I've considered Psychonauts, but I didn't like the demo too much. hmmm Edit: I'm now back to playing Shadow Hearts. Fine game, but it doesn't grip me at all, so I'm kind of trodding through it.

If something is important in that sense, that usually means it is good though, right? People still talk Doom because while HL and so forth may have refined the gameplay, they still aren't appreciably different. They certainly do look better, no doubt, but graphics are really of no consequence in this sense because newer games will always look better due to the advancing technology. The physics implementations that are possible now are also cool, but that is still a refinement of the core gameplay. It means it was good, not that it still is. A newer game that refines the gameplay still improves upon the game and is inherently a better game for that improvement. This, plus newer features, constitutes an appreciable difference. Scripted events, friendly AI, puzzles, are all things not even included in Doom that help make Half-Life "appreciably" different and a better game than Doom is. And this is beside the fact that what you are trying to attribute to Doom actually belongs to Wolfenstein 3D and the main reason people mentioned Doom instead of Wolfenstein 3D is that Doom is considered a better game.

Says a lot about its importance, nothing else.

Could someone please explain to me how being influential or important qualifies it to be among the best games? It's like confusing Best Actor with Lifetime Achievement. Qualifying as "Best Game of All Time" should imply that it is a terrific game, even by today's standards, not merely influential or important or best once upon a time. Doom is drastically dated, the original Half-Life less so, but still a bit dated, and not merely in the graphical department, but in the gameplay.

He's a vehicle. He defends the president because he believes in the constitution. He defends Baltar because he believes in the system. He lets the black market continue because you can't beat them, might as well moderate them. etc. etc. He's Deus Ex Machina making an early strike. Basically, whatever happens, he's set up to become the solution, however convoluted it might be.

He's an idealist, that's all I've ever seen. He's always determined to stand up for something. But, then he decides to shoot the mobster and let the black market continue.

I will always remember him from the second Tomb Raider movie.

I'd like to see an RPG around the Firefly property. Not sure how well it could be done, however. Or a Farscape spinoff game. Maybe one taking place several decades after the series and featuring D'argo Crichton.

If they're moving towards a civil war I'm probably going to stop watching this show. It seems so obvious, that it better be wrong.

They need a "Top 25 Game Manuals of All Time." I remember reading my Earthworm Jim 2 book and laughing at the jokes. My God of War II book, on the other hand, is a list of controls and credits.

God of War III I might get tired of the gameplay with a third installment, however I'm dying to know where the story goes.

See, everything you're mentioning for Doom is relative to the period it was released in. When I see a list "of all time" I'm thinking it should all be relative to now, otherwise you're talking "best of their own time" or "most influential of all time." It's also that same reasoning that should put Counter-Strike up there, actually. Since it's still the most played FPS on the internet and not only did it crash servers with its distribution, people got arrested for hosting it on ISP webspace.

People seem to get very confused between "Top __ __ Games of All Time" and "Top __ __ Games of Their Own Time." Doom was cool once upon a time, but it no longer should be considered one of the top games of all time any more than Pong.
