Del Toro And Cameron to shoot 'Mountains Of Madness' movie
mr insomniac replied to Purkake's topic in Way Off-Topic
I'm stoked for this movie. I loved Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy movies, and Mountains of Madness was the first Lovecraft story I read, and still my favourite, after Shadows Over Innsmouth. EDIT: oops. -
What they'll have is better than nothing at all. Still unsure about DA2, but I won't write it off as a loss yet.

Playing through Origins again now, and I have to say the top-down view makes a big difference. Unless Bio comes up with a better way of selecting targets or keeping your party members out of the way when you're trying to click on some loot or open a door, I say keep it.

Zero interest in Starcraft 2, but Gorth's excitement about Space Rangers 2 has me intrigued. I looked it up on Gamestop's website and it seems like a game I might enjoy, and it's only a 1.18 Gb download too. Hmm... In the meantime, with the release of the 1.04 patch, I've been playing DA:O again, with the intention of finally getting around to playing through both Awakening and the DLCs I haven't gotten around to yet.

I've mostly enjoyed Bio's games games over the years, so I'm still interested, but given the info released so far, this isn't a pre-order or day one purchase for me. If the narration is done similar to AP, where narrator = Leland, that might not be so bad. I certainly enjoyed Leland's foreshadowing of key events, and that I was given some leeway in how those events played out.

Apocalypto on Blu-Ray. Amazing film, and better than I had expected going in. . Also Crank and Crank 2: High Voltage. Statham's best since Snatch and Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, although that isn't saying much. Still, If there isn't a Crank 3, it'll be a tragedy.

How is that possible on NWN2? Unless you've somehow built amazingly inept characters by coincidence... City Watch quests? Thieves warehouse/Fihelis estate with the 50 million amazing invisible thieves? That warehouse was truly frustrating. As Han Solo said, I prefer a straight fight to all this sneakin' around. It's too bad, cuz I was kinda having fun up until then. Instead I got hit with IWD2 Ice Temple flashbacks, and stopped playing. Twice. Maybe someday when I've played the hell out of all the other games I'm interested in, I'll try NWN2 a third time. EDIT: oops. in the meantime, I've just started playing Singularity. Not that far into it yet. Nothing really stands out to make it a great game yet, but it has potential.

Watched Boondock Saints (Absolutely brilliant), Unthinkable (Sam Jackson good as always), and Green Zone (Not bad, not great).

dunno... am actually looking forward to the decade aspect. in a typical crpg your character goes from being an incompetent b00b who has trouble dispatching the rats in a tavern cellar, to world-saving demi-god in a matter o' weeks/months. if bioware can find an elegant way to embrace a more plausible time-frame for our inevitably epic ascension, we is gonna be appreciative rather than dismissive. HA! Good Fun! At least you get the fun of building your character and a sense of accomplishment along the way, while he/she goes from incompetent b00b to world-saving demigod. I'd rather Bio not take that away from me by having the narrator(s) tell me what happens from time to time in order to fill gaps. As you say, if it's done in an elegant and plausible way then great, I'm all for it as well. I just worry that it won't be.

What worries me about this is, are we going to see from the narrator: "and after Hawke accomplished x he went under the radar for awhile, now we skip ahead six months to a time when Hawke resurfaces and this is what happened next..." The game spans ten years, and if that's how it's done... meh. I'd rather have one continuous adventure.

No matter which origin you picked in DA:O you had a fixed last name anyway, so it's not that big a deal. Personally I didn't mind the shoehorning of any given origin into the main storyline; it had to be done at some point. I just wish there were more references or acknowledgements or consequences to your particular origin throughout the game. Is this official? Please say no.

C&VG: Sega rules out Alpha Protocol sequel
mr insomniac replied to funcroc's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Thorton's better than Shepard: 1. With Thorton, every time combat starts I hear Tenacious D's Karate in my head. 2. Thorton does almost all his missions by himself. 3. 4 chicks in the same game. -

Well I'm very disappointed. Everything about AP is too interesting to let it go as a one-off. I want more, dammit. -
Ultima 6 Project (U VI remake) V1.0 released!
mr insomniac replied to Jaesun's topic in Computer and Console
You will have an absolute blast with Lazarus. Music, dialogues, everything is just done so well. Yep, the Intro brought back many memories and I ended up staying up way too late last night wandering the forest around Iolo's hut. They were both good games, but I preferred V for all its improvements in dialogue and being able to aim on a diagonal with a ranged attack Not to mention the sheer size of the world. After playing IV, Britannia really came to life. Eight 5.25 floppies for the C64. It was awesome. Anyway, not a remake, but... Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar -
Ultima 6 Project (U VI remake) V1.0 released!

It is possible that it will work with Windows7 64bit. I played through it just fine 2-3 weeks ago after changing the Dungeon Siege configuration around a bit. However, in searching for a solution to get it working it did seem that there were some folks who couldn't get it to run in a playable state.. so.. disclaimer: "Your results may vary." Well that's what I get for just accepting that it won't work without even trying it first. I googled this link , installed the game, followed the instructions -- with one exception: I did not have to install directx 9.0c. Running with directx 11 and so far so good. I still get a "this program has known compatibility issues" popup on start up, but I can just ignore that. I haven't actually begun playing it yet, still on the character creation screen, but the only issue as yet is the crappy resolution. Thanks LostStraw. EDIT: Okay I've installed Ultima V. What an awesome treat to replay this game! And so far things are working without a hitch. -

According to the Microsoft website, Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna is not compatible with Win7 64-bit. Bah. -
Feargus Urquhart Gamebanshee interview
mr insomniac replied to WorstUsernameEver's topic in Obsidian General
He makes an interesting point about it, though, one for which the reviewers are to blame. For example, some reviewers dismissed minigames as terrible, without even trying the in-game methods - which were explained in the graybox tutorial - of bypassing them. So instead of saying, "yeah the minigame is a pain in the ass, but you can get around it by using an EMP," the reviewer leaves it at, "yeah the minigames are a pain in the ass," and that's all people will read. EDIT: Tped this in reply to Wrath of Dagon. Watching the Jays/Yanks game at the same time. -
Calgary's got a little over 2 million in cap space with 19 players under contract. Gotta think they'll be looking to deal big time before summer is over. I'm excited the Leafs picked up Versteeg, and a little less excited they got Colby Armstrong, but only a little. The last couple seasons, whenever the Leafs played the Thrashers, he always seemed to be in the play, around the puck, in front of the net. Now he plays for my team.

In another thread someone suggested a Chuck Norris/Ninja build, with maxed toughness, MA, and stealth, and 10 ranks of tech. I've just unlocked Veteran and I'm trying this out in my current game. I haven't built a stealth character in any previous playthroughs, so I'm finding it to be a challenge, but a fun one. I'm considering maybe a couple ranks of shotgun in case things get messy.

Yeah I noticed that too, not always but sometimes. He'd even be up on the second floor at times, then bam, he's right on my heels as I try to move to different cover.

Alan Parker- 1 Albatross- 16 Conrad Marburg- 9 (-1) Henry Leland- 11 Hong Shi- 11 Konstantin Brayko- 17 Mina Tang- 9 Omen Deng- 21 Ronald Sung- 6 SIE- 21 Scarlet Lake- 24 Sis- 21 Steven Heck- 21 (+1) EDIT: I think I screwed up the numbers somewhere in my original post. Sorry everyone, got it straightened out now.

That's how I beat Brayko as well, along with a few well-timed (read: damn lucky) chainshots.
