No, it's not bad, it's just not perfect. Overall, it's one of my favourite games ever and I vastly prefer it to 1. However, that doesn't mean one cannot see flaws in it and bring them up, maybe in the hope they get fixed or won't happen again next time round. Anyway, one of said flaws happens to be the urgency of main plot versus the Watcher hanging in the Deadfire for a prolongued period doing everything but what they went there for, and imo the vagueness of what Eothas' actions will result in.

Here are some of the imo strange approval/ disapprovals I've come across in Deadfire: Aloth gives negative approval when clicking on the Director of the Vailian trading company. Aloth will give negative approval for something Xoti says if you recruit her in Neketaka, before you recruited her. Multiple approval gains from various characters (Serafen/Eder/Xoti) for stuff the "staff" in the inn in Queen's Berth say. Positive approval from Tekehu for chanting NEMNOK. Negative approval from Aloth for helping some people in the gullet with a road block after freeing the dragon (see sig). I also got a situation in a scripted interaction where I picked Pallegina to pass a check and the game just made Xoti do it although she wasn't in my party, and Aloth and Pallegina reacted to it (positive & negative). There are a lot more examples of this, but I wasn't aware they were considered bugs officially until somoene alerted me to it, hence I lack evidence in most cases/have forgotten them.

I've noticed that in Deadfire, there are multiple instances where companions' approval or disapproval pops up as a result of random npc's saying something, or other - let's say weird - circumstances, as in my sig (where the alternative was to leave the people in question to their troubles). It's most obvious with Aloth as his reactions have a tendency to be negative, but others do it as well. For instance, talking to the people on the upper floor of the Inn in Queen's Berth, or paying for their services triggers a number of positive reactions from companions. Aloth's buddy will get positives from a number of characters, and the actress from Aedyr will even trigger a positive comment from Aloth, but no approval, while Xoti and Serafen will give the worldy tag, which does actually increase your approval with them (I went to + 1 with Xoti and Sera). Tekehu gave me a positive pious reaction for chanting NEMNOK (?!) Is this intentional? If it is, is it good? It also makes me wonder if the reactions we get to companions saying something are sometimes reactions to the player, and not one another, or both. If that were the case, getting positive/negative approval would be easier/more difficult depending simply upon who's in your party.

I thought Kraken is in the underwater dungeon, and it apears only if you try to dismatle the machines in incorrect order. Not sure. I just know I turned of the side machines before turning of the main one and he did not apear, facility was turnd off and sunk, no one could ever use it again, end of story. Is there an order to dismantle the machines in? ö I got it for not doing as told by a certain someone.

The Watcher doesn't assassinate people cos they are told to though. They kill people who legit get in the way/attack them/are seriously dodgy and you can play in such a way as to avoid a lot of death. I admit the point is moot if you are playing a Watcher that slaughters everything in their path when alternative methods were available. Who was evil in POE1?

A lot of people have made very good suggestions as to how the main story could have easily been slightly altered to make sense. Examples being: give a plausible reason for not knowing where Eothas is/Eothas taking ages to get from a to b. Maybe he vacates the statue for x reason, for instance. Or just have him already have broken the wheel when the Watcher gets there and it's all about trying to find access to Ukaizo to find out what he did. The Watcher could even have gone there because he had a vision, asked Aloth & Eder for help, got ship wrecked, got involved in local stuff trying to sort his act out and then Eothas turns up. Ultimately there being very extreme urgency at the same time as the player hanging out in the Deadfire for 1-2 years does kind of mean that the main story has a bit of an issue. Eothas even . PS I wish posts like this were in the spoiler section.

Does anyone know what gives you negative rep in Port Maje? My current character didn't do anything there that imo deserves negative rep, but still got -1 (as well as +4). I don't think it matters in any way, I'm just curious. He: Sorted out Rico's problem by telling Mokeha he would be destitute, so she gave the money back. Got the street thugs to agree to a truce using dilpomacy Threw the guys out of the upstairs room in the inn using diplomacy Gave the govenor the animancer's notes Picked the lock of Rum-Dumb's cell. I'm pretty sure picking the lock doesn't do it since my other 2 characters also did it, and I also checked the rep after doing it and had no negative pointer. My last char had +3 (no -), and all I recall him doing differently is not giving the research "solving" the Rico problem by pickpocketing Mokeha and then lying to him using bluff to get the people out of the inn (probably)

Yeah, I'm coming from the opposite to you as I do not believe in God, but that being said, a fantasy world is obviously completely different. I'm not a fan of extreme views unless they make some kind of sense, like anti oppression/pro equality. I didn't actually get much of the anti religious behaviour from Pallegina, but her anti godlike and pro VTC is bad nuff, especially if your PC is godlike. Just sticking to some principle or other because of nationalism/being religious/not being religious/being a godlike and hating it ruins characters somewhat for me. I'd also like to be able to influence them, or see the other characters influence one another and for that to then be reflected in their interaction/approval. That being said, I didn't dislike anyone besides Maia, as her questioning her orders but still carrying them out is even worse in my head. Aloth's compulsive approval of those traits as well as his disapproval of less obnoxious things doesn't help and I've started making him pro Leaden Key just to be able to handle his 'tude, although I never did that in POE1.

The last convo and the one that starts the romance are only ones I got, since I was trying to trigger his romance legit and all that was left to do was Ukaizo. Trying again with my new character but don't have high hopes. Glad I'm not the only one to harvest disapproval from Aloth without even doing anything. He did that to my last character multiple times xD

People seem to take Tekehu too seriously. I'd find his self love obnoxious if it wasn't expressed with humour and/or if he was actually arrogant towards other people/if it wasn't obvious he feels insecure/overwhlemed by what's expected of him. OTOH I find people annoying who others don't, so maybe he's just not their cup of tea. Maia, for instance I legit cannot get behind, so much so I didn't recruit her at all my last pt.

There should be seperate polls for sidekicks and companions. I like Tek best of the companions, but Rekke overall, however, that could well just be due to him not saying much since I'm generally not fond of religious characters (ik Tek is religious, but it's not his defining feature). Similarly it's hard to dislike sidekicks, as they have nothing to say. all in all: Xoti: okay but annoying, not keen on overly religious characters (I loved Durance though) Aloth: my all time no. 1 after Zahua, but he's too judgemental/passive aggressive/uptight in deadfire and impossible to get approval from even with benevolent characters Tek: love him. Don't take his self love seriously as it comes across to me as more of a facade. My fav new companion by miles. Sera: Like him, not passionate Maia: can't stand her Pallegina: like her but her nationalism / anti godlike are meh to me Sidekicks: no opinion besides Rekke

Yeah, it did feel strange that for a very long time we had, like, three romance-related conversations where he spinned stories about his previous mates, and nothing beyond that, yet the game somehow implied that we were a couple. But I think it has more to do with how unbalanced the timeline of the game is in general than with Tekehu's arc specifically. It looks even more ridiculous in relation to the main quest where Eothas tells you he'd be heading to Ashen Maw and you should follow if you want to talk, and yet you can ignore him for over a year merrily sailing across the Deadfire while he is... doing... something I guess? I feel bad for the fire giants who had to accommodate him for all that time I spent exploring the islands and completing side quests. Indeed. The only way you can make it make sense is if you delay the main quest until you've done everything else, and convince yourself you don't know where Eothas went. I wish they'd have made him run out of soul energy and his minions replenish him or something that would actually explain him hanging around there for ages doing nothing. After Hasango there's the urgency of Eder's quest as well. That still won't fix our beloved fish babbling about his previous sexual exploits instead of getting on with it though xD
