How is Tyranny compared to Deadfire?
mydnightscrivener replied to Verde's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)IMO Deadfire>Tyranny>POEI Tyranny had a lot of potentially but towards the end felled rushed and much content veered towards trash mobbing. A lot of loose ends left untied. IMO if Tyranny II never gets made it would be a MAJOR shame as it has the potential to be better than the POE series. Bugs are minor (I guess, by Obsidian standards )

What's your Favorite Romance character?
mydnightscrivener replied to michel.montenegro's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)Mirke and Ydwin. Too bad they are not options.

Can we agree that Rogues, Monks, and Wizards are the top 3 classes?
Rogue is the best multiclass.

Grimoire Not Listing Spells

Turn based and success
mydnightscrivener replied to juanval's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Its misleading to look at the added sales from TB and conclude that TB is more profitable, since you don't know how many of the original adopters would have not signed on if it was RtWP. While I prefer, for Deadfire at least, slow mode rather than turn based, if PoE3 was done for turn based from the get go (reduce number of fights, but increase the quality of fights, properly integrated initiative system) it has a lot of potential.

Whispers Endless Paths on Shadowdancer
So I know I'm late to the party, but have been playing Whispers of the Endless Paths on a Shadowdancer (Hellwalker + Trickster). On the one hand the base damage has been horrible. On the other hand, once I upgraded it with Run Through I've had heaps of fun doing this: Need: Swift Furry Enduring Dance Backstab Cast defensive spells from trickster if needed, and then fight safely with your reach weapon while Dance charges up, or just drop some confuse/dazzling lights. Then shadow beyond and Run Through something in the backline. Sometimes you can hit multiple targets as well due to the arc from whispers. I've been able to one shot kill very reliably with this (make sure you have high perception/accuracy) since it tends to generate multiple hits from swift flurry. I haven't even gotten to heartbeat drumming yet. My build is probably not optimal for damage (assassin will probably be more reliable and easier) but I like the flexibility of a trickster.

Priest weak?
mydnightscrivener replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)'Vancian' casters in generally are very powerful in Deadfire, because they typically start every combat by casting their most powerful spell. While the priest, being defensive oriented, does not 'wow', as much as the wizard, they make up for it by being more useful in drawn out battles, particularly against bosses.

Just bought the Obsidian Deadfire package from GOG...

4.1 Release time? (turn based patch)
mydnightscrivener replied to Crothu's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Gog patches typically take longer, and sometimes the patch itself is poorly implemented in Gog and needs to be updated.

Pillars of Eternity 3 Companions
mydnightscrivener replied to Hacros's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)Durance loses his priest powers and becomes a barbarian/monk.... ...and makes babies with Grieving Mother. Tekehu is stuck in shark form permanently. Xoti's dark form is a prominent villain/anti-hero. Aloth's alternate personality is extracted as an actual companion. Solaufein becomes a playable companion

TURN BASED combat in Deadfire?!
mydnightscrivener replied to Silvaren's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Temple of Elemental Evil does D&D-style turn based the best and has yet to be toppled. We shall see. If POEII manages that level of engaging combat it will enter my top 10 RPGs of all time

TURN BASED combat in Deadfire?!
mydnightscrivener replied to Silvaren's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)This is amazing. I just hope it doesn't increase game time considerably (the advantage of real time was you could auto-play through trash mobs). I can see this being a huge buff to one-shot aoe spells and abilities. Does quickness or perception add to initiative?

Xoti
mydnightscrivener replied to daven's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)I love Xoti because she's an unrealistic stereotype. I find Maya and Pallegina boring because of their ties to the factions and their trying to be 'realistic'.

What faction did you like it most?
mydnightscrivener replied to juanval's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Principi are the most fun. Vailian the most interesting. Huana the one that makes the most sense for a 'good' playthrough.

Who has finished the game?
mydnightscrivener replied to daven's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)When games add time pressure people moan (see Mask of the Betrayer and Fallout 1). When games don't have any time pressure it seems people moan as well Deadfire is good. Beast of Winter is great. Finished the whole campaign twice already. Waiting for final expansion to finish it a 3rd time. PoE1 was nice, but the original campaign bored me senseless. Deadfire is no BG2 but it sure beats BG1 IMO. Deadfire's portrayal of the Gods is rather childish, but I like the overall "lack of agency" the Watcher has. Yes, it is actually refreshing!

Wael is a resentful bastard
mydnightscrivener replied to AeonsLegend's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)Eothas and Berath were pretty cool. Ondra turned out nicer than expected, Skaen had no personality aside from tokenary evil. Woedica made sense but being the baddie from Part 1 means no one wants to root for her anyway. Hylea is classic goodie so not much there too. Galawain was filler. Rymgard is potentially interesting but role is too small. Magran's character is too inconsistent. Wael turned out to be disappointing, for someone who's supposed to be all about mystery.

Should there have been a mid-game detour like the Underdark? (BG2 and POE2 spoilers)
mydnightscrivener replied to Mallard's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)Would really elevate the game. With no hub to return to, etc it would give in an entirely different feel, focus on the plot/story etc. Admittedly BG2's section may be too long (spellhold is really boring, but underdark was awesome); PS: T was pretty awesome too. Also allows the world to change/be different when you return. Emerging from underdark was such a relief, just like returning to Sigil.

Question about Ancestor's Honor
mydnightscrivener replied to AgentTBC's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Basically useless unless changed to allow it to be used in addition to the standard empower usage. What's sad is Cipher's already have such a limited pool of useful spells.

Hopefully POE3 will do a better job of side quest/main story pacing and integration
mydnightscrivener replied to Verde's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)Yes while I think the overall plot is fine, it is rather 'lazy'. BGII's spellhold and underdark sequence is so memorable because of the total break from 'do whatever you look' to 'here's this awesome sequence'. Who cares if it's linear?
