Well put.

I'm still maintaining a wait-and-see attitude about Bethesda's Fallout game, but dayum... <curses Caen again> Also liked what was said about whether there can be too much text in a game.

Kotor 2 dosnt make sense
mr insomniac replied to zerogx2000's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Anybody else notice how games/books/movies usually have a triumphant finish, only to have the universe fall apart by the time of the sequel, no matter how victorious they were in the 1st? (The Empire Strikes Back screams out to me at that one...) It made it seem that way, but like every other sequel after a supreme victory, the goodguys were way weaker than they were humble enough to admit, and they let a lot of the Sith disappear, only to have them come back and destroy the Jedi planets at a time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Emperor, after episode 3, had Luke and Leia's entire lifetime and the entire resources of his "new" Empire to tighten his grip on the Galaxy. The Death Star was just one aspect of the Empire's military might. In episode 4 I got the impression that the rebellion threw everything they had into destroying the Death Star. The victory enabled the rebellion to grow further, but it still couldn't grow openly. Again, in episodes 5 and 6 I had the feeling that the rebellion was throwing everything they had into fighting the Empire, but the Empire was never doing the same. -
^ that says it all. Condolences to you and your family.

Agreed! Seeing the non-human Jedis and Darth Maul of course, in Episodes 1-3 was pretty cool, I thought. But I dunno, unless the alien races have some affinity for the Force that humans don't, I wonder at the value of it, except to look cool. -

exactly. I mean, if they wanted to use bloodlines (your father, uncle, etc was a force sensitive/Jedi/fallen Jedi/etc) as backstory, then fine. but if your genetic makeup has NO BEARING on the story/backstory, then it is simply not excusable to not have that choice. Jedi Academy allows you to play a non-human as PC. It is probably the first Jedi game to do so. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well it's not like the devs weren't rushed or anything. I'm sure they had all kinds of time, once the majority of the game was complete, and the majority of bugs were found and eradicated, to devote to giving us non-human choices for the Exile. Having said that, if it's feasible, then yes I'd like the option to play a non-human protagonist in K3 as well. But who knows, depending on how big a part the Exile plays in K3 we may find out more about her backstory then. -

Never got the training dialogues with Bao-Dur, even though I'm pretty sure I did all the influence stuff with him. Actually all the training dialogues with my party occured pretty late, and I pretty much took Visas/Disciple and Kreia with me wherever I had to go.... have to try the planets in a different order next time. -
That makes sense, yes. And it's possible Bastilia's just a nag, like her mother - the darkside was just an excuse. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's also possible, yup. :D
-
I'm not feeling justice in that example, I'm feeling anger and frustration.
-
Perhaps a sense of justice. Look at Qui-Gon in Episode 1, he left Anakin's mother behind, although no doubt he did feel sympathy and could have easily taken them both along with him. He did what was "right", at least right according to slaver laws (or whatever) on Tatooine at the time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Justice is also an emotion, maybe u were thinking about the Law?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Justice is an emotion?

My take on it is, the Jedi Code of "There is no emotion, there is peace," is something that a Jedi strives to maintain every day. It's something to try and live by, it's not like a force power that you "get" once you become a Jedi. Vader tells luke to give into his feelings, because doing so makes it easier for Luke to succumb to the darkside, which is what Vader wants. Bastila constantly nags Revan about it, because she knows who he really is and doesn't want him to become a dark lord again. What Obi-Wan said was correct...from a certain point of view. Obi-Wan's intent was for Luke to open himself to the Force and reach out with his perceptions, not his emotions... but watching the movie, don't you think it just sounds better than having him say, "Reach out with your perceptions Luke." ?

The events of the Mandolorian war are more than Revan. KOTOR is really all about Bastila, the whole game revolves around her. KOTOR II is about coming to terms with your past. Something that isnt going to be an issue if you don't have one (in the sense that your not a pregnerated character). There is a huge ammount of cleaning up to do in the Galaxy and thats where a less "godly" character can make a difference. Not running off to Sith space to fight some even more "godly" Sith. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In the plot progression between I and II, Obsidian's writers chose to tie the Exile to Revan, in that Revan is the reason behind the Exile's being in the Mandalorian Wars at all. They could have come up with something else to explain the Exile being the wound in the Force that she is, but why should they? It was cool the way they did it. It gave them lots of K1 elements to use, eg: The Ebon Hawk, Carth, HK-47, T3-43's whole thing with knowing where the Ebon Hawk has been during the time between K1 and2... which is another point. Since Obsidian never got to actually finish the game, we'll never know where the Ebon Hawk was, or maybe we weren't meant to know until K3. Whoever writes K3 should finish the story. K3's gotta have the protagonist be a Jedi, and have lightsabers and Force Powers and all that stuff, right? Why ignore all that potential plot material? Tie the new protagonist to the first two games somehow, and encounter Revan and the Exile at the end when all the truths are revealed. Oh, K1 is about Bastila in the same way Episodes 4-6 are about Luke -

Obsidian did a good job of keeping them just in the picture. But without having any sort of real effect on the game they wrote. In many ways you could consider most of it easter eggs for people who played KOTOR rather than defining the story. You have to remember that your not just making a game for people who played KOTOR/II. But you also want a game that someone can pick up and play and make sense of without having played any of the other games. Only an addon should have for a prerequistite playing the game (since the game would be required to run it anyway). Off fighting the true Sith should keep them both out of the way in the same manner. Although your still going to have to do all that LS/DS Male/Female alternate stuff and thus waste time and energy you could be devoting to KIII in it's own right. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Had to go to work, so I couldn't really reply earlier. Agreed that Obsidian did a good job, but Revan is still the whole reason for the Exile being what she is. Revan and Malak went awol from the Jedi Council to fight the Mandalorians, and the Exile was one who followed them, and what happened to her, happened because of that. Then as the game builds toward the end, its not hard to guess is still going to be a key figure in the future, assuming of course that in K3 (also assuming the game will be made at all), the protagonist's eventual destination is an encounter with the True Sith... and why wouldn't it be? Kreia outright stated that the Sith we had been battling were as nothing compared to the True Sith. Now, I dunno about anyone else, but I'm kinda curious to meet these guys and find out the difference for myself. Also, when you think of how the plot has progressed from I to II, I have to ask what else is left? -

Well, by the end of the game the protagonist would be their equal (I would think). Obsidian could have killed Revan off in TSL, with a few references to what happened in the time between the two games, but they didn't. He/She is in the Great I-Don't-Know, same with the Exile. Basically Revan is tying the whole series together, so that character pretty much has to be in the third installment. -

Maybe they shouldn't have a very big role in the story until the very end. -
Gotta go with blues, the likes of clapton and john lee hooker and so many others. Although I do like some jazz as well.
