Patch 1.1.0 Updates Thread
Slotharingia replied to David Benefield's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
I have to agree. I'd also add that it looks like it's very easy to gain his disapproval now. I'd had him in my party approximately ten minutes and had one conversation with him when his approval was already at -1 and he voiced his concerns about how I'm being way too traditional-minded. I'm assuming that's not supposed to happen. He's always been easy to lose approval with, if it's worse now Idk what to say as I thought it couldn't get worse lol. Unless you make a character that reacts in a very specifc way in convos, you'll be somewhere between -2 and +1. People were hoping the update would make it easier to gain his friendship. AFAIK, you get the traditional spiel as soon as you hit -1, irrespective of whether your Watcher actually is acting tradtional (which they usually aren't). There's one scene in Neketaka where you instantly lose 1 approval with him if you have a laugh with Tekehu. It's not an important convo, so him overreacting like that is pretty silly imo. -

Thanks! I tried it out (I was right there in my current game) and it triggered correctly, got the "Aloth is pleased" bit and a rep gain. Cool. WOOT! -

I haven't tested it yet - I'd have to find a conversation where one or t'other of those topic flags comes up and check his approval before and after, but I don't know of any such conversation off the top of my head. If you move the cups of the guy upstairs in The Hole, it triggers resourceful. That's the only one I can remember off the top of my head. Also that looks way batter than what the game has given us. -

Patch 1.1.0 Updates Thread

On Aloth, not only does he have way too few things on offer, pro duty imo conflicts with pro automomy and anti tradition. He could be progressive, worldly, possibly resourceful/skulduggery (he seems to like dressing up as Arkemyr, not to mention his own antics). Irresponsible and Dutiful could be scrapped and replaced with "Responsible". He doesn't need to judge people for being irresponsible since it's often a bit silly esp. as he doesn't react negatively to slavery/racism/abject poverty etc. He's an intelligent, well read, educated, well -travelled guy who's experienced a lot, so I feel there's more to him than the game is providing.- 171 replies

Aloth: Opinions
Slotharingia replied to Slotharingia's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Right, but if you have him and Pallegina in party, they tend to argue about animancy. His anti-LK self eventually says that he fears that animancy will just lead to kith trading one form of soul slavery for another. Somewhat inconsistent dude, that Aloth. I know he's meant to be anti animancy, I just meant he's not actually that strict about it according to the story, and that the dispositions they used wouldn't automatically make that stance equate anti progressive. They made Aloth come across as super uptight and inflexible, when his behaviour / history suggest he's not really like that. He can hang out with animancers and even miss them, I seem to recall him - in Pallegina's quest - suggesting the research should be available to all (I might be wrong). -

Pallegina doesn't have pro progressive, she has pro animancy. Basically the dispositions are a total mess. The same things have different names for different people and too many of them are / aren't mutually exclusive enough to really make sense. Also, Aloth likes the animancers he's with at the beginning and even seems to have a crush on one of them. -

Ugh. Why can't they give him more variety? Tekehu has like 5 times the amount of things he likes and only 2 dislikes xD How often does the autonomy thing even come up? Most of the time when I pick stuff that could be interpreted as that, he doesn't react. Anti tradition, pro atuonomy and pro duty also still seem to conflict to me, as the first two imply questioning authority while the last does the opposite? I think he should be given resourceful/skulduggery, pro progressive, pro autonomy, anti tradition, anti religion, anti pride if he's anti leaden key. His irresponsible triggers are mostly weird. -
How do you turn down combat speed? there's like this little clock/gears looking circular thing on the bottom center of your screen, there are a few small little buttons there. (sorry, i don't recall the keyboard commands off hand). --- edit here, hope this helps clock buttons.jpg Wow. Never noticed that. Thanks!

Effigy Doll
Slotharingia replied to Tagaziel's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I dunno, not really buying it haha. What about Eder or Xoti (or pretty much any companion if the Watcher is full on evil)?. Seems bizarre to ask an evil person who possibly supports Woedica or Rym(can't spell his name)rgand for a suggestion on what to do with your essence after you break the wheel to allegedly liberate kith and bring on the golden age. Is he also the God of "Tough love" or the God of Trials? xD -

Because Eothas is programmed to love all kith unconditionally. I see. Not sure if that's a good thing haha, but that raises the question, why care about the Watcher's opinion and not everyone's? -

Why would anyone sacrifice a companion to get a summon figurine unless they were playing an absolute ahole? Even if you can't stand a companion that is ridiculously extreme. Another thing about that, assuming you are playing an evil Watcher, why would Rothas care about your opinion? -
In Fassina's defence, she is pretty funny if you pay attention to her pre Arkemyr dialogue, read her diary and talk to SHOP IMP. She grew on me on my third playthrough. As for Tekehu, I'm suprised people hate him so much. He's a bit like Dorian from DA who doesn't get nearly as much hate, he has more redeeming features than negative ones and his conceited babble doesn't harm anyone, when the same cannot be said for the ever popular Eder, who I also like, but who can be super rude. Along with Aloth's current eyeroll incarnation, or Pallegina, Maia & Xoti's unquestioning adherence to third party orders, real or imagined, Serafen is the least objectionable character. xD

If don't like ship combat and want to do board fast try this. First ship you get upgrade guns to double cannon looks like pair of cannons welded together 4 of those hit like 8 cannons. Improve hull bit but try not lose combat speed. Improve sails best you can get, improve anchor and ships wheel. should be very fast and nimble little thing. Move fast to 200-300 metres turn to be side on hold position open up guns and jib in one turn hold fire then move fast to boarding. Should find with good cannon crew, your hits should keep enemy ship busy, won't take much fire from and with speed you can go should close distance fast board and win. That's probably best 2 ways deal with ships If want sink ship shoot cannonballs, if your aiming to annoy crew on enemy ship while closing to board use grape shot. Thanks! That definitely helps

Did you try expressing romantic interest in him as an Orlan? That was a pretty "WTF!" moment. What happens? -

My first POE1 char was also an orlan. I'm pretty sure he doesn't say stuff like that to the actual Watcher - if he does I was either very unobservant or didn't have him in the party enough - but still, some of those things are pretty harsh and in Aloth's case, he still does it in Deadfire, just less. -
I wish there was a laugh button here like on fb xD I just don't romance anyone in DAI anymore. In Deadfire I'll prolly always end up with Tek on later playthroughs, as Aloth is too much effort and I he's not into my fav pc's (unless it changes in a patch).

I have some other questions about ships now we are on it. Which is the best one? So far I found the galleon better than the junk as it takes less damage from closing in to the other ship and my junk ended up sunk a few times although it was way less broken than the enemy. I haven't found a way to board the enemy ships after the first turn. Is this possible? This might be a stupid question, but whey do enemy sailors constantly move around? I've found all you can do with "report" is replace wounded sailors. Can you actually fix the ship, and if so how? Also, why do people always say Shoot > jibe > hold > shoot is the strategy? Why not just stay put with hold until the cannons reload instead of turning? Have to admit I'm really not a mega fan of the ship fighting but I do try to do it anyway. Especially at the beginning of the game when you are fighitng enemies way more powerful, you might as well just quit and reload. There's also a bug where you are sunk but your ship stays afloat with 0 health and starts fixing itself. Happened to me twice lol.

LMAO tell me about it. I gave up flirting with Bull every single time I tried because the game just makes you feel like he's really not into the inky. To make matters worse (for me), I don't really like hitting on characters that hook up with others and are happy, so that ruined Dorian too once I figured it out (and Dorian is the only one in that game that's relatively easy to get with lol).
