  1. Nah there's a difference in someone who wanted to write the romance not writing it particularly well and the bitterness that seeps through a romance someone didn't want to write. I'm not saying nothing at all
  2. pfft I'd romance Dorn first. Awww which ones? BG1 or 2 ? or are you gonna do a whole run of both ? Either way , say hi to Jaheira for meh.... Gonna get back to that game once they let me use Mods ! Both of course! Oh god Jaheira. I actually don't drag her along with me I did once of course on my good guy half/elf. As you can imagine you know how that went in BG2. (which is why I get so annoyed seeing her in BG2. Lady I don't know you, I don't want to know you go away you complete and utter creeper.) Wait you can't now? I've been using mods just fine. (Mostly using one that expands Dorn's romance. I wish there was one that gave Rassad a less crap ending.) Hopefully in Deadfire the dlc will have some small romance banters (and friendship/dislike ones). Basically I just want moar content with the companions XD
  3. oh yeah stuff like that is cool. And ME2 was overly generous with the time limits and told you when you were approaching one. It was pretty clear the Reaper IFF mission was going to lead to something that was timed so I could plan around it.
  4. Yeah Rassad in BGEE made me waaaay more happy than it should've. Even with him being a liability in BG1 I take him along. (His ending made me sad though) He's a prat imo. Also his bragging if you're playing a fem character is just. ugh. And unlike later LIs you can't even laugh at him without him throwing a fit. So he's a blowhard without a sense of humor. Kiss of death for an LI for me.
  5. Sorta unrelated, but David Gaider once said, that he originally wanted Anomen to be gay romance, but they decided against it in the end, because they thought the audience wasn't ready. I actually have mixed feelings about this, since I think he's boring, whiny and obnoxious as hell and his romance is no better, but then would that be 4 romances for male characters and 0 for female? I actually agree with both point of views to some extent. I love romances as much as the next person (provided, they are well-written), but I also don't want the writers to feel forced to write them if they don't want to - if anything, it tends to reflect on the quality of said romance. To be honest they could have Anomen. I hate him that much. Maybe that would've forced them to give femPCs an option that wasn't garbage. That said screw everything about BG2 having 3 very different options for a male PC and then one obxious half-wit for the fem PC and it's not like no other male character hits on her elf boy would've been a fitting romance (and the mod that makes him one is <3) Something that amused me is among my friends more of the gay men liked his romance than the straight women did. Eh it's all pretty fanservice. I found all of BG2 romances fanservicey as hell in different ways. (Viconia was pretty much taming the shrew, Jaheria was just...NOPE and Aerie *barfs*) But at least they got choice where femcharacters were just stuck with Amodouche.
  6. Also don't get me wrong I don't think Eder should've been romancable if the writer didn't want to make him so. I just wish the reasoning was a bit more character friendly I would say? Instead of feeling so metagamey. If he saw the PC as a means to go right where he went wrong with his brother, or if he really didn't want to ruin their friendship. I think he should've said that instead of the vague handwavey explanation he gives.
  7. Heh, I'm one of those people that always argues against including romances unless the writers/narrative team I actually want to themselves. Like, enthusiastically want to write some sappy romance arcs for that character, not just begrudgingly write something because their character is of the age and attractiveness level to maybe be of interest to the general demographic the player character is likely to fall into. My argument against including them has always been that they limit the sorts of companion characters that the writers can write. Game development is ultimately zero-sum, there's a limit to time and money and other resources that are needed to make games, which largely determine how many companion characters will be available. So once it's decided that 'romances' will be a thing, it kind of limits what sorts of characters those can be. In PoE1, a lot of my favorite characters were the unattractive/unavailable ones; I loved how Durance was an unapologetic **** (it's so common for those kinds of characters to be written for the player to 'fix' or prove wrong), Sagani was a hilarious snarky dwarf mom (who is very pretty but would never entertain the idea of cheating on her hubby), and Devil of Caroc had her hilarious lovable moments while being one of the most heartbreakingly tragic followers I've seen in a long time. But there's not really room for a lot of characters like that when the dev team has to worry about making a bunch of the companions attractive and available. I don't think that's a horribly negative or controversial view of the argument? Although in pre-release forum hype, that still got me labelled as someone who must be 'a bitter sad loser who hates love and doesn't want anyone to be happy'. Le shrug. I guess the short version would be to let the creative team do what they want and think is best for the characters and the narrative, which is why I'll defend any writers decision to not force a romance onto a character if they don't think it would fit the character. While I do love romances I do agree with not having a writer who doesn't want to write them write it. It really shows and I rather have no romance at all than a bitterly written one. That said I disagree with the type of companions. I wish games didn't cling so hard to the must be young and unattached to be romancable bit. And yeah it's weird that got you labeled that and pretty stupid =/
  8. Much of the game is a power fantasy however is my point. Also Obsidian above this sort of thing? Uh both MOTB and FNV has your character far more influential than they should be. Also where are you getting people bowing to your will in deadfire? Like the only person who does is Eothas with the ending. They're all using you (much like in NV). Like you help a faction win yes but that certainly doesn't mean they'll do what you want them to do. As for waifu/husbando yep you get one of 4 options yes. Most games with optional romances in them tend to give you more than one option. There aren't actually. Like if you want to list rpgs with customizable female protagonists that allow you to romance a male that's not a visual novel? There's really really not a lot. BioWare are one of the few devs that do it to be honest. Also adult tastes? I've seen far more complaining from those who don't want romances in a game about romances than I have people who want romances in games that don't.
  9. A game you can suffer setbacks in, perhaps even lose? A game where the story and gameplay feed each other instead of hamper each other? Oh the horror. Because that's totally my issue with that losing. Not feeling railroaded because I have to rush to do X because of limited resources (which does work in games that revolve around limited resources. MOTB wasn't such a game. Not to mention resting was pretty necessary for my mage making it even more rage inducing) having to rush maps in an rpg wasn't fun. And story/gameplay can be a nice thing and I often appreciate it when its done well, it can also be off-putting,cumbersome and make playing the game itself a chore.
  10. Did you equip that troll? It kills whoever gets knocked out. I'm guessing its for a challenge game but why place it so late? eh.
  11. I once played a game called ADOM where you slowly got corrupted and started to disintegrate if you didn't progress fast enough. I never finished it xD Lol yeah time based missions tend to get me to skip all content even if I have an excess of time. And I usually get too frustrated to enjoy myself. I don't mind small timed missions but the whole thing being timed? No thank you.
  12. Nah I almost didn't finish MOTB because of that spirit eater crap. Last thing I'd want in any other game is that. Or at least have that toggable even if it makes no sense.
  13. She only leave if she is in the party when you are going to do it from what I've read. Huh that's odd. Surely she'd learned what the PC did via the other companions? Would think it'd be a forced ship conversation and she'd leave then. That said if it works it works XD It works. But she won't talk to me again. When I clicked her for dialogue she just stared at me. It seems that she figured out what I did and entered a cold war with me now. Fitting XD
  14. I rather empower be removed honestly. Leave my spells alone. Actually no keep empower but only have it restore resources. The power level buff is unnecessary.
  15. I'm on a 1070 ti and while I sometimes get a stutter it's not really all that often (and almost always after I've been playing for a while and a restart fixes it).
  16. See if he had said his relationships don't last long and he doesn't want to ruin his friendship with the player I'd got it. But he instead dances around it with how he's too messed up and his head is not in the right place instead of admitting he has a habit of screwing up more intimate relationships.
  17. Why bother going through text - all romances are already datamined on YouTube: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/97310-companions-and-romance/?p=2022540 Because as someone who plays BW romances dana sometimes misses things or context is incorrect.
  18. They're bisexual. Or at least Tekehu, Maia, Xoti and Serafen are all bisexual - don't know if Aloth ever expresses any interest in anyone other than the Watcher, so he could be playersexual. But everyone else is is explicitly attracted to both men and women and can mention this during the course of the game regardless of whether or not the Watcher romances them. I mean, I don't think making playersexual character is a sign of moral decline anyway, but that's not really what they did. To be fair this is the same guy he goes off and kills himself if you tell him to buzz off in the first game. Not that strange he'd get overly attached.
  19. Buggier than Skyrim? People do remember it was impossible to finish Skyrim's main quest on release right? Due to an audio bug where an NPC needed to say a line and open the door but wouldn't so you couldn't finish that quest? Yeah no deadfire wasn't that buggy.
  20. I liked KOTFE but I'm a Theron fangirl also the lastes FP *fans self* that romance scene was just too perfect for me. Whyyyy did you mention! There is a real danger now at derailing the thread (PS I did like KOTFE too to be fair, it felt like KOTOR3 if you discounted everything that happened before that) Not 100% certain but looks like there are. At least tiny bits here and there like ambient dialogue. Other companions def notice your relationship. XD It was too perfect though that spy boyfriend line I just. And yeah it's mostly small comments here and there. It's a nice touch.
  21. Ooh I loved Hoth in SWTOR! Soooo many pretty screenshots :D Gods I miss that game... had such a blast until KOTFE *sigh* I liked KOTFE but I'm a Theron fangirl also the lastes FP *fans self* that romance scene was just too perfect for me.
  22. and next you know they are going to ask you relationship advice: Xoti about Maia and Maia about Xoti. I did get some cute banter with fishboy and Aloth <3
