in right now but yeah, it'd be nice to have more. And if we're doing "wishlist" stuff, I always liked in BG how cities (maybe even other areas? can't remember) had different music during night-time. I also want to bring attention to the *excellent* sound design as well. There was worry beforehand about the ambient sounds and such but I think PoE has done very well here. I play with headphones and the scenes feel wonderfully "full". A complaint I have is that some of the female characters (especially Grieving Mother) seem to have a lower recording quality or something, so that their 's' sounds sound really sharp to the ear. But overall, a big thumbs up for the audio in this game overall. The sound in these types of games is so important and I think PoE really shines in this area! -
Aloth voice actor
Starwars replied to drithius's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Was really surprised and impressed that it's the same guy who does both Aloth and Edér. That's very well done, some of the best in the game. -
Some kind of weather system would be awesome, yes! And I would also love NPCs with schedules.

Wait until morning?

It'd be very nice to have! EDIT: Of course, it may be problematic in regards to the Stronghold. -
Scouting mode question
Starwars replied to ambrusynev's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes, it's the Mechanics skill and you need to be in Scouting mode. -
I've only just gotten to Defiance Bay + some extra stuff so I've still a ways to go but... -More more more. I guess this come back to BG2. I hope OEI keeps the engine as it now that they've got everything in place (obviously upgrading to Unity 5 would be nice if possible) and just focus on creating content. PoE is really big already but yeah... would love it if they just completely knocked it out of the park with PoE2, make the biggest RPG EVAR! -Obviously related to the above but more companions is always nice. -Again, even more reactivity, also nice! -Many MORE enemy-types! -I would like for the map to be even more open. It feels like you kinda "snake" your way through a path in the game. I'd love for a more open feeling in the map progression, really being able to take off wherever you want. -I'd actually welcome LESS (yes, not more!) voiceacting. There's actually so much VA in the companions that it feels weird when they do have certain dialogues that aren't voiced. And besides, I just don't think the voices add that much given how the game presents itself. It's just not needed and kinda gets in the way. Instead, spend the VA money on... -... more music! So yeah, basically it's just... keep the framework as is. No huge graphical upgrades, or 'were going 3d!', type of stuff. Keep it largely the same rules-wise (additions of spells and abilities are always nice of course) and then just go to town on creating tons of content.

I would concur with Valsuelm. -
Diffuculty (Hard)
Starwars replied to Killyox's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There were some fights early on that I had problems with on Hard but that was solved by hiring an adventurer at the Inn. I kinda wish that Hard would be a *bit* harder so far to be honest. A curveball or two, even in or near the critical path can be fun if you ask me. It does feel slightly too easy for me even though, like PJ says, there are some fights that are quite enjoyable (and where one needs to be on one's toes). -
From playing the backer beta, I thought I would actually kinda like the stash, but after having played the full game I have to say that I would prefer an encumberance system. Unless you manually restrict yourself, there is just no thought to shift-clicking absolutely everything, and then shift-clicking it back into the shop interface and mass-selling everything. There is very little thought to looting now which I really don't like. You can just vacuum up everything you find in the world. Having some form of limit (not necessarily encumberance though I kinda like that) would make it feel a lot better in my opinion. Sure, if one has OCD one can still travel back and forth, but...

Review Watch?
Starwars replied to Fenwick's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Very positive reviews from Eurogamer and RPS also. -
Been playing some This War of Mine, mostly to just have something to play before PoE tomorrow. It is a very good game though.

I think it's easy to feel that it's a bit "unfair" that us backers who put money into the game, spent time here providing feedback and all that during development, played the backer beta and so on and so forth gets "put aside" a bit for some random streamer, some of which are basically clueless as to the game that has become so close to us. It's easy to feel entitled I think, I do as well. I don't disagree with the decision though as I want the game to do well and I think streaming beforehand via popular channels is a great source of "free" advertising basically. But it does irk me somewhat to see some random idiot (in my eyes of course, they tend to have followings) get to play the full game before *me*, (me me me! ) who scooped my hard-earned cash into it a couple of years back. It's silly but understandable I think.
-
Interestingly enough, I just got a load more work dumped on me for Tuesday and Wednesday. Which is actually kinda nice as it will keep me from the worst of the streaming madness. And then, I don't have any work planned for like two weeks from Thursday and onwards. Perfect to dig into PoE. And I've already warned my girlfriend.

[480] 3 'Final Journal of Jonas' items?
Starwars replied to Starwars's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Thanks cRichards! -
Dialog requirements
Starwars replied to DarkWanderer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If you are a Priest, you will choose a deity on character creation, one of which is Skaen. Sadly, I don't think it really affects that quest much (if at all) but it is nice that the game recognizes stuff like that anyways. -
Right now, it's really just digging my teeth into the actual *game*, beginning, middle and end with all it entails, after playing the backer beta for so long. As far as features, well, that's hard to pinpoint... I look forward to everything to do with reactivity and choices, the reputation stuff, solving things in different ways and so forth. Also, just soaking in the atmosphere of the beautiful art, sounds, music, the scope... all that stuff.
-
I'm sure this has been around before, but is there really supposed to be 3 copies of the 'Final Journal of Jonas' book? Seems pretty weird as it's a "personal" item and not a published book (I would assume). You can find one in Tryggvil's house and 2 down in the Skaenite dungeon.

I played pen and paper in my teens, which coincided with the release of Fallout. Though I'd played cRPGs before that, Fallout was the one that really hit it out of the park for me. I never enjoyed the BG's quite as much as some people here do but I still have a considerable amount of nostalgia for them as I played them to death way back when. It's weird how the IE games just managed to capture... something that was quite special. The feeling of adventure perhaps? Not sure. Been interested in RPGs ever since and, in many ways, the genre seems to be hitting a peak now for me because there are... well, a lot of them it feels. Some nostalgia-driven, some AAA. I dunno, it feels like exciting times. There is a drive to the genre again, and diversity.

Review Watch?

Gonna be a pain to avoid watching streams and such (and hopefully people won't spoil everything in forum thread titles as tend to happen sometimes). Just a bit longer...
