  1. Promotional material focusing on style rather than substance is nothing new. When you see trailers for summer blockbuster movies do you wonder why they focus more on action than character development? Do you think everyone who watches movie trailers also has a subscription to Empire? An RPG generally requires more from the player than a simple action action, a greater investment of time and energy. It's really not a crazy assumption to think that RPG fans might like to dig a little deeper for info on their favourite genre. There is nothing wrong with taking a "wait and see" attitude, but when you only do that with anything that sounds good, while assuming anything that sounds bad is the absolute truth and representative of the game as a whole, then it's obvious you've already made your choice.
  2. Whatever gets your knickers in a knot. Sounds like a boring weapon to me that I probably won't bother using. I have more of an issue with Fallout 2 featuring both imaginary generic weapons and specific real life weapons. One or the other please. I also don't try to claim it's anything more than a personal gripe. So it's either "everything in this game is serious" or "everything in this game is silly"? Basically you've decided that Fallout 3 is a silly game that shouldn't be taken seriously because it includes a launcher uses junk as ammunition. As long as that's in the game nothing else matters, and you want Howard to "admit" this so you can be proven right and give yourself a pat on the back. Because funnily enough stuff you might fun silly or humorous isn't the focus of the game, just like the previous Fallouts! Since when does mentioning something equal focusing on it? Please provide a link to the interview he gave in which beards was the focus. Now you definitely shouldn't read that interview I linked because at some point Pete mentions humour. He also talks quite a bit about achievements. You heard it here folks, Fallout 3 is going to be all about achievements and everything in the game is going to revolve around collecting them. Todd Howard should just come out and admit it.
  3. How often do videos for RPGs show off actual "RPG elements"? I remember when the reaction to the Vampire Bloodlines video on the Interplay forums was "oh, it's an FPS". I think it's more a case of use the video to sell the game to shooty blam blam fans, and the expectation that RPG fans, rightly or wrongly might be willing to dig a little deeper for info, like, say, read the interview I linked to earlier. Sure, you can still dismiss it all as lies or whatever, but the info is there.
  4. It's just another weapon. It's not a "crappy design issue", it's just something you don't like. See: Pop's post. Fixed. Actually I do think Howard is pretty bad at showing off games, but then you're pretty bad when it comes to what to focus on, so it all evens out. See: beards. Read that interview I linked to. No, on second thought, don't bother, becauseanything that sounds remotely positive probably isn't true anyway. Obviously.
  5. No one claimed that No, but they are focusing on it to a ridiculous degree. Any preview that is at all positive is accused of being nothing more than a copy of the press release, and any silly thing is focused on as being a major part of the game. People decided they didn't like the game a long time ago, and now they're simply looking for evidence to justify their position. As far as silly nonsense in the Fallout games is concerned, this ranks pretty low. Of course I've no doubt when you make mention of the "Fallout universe" you're not including the stuff you don't like. As for a gravity gun clone, that doesn't even make any sense. It doesn't allow you to move objects around, it's a rocket launcher that uses junk as ammunition.
  6. That doesn't even make any sense. The people constantly complaining about Fallout 3 being "Oblivion with Guns" have forgotten about Oblivion? You contradict yourself by the very fact that you are talking about it. There is a launcher weapon in the game that apparently allows you to use the junk you find as ammunition. In one of the demonstration videos even Todd mentions that launching teddy bears is pretty ridiculous. Do you really think this is an important part of Fallout 3, and an example of what the game is all about, or are you just looking for stuff to complain about?

  8. I had a 4 light red ring once. The av cable wasn't plugged in properly. Nervewracking stuff.
  9. When it comes to 2D graphics, I prefer hand drawn stuff to the prerendered 3D of the IE games.
  10. I don't know about strengths but the appeal was the same as the rest of the ES games, as well as games like Gothic or Boiling Point - I'm a sucker for open world RPG exploration type stuff. Actually even Todd Howard said that shooting teddy bears was pretty ridiculous. WINNER. Is there a fine line between constructive criticism and whining like a baby, or is it a grand canyon? Anyway, I didn't think mkreku was complaining about people being only negative, rather that it's the usual suspects posting the same thing over and over. Posts like Jaesuns seem only to be about proving that Fallout 3 is horrible. It's the whole anti-fan thing. They're as bad as the "omg this is the greatest game ever" crowd. Respect isn't given to those who aren't respectful to begin with. Those whose initial reaction to the news of Bethesda buying the franchise was, and remains "beth sucks fallout is doomed" ain't worthy of respect.
  11. SO I assume you played Oblivion. And Loved it. A Fallout 3 MOD... would be "Fun"? *SMOOTCH* I enjoyed Oblivion well enough. Just the other day I finished Fallout 2 for the first time, and I enjoyed it well enough too. Neither game makes a huge impression on me. I'm looking forward to Bethesdas take on Fallout, and I have no doubt I'll enjoy it well enough too.
  12. I hope the game is delayed to 2020. Guaranteed to be awesome that way.
  13. I'll sum you up best. Yeah, I dunno what that means either. But you have to admit it sound like fun.
  14. I'm confused, are we supposed to bitch about games that didn't live up to our hopes, or games we were never even interested in anyway? Why exactly would one need to "avoid" games anyway? Do games come around to your place wanting to be played and then you turn off all the lights and pretend no one is home?
  15. People get way too hung up on the number/subtitle thing. It's still the same game no matter what it's called. If Bethesda suddenly decided to change the title, what exactly would people get out of that? Pat themselves on the back and go back dreaming of a "real" Fallout 3? Did RE fans freak out because Resident Evil Code Veronica was a truer sequel gameplay wise than Resident Evil 4? Probably, but RE4 had to go and be all awesome and ****, the crafty devil.
  16. I didn't think the "side with UNATCO" thing ever got past the ideas stage.
  17. There has been a rumor around for ages that the Mercenaries guys (Pandemic?) are working on a Batman game.
  18. "You were almost a Jill Sandwich!
  19. Huh? None of the collection quests gave achievements. There were a crapload of "use item/weapon x times" achievements though.
  20. If you like fighting games Rival Schools is crazy Japanese awesomeness.
  21. I disliked that too, but I still enjoyed the game overall. Prefer CT. I wouldn't say the old gen version expands on the story, as it's actually very different in places, which makes me wonder which verison they will follow for the sequel. Regarding Erica, in current gen whereas in old gen Also, old gen SC:DA has the exact same gameplay of CT, but it's also more linear levels than CT. I didn't mind the daylight missions. I also liked the missions sneaking around the terrorist compound, which apparently loads of people hated.
  22. You won't know until you try.
  23. Being a hardcore fan doesn't mean only liking a particular type of gameplay and rules system. One might consider themselves a hardcore fan due to loving the stories and characters that Obsidian makes. The idea that Obsidian should "be honest" and admit they aren't really making an RPG because it doesn't fit into ones own definition is the attitude of a spoiled child who can't handle not getting things their way. Anyway, I mostly agree with what random n00bman has posted. Stats and skills only say what your character can do and how well they can do it, why they do it, the characters motivations and personality is what the player wants it to be.
