I mean... during the upcoming patch they're going to allow you to skip the intro up to the character creation screen so theres that. I don't think you should skip past the intro area at the beach though. Notably because your actions after the character creator up to Port Maje can affect your gameplay in different ways. 1. Your choices with Eder: he can be dead from POE1, he can be rejected from your team, or he can join your team as a Fighter/Rogue/Swashbuckler. 2. You can potentially lose all crewmates except Eld Engrim before entering Port Maje. The lady who got stuck at the barrel can either die during the shipbattle or be left to die by the PC, Chitupec can be left to die at sea or saved at the cost of some unique items, and the Drawf can die if you fail to deal with the traps properly. Because theres a number of different outcomes during the intro area, I don't think skipping pass it would be a good idea. At least on the bright side, they will definitely allow players to skip to character creation.

Hawk companion for Rangers?
Hamhaus replied to CENIC's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire: Modding (Spoiler Warning!)
I think Lore-wise Hawk companions are exclusively War-Hawks that are trained in Rauatai and given to the best of Rauataian Rangers, perhaps it's not something that is common in any other faction. Similar to how White Wolf companions are exclusive to rangers from Naasitaq or it's neighboring states. Other available animal companions are probably common throughout Eora, so that's why they can be chosen by PC or custom characters (probably). -
Pillars of Eternity: Pen and Paper Starter Guide
Hamhaus replied to hamskii's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
In the Steam files -> common , under the Pillars of Eternity Deadfire folder. You can find The Pen & Paper Guide, The Deadfire Guide book and The Deadfire Map, even POE Deadfire soundtracks all in there. -
The Explosives skill on the wiki page states "The Explosives skill covers the use of bombs, noisemakers, and similar devices. When throwing explosives, this skill is used to prevent unfortunate mishaps. The more powerful the explosive, the higher the risk." So a character can just slip in a bomb safely get away with a successful bomb assassination with no need for explosive skill right?

I'm interested in trying out a play through where I also choose a class that most fits my personality, and it comes down to these 2 choices. I want to create a melee 2H sword character that focuses on DD in 1v1 engagements, and I don't mind crippling or backstabbing opponents. So I'm wondering which provides a better damage output? a single-class Devoted or Devoted multi-classed with Rogue? I thought about having an Assassin subclass but I figured the assassin subclass works better with dual weapons or multi classing with something else, no subclass seems to offer me more freedom in play-style.

I'd say if you want a Tank, raise that RES to 16 But if you want a Melee DD or off-tank, put that at 10 because you don't want deflection penalties. If you plan a glass cannon back row caster or ranger, then around RES 6-8 should still be considered, you'd never know when enemies would outnumber you're party (Dumping RES is very risky).

Agreed with Cenar, picking Black Jacket Subclass makes switching weapons faster, so you can dish out pistol damage quicker and carry up to 8 of them. As for the multiclass, I think sharpshooter ranger might be better than assassin or ghost heart? Mostly due to the PEN bonus from sharpshooter, the companion can just help you dish out damage or make sure you don't get engaged. Ghost Heart isn't really designed to not use animal companions, moreso it's designed so you don't have to worry about the companion fainting or getting stuck on engagement. The assassin bonus only helps when you go into stealth, which is only going to help at the starting attack in each fight, the sharpshooter bonus works as long as you got guns loaded. EDIT: you also got only 8 bullets max to spare before having to reload so to make those bullets count, Marks and buffs are very beneficial. But if I have to choose 1 of 2 choices you've given, I'd take Assassin Devoted (buffs + restealth)

macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB Crash at loading screen after the prelude/memory sequence. Although since this problem seems to be an issue during the beta and wasn't solved, I hope this problem isn't the start of other issues just waiting to be discovered in the Mac port. Thanks for looking into this.

Portraits II
Hamhaus replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
So I was checking the portraits in the game files, and it seems that the sm.png portraits are in 76x96 dimension. Currently the sm.png custom portraits I'm using are 210x265. Do I need to rescale it to 76x96? or will the game scale the sm.png on it's own? (cuz rescaling each portrait, while not an issue, is gonna be a hassle lol) -
I'm pretty bad with computer/tech knowledge so I'd like to ask if my computer meets the minimum requirements to run Deadfire. I only recently realized that the spec requirements for Mac seem to have changed so this ended up getting me worried. My specs are as follows macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB 8GB RAM Minimum Requirements are as follows OS X 10.12.6 Sierra 64-bit or newer Intel Core i5-4570S @ 2.9 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GT750M 8 GB RAM 45 GB of available hard drive space I'm not sure about whether or not my computer's Graphics or Processor power is good enough to run Deadfire. Can anyone help me wipe away my worries?

Saw this from Cohh's videos, at the end of the video is a Naval battle. This is what I can figure out so far with the naval fights: The compass shows your ship in the middle and it's position and distance to the enemy ship which is on the circumference of the compass. Because the canoons are fired from the side, it's probably good to have long ranged cannons on one side and short ranged ones on the other. I'm guessing that staying in a perpendicular position from the other ship would slightly reduce the damage inflicted, and being in a parallel position would cause more damage when cannons are fired. If things get bad there's the option of sailing towards the enemy ship and hit the deck. and it seems that damage to the ship can mess with the ship's mobility (like sails being burnt, hindering any turning). That's all I can gather so far.

Why not try to balance both out? with a bit more focus on Might/INT you can set CON to 8 and RES/PER to 10 maybe a stat spread like this M 16 C 8 D 16 P 10 I 18 R 10 INT is probably most important here (Duration and AOE size) and a balance between casting speed and damage. Picking up Rapid Casting would help a lot too. I'd set PER and RES to 10 because casting speed is more important here, but you don't want terrible accuracy or to be too squishy either. CON to 8 if you're not gonna tank anything at the front.

I liked the idea and toyed around a bit with it. It is a viable pick but not overly powerful. It's pretty versatile though. Firebrand per se is not very powerful and I would not recommend it in its current state, but I found out the following: Choose Scion of Flame + Heart of The Storm (useful anyways because of your elemental spells), shift into Storm Blight and do Flames of Devotion: you will have +2 PEN because Blight's attacks are stirm based and FoD is fire based. Pretty cool. Also the jump gets that bonus. If you only attack one enemy both (initial attack und jump) will hit him. Unfortunately with normal attacks under Eternal Devotion you ony get the bonus from Heart of the Storm. It also doesn't help to pick Widstrike Burn instead of Shock. A Bleak Walker/Fury gets +3 PEN from Scion of Flame, Spirit of Decay and Heart of the Storm when executing FoD. So all in all you can make this into a decent spellcaster with healing powers and good weapon damage. Too bad White Flames would trigger twice with dual wielding. THe jump of the Blight form unfortunately doesn't trigger White Flames a second time. oof, good thing you told me about Firebrand, I did a bit of searching and saw the thread on nerfed summoned weapons. I guess I'll have to find a unique weapon and hope it has fire enchantment so I get more use out of Scion of Flame lol. Thanks for the input!

Hello there! I'd like to ask what everyone thinks about the following build for a Paladin + Druid multiclass Kind Wayfarer + Fury 2H-Greatsword Uses Firebrand alongside passives like Scion of Flame and actives like Flames of Devotion and Zealous Focus to increase the damage output. And transform into a Storm Blight to deal damage to Enemies that have a stronger resistance to Fire and/or Slash (Plated armor enemies for ex.). The spirit shifted form is powered by passives like Wild Strike shock and shock spells like Returning Storm. Uses Lay on Hands whenever healing is needed. I reckon the following stats should be ok... M 16 C 8 D 10 P 16 I 18 R 10 I'm open to suggestions, is this a decent build or should I adjust it or scrap it altogether? (this idea actually started from mixing a Devoted and Lifegiver but I realized the Devoted subclass hinders the damage output when spirit shifted)
