  1. Vader was trying a 1 1/2 twist and ...well... failed to stick the landing.
  2. As a side-note, at one point in my game -- I just finished TSL for the first time -- there was a small cutscene of G0T0 destroying that little droid onboard the Ebon Hawk, then in the next scene, the droid was floating back towards Bao-dur at the rear of the ship.
  3. I'm gonna be one of those few that say the setting rocked. I wish they had been able to make more use of some of the things that made it different, like the factions, and portals, and I wish we could have seen more of Sigil, and more of the Planes, and more... everything. Ah well, it's too bad so many people complained about the fact that you couldn't have traditional armour, and there were no swords, etc. and many of the same people say they are tired of the traditional Forgotten Realms type fantasy setting, and want something different. I always enjoyed the game for what it did have.. alot of differences.
  4. Yeah, but he reminded me of Subotai from Conan The Barbarian, which I thought was kinda cool. I dunno, I just had a blind spot I guess. But even when it was finally revealed, I kept thinking he'd turn his back on Irenicus and join me anyway. Grrrrr.
  5. Malak was cool, but he was a pansy when it came to a fight. If he didn't have a continuing source of vitality I would have killed him in 30 seconds instead of two minutes. [/slight exxageration] That said, you can't really compare the Vader of episode 3 to Malak, because when you meet Malak he's at the height of his *cough* powers. In episode 3 Vader was newly come to the dark side. Have them face off when he's also at the height of his power as well, and he'd win -- no contest.
  6. A mission in Myth: The Fallen Lords (the name escapes me), where I had to defend a hilltop against wave after wave of bad guys with a handful of archers and swordsmen, because rain caused my explosives to only work about 1/3 of the time. The entire Fortress of Regrets sequence in Planescape: Torment, from conversations with my companions just before stepping through the entrance portal to the rooftop. Yoshimo in Baldur's Gate 2 ... I never saw it coming. It really pissed me off.
  7. Just want to say thanks for the tips to those who replied. I went back to a previous save, just before going to the yacht, and this time used Kreia and T3, and they're breezing through the droids like they weren't even there.
  8. Maybe they don't have to cut the dialogue in half -- cut some of it, yeah, I guess. But maybe they could get away with changing the presentation. Have more cutscenes, FMVs, and voice-acting to replace the text. As an example, each of the Sensory Stone anecdotes could be a FMV. That would be sweet.
  9. Yep true enough. Let me rephrase: "it's clear I made a very difficult choice with Atton and Mira" T3 would be better in this case cuz he's already equipped with better droid-busting gear, and he's got the skills... and Kreia's got some force powers that could help out. At this point in my game Atton and Mira aren't well-suited.
  10. More that I think about it, it actually kinda makes sense that they do this. Gives the game that "endless hordes of hell who don't care about how many losses they suffer" kinda feel.
  11. Thanks for all the replies. Never thought of going with T3, and I'll probably have to backtrack a bit to make sure Kreia has some good equipment. I'll give it a shot though, since it's clear I made a bad choice with Atton and Mira.
  12. Hmm, I got a program from that droid, if that's the same droid... "shutdown" or "overload" I think it was, and yeah I'm think I might need Kreia for this one. But I'm sure I also need someone with some decent security and computer skills as well. I haven't been able to make Atton a Jedi yet, I think I messed up somewhere with his influence. Of course I haven't had much player control over the exile lately either, heh.
  13. Never played Diablo. Got almost to the end of the first chapter of Diablo II, but it was a struggle to get that far. All I could think was, "okay is this it??" Meh.
  14. So... the exile has been taken aboard Goto's yacht. I chose Atton and Mira to rescue her, but they are failing miserably. The big droids I can handle, I know the trick of taking out the maintenance droids first, but I never counted on floating flame-throwing BBQ'ing battle bowling balls. T3 used all my ion grenades to get past those 3 HK's in the droid warehouse, and he's also armed with the only Ion blaster I have. Could go back to an earlier save and unequip the blaster once that fight is over, making it available to Atton, I guess. That would give me something. I, erm, heard somewhere that Mira can become a Jedi later, so I haven't levelled her up very much... but maybe someone with some force powers would be a better choice for the rescue operation. Any strategy tips? Are those explosive rockets that Mira can use any good? I've got a few of those.
  15. :D I heard that
  16. Guido Henkel/Adam Heine for Torment II
  17. They were CRPGs for their day and age, but their day has long since past. The genre has evolved in case you didn't noticed. If a gold box styled game tried to come out today it wouldn't be a CRPG by today's standard. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sure they would be. Imho, technical limitations were the only things keeping the developers from adding as much depth and detail as they may have wanted. That said, games like Curse of the Azure Bonds and Champions of Krynn had fairly detailed stories, from what I remember. Plus they were based on AD&D rules -- can't get much more RPG than that. The first game that really started to get away from that was Hillsfar, and that was a truly awful game. I'd say the old goldbox games would be alot like the IWD series.
  18. I much prefer seeing the way the games change based on my character's influence within it, whether through dialogues or plot development choices, and then have my character's ability to influence the game grow, based on those changes. Still, it is usually a game design that your character must have proper stats to have that influence in the first place... at least in the games I've played.
  19. ^ I dunno, I think Yoda and Obi-Wan embody the light-side of the force this way. They take the longer view of things and see that sometimes not acting is the best course of action. Not to say that they are infallible, but, again as an example, they could have regrouped and gone after Palpatine again right away, and perhaps defeated him, but then who knows what would happen. Instead they chose to disappear and to wait 17 years or so, until Luke and Leia matured, and in the meantime let the galaxy be ruled by Palpatine and Vader. And during those 17 or so years, the rebellion was seeded and was ultimately victorious. Remember also how they cautioned Luke not to rush off into a premature encounter with Vader. Luke ended up failing to save Han, and almost died himself in the process.
  20. I'm too lazy to go back and look it up, but someone mentioned how they would use their darkside powers to carve out a little chunk of the galaxy for themselves, and then sit back and rule that, studying the darkside and growing more powerful. This shows where the darkside fails. As an example, I'll use Anakin/Darth in episode 3. Haunted by visions of Padme's death, he believed Palpatine knew of a way to save her life and would teach it to him if Anakin became his apprentice. At first, this was his only reason to "use" the dark side. As the film progressed, we see Anakin going further and further down the dark path, and then, in his last conversation with Padme, instead of being remorseful and saying things like, "I only wanted to save you," and running away from it all when she suggested it -- as he should have done if she was truly all he cared about -- Anakin instead starts talking about how they could rule the galaxy, make the changes they want, bring order and peace blah blah blah and how no one was powerful enough to stop him. Anakin became greedy and ambitious, which is what I believe will happen to the poster above as well. After carving out a chunk of the galaxy, pretty soon this person will think, "hey that chunk of the galaxy over there looks pretty good. I want it." And in their mind they will be doing the "right" thing when in fact all they are doing is destroying greed and inhibiting growth to feed their own ambition. IMHO, this is the nature of all Sith and the overall effect of the corruption of the darkside.
  21. There was a bug with the Ice Knife spell, which is supposed to temporarily penalize to-hit rolls, but ends up having a permanent effect. Would happen whether it was cast on the affected character, or that character stepped on a "knife" that had been cast but missed. Common solution was the well-timed assassination. Downloading this fixpack cured that bug, among others.
  22. Wasn't the novelization of PS:T loosely based on pre-release material? Thought I remembered reading that somewhere. It still was pretty bad, in any case.
  23. Still have good memories of Duke 3D though. Was the first FPS I played and deathmatches were fun. Doesn't mean I'm gonna buy the game on release day or anything, unless it really is something special.
