  1. This kind of sums it up. Shimmer: (says nothing) Aloth sighs through his nose. He's not judging Director Castol is he? What would be the point xD -edited cos uploaded the wrong file
  2. I think only the main guy was a bleak walker, the others were only his hirelings. I considered that but checked on the Wiki and some of the others do appear to be Bleak Walkers. Maybe they just thought the boss was an idiot.
  3. I'm not convinced he is broken since a lot of people seem to think he's not. But obviously, if they change it, I'll revise my opinion. Oddly, my first Watcher who romanced Tekehu managed to get more approval from Aloth than my current one that's actually trying to get it. I've reloaded every time he disapproved and tried to pick dialogue options he wouldn't object to while still cracking jokes when he shuts up about it. This one didn't even pick Tek up until it seemed unreasonable to wait any longer. Additionally, Aloth's personal quest bugged out and didn't trigger any convos until the very last stage where you go to the island with the Chieftain with the relevant memories, so I didn't even get any approval from that. *sigh*
  4. I love POE1 Aloth and also that he's romanceable. Sadly my Watchers leave him totally cold. Easy enough to get disapproval with him tbh, I personally just don't want it , cos even if I can't get him to like me and it annoys the hell out of me, I don't want him to hate me either xD
  5. My current char pledged to Hylea and then did what Wael said - the only detriment was getting my boat ruined with bird sht.
  6. How do the companions react to a character that uses intimidation ?
  7. Aloth would have made more sense if the character was new, not the Watcher. Eder makes more sense with the old Watcher as he's already on the boat. Maybe they could ahve done something like give a magey type Eder on the boat and a fighter type Aloth, not that there's any point in speculating on could have's xD
  8. Wow your Eder must be badass. I don't think any of my characters have managed to kill one another while dominated yet.
  9. So would you say, pick the "threaten" option in dialogues hoping to avoid a fight? How do you avoid being benevolent while still helping people? Accept the task but complete it by using threats and violence and never let peopel go/forgive them? Would you try to avoid deaths in say Arkemyr's Manor, or would you walz in and kill everything because you were asked to solve this and now all must die? What is a good race to pick? I've actually never played a pure good or pure evil character, I tend to go for shades of grey who either use shady methods to resolve things or have an agenda that causes them to do certain things that could be considered evil (like "everythng goes to fight the blight" Wardens in Dragon Age), I just don't feel I know enough about Bleak Walkers to pull it off. I'm pretty sure I tricked some into ditching their boss in the White March, which seems odd xD
  10. Aloth's versions would just be "sighs through his nose" and "rolls his eyes". On another unrelated note, Aloth's personality in Deadfire is flawed, and if you like it, that's fine, but it doesn't mean people who don't, "don't understand him". His dispositions make no sense. He's supposed to be pro kith autonomy, but admires zealots and people who do dubious things simply because they are told to, at the same time he apparently has no opinion on slavery and complains about Tekehu being irresponsible, but doesn't like it when he is responsible, because then he's too traditional, which is bad while being religious or nationalistic is not, unless it's Tekehu doing it. So at the end of the day, he's either broken or supposed to be obnoxious/hypocritical, which arguably considering his Iselmyr aspect, might be the case. I could go on but I can't be bothered, it's not like it hasn't already been said.
  11. I'd also like to play a Bleak Walker. I already made one and left Port Maje, but I might ditch him because I don't think I really get what they are supposed to be like. They have cruel and aggressive locked as maxed out traits at the beginning but the Wiki states they are not sadistic and essentially scary mercenaries that you hire if you want a job to get done violently, so I'm not sure how to play one. Would they tell people who ask for help to bugger off? Would they have a sense of humour? What exactly is their "duty"? Would they kill everything in their path? Or would they help anyone who asks as long as they get paid and then pick the most violent route to complete it? What happens if your Bleak Walker doesn't act like they are supposed to? Like what if you play one that's nice/questions their order? I pestered myself so much with these thoughts, I concluded it might just be easier to pick a Barbarian as my "bad guy" xD
  12. Ditching Aloth? maybe. Ditching Eder? Heaven forbid! You can't ditch the Watcher's best buddy! After all, you'll always know that he has your bat. Ummm, I meant "back". Yeah I like Eder, but not as much as Aloth, and it seems people who were really into Eder in POE1 feel he's lacking in 2. So if they can't be bothered to flesh them out or turn them into obnoxious gits, it kind of defeats the whole point of bringing them back, so I'd rather have new characters than ruined or lackluster old ones. Eder is nothing like as bad as Aloth, but he does also act mostly like he doesn't know the Watcher and you have to work to get his approval. Ofc it's much easier, so you don't end up feeling like he prefers some random zealots you only just met as long as you crack jokes. In my next save file I'm going to do Aloth's negative approval romance and encourage him to stick to his mission. As soon as he leaves Rekke and I are going on a cruise to Yezuha. That's gonna be the only way I can romance Aloth. Both of my Deadfire Watchers (which were imported from POE1) have failed miserably in getting his friendship. The first one managed to get it to 1 in spite of constantly harvesting his sneers, the second one who has actually been trying to please him is still at 0 with about 1/3 of the game left. Neither of them are the types of people where one could say it makes sense Aloth doesn't like them, as they are pretty much like him (benevolent but sneaky) except they have a sense of humour and aren't uptight, judgemental gits with double standards xD. And since I don't want to be foreced to play some weird duty obsessed zealot or a compulsively honest person (which seems to be the only ones he likes), my only options are to cheat or make an a$$hole. I did experiment with a Bleak Walker and Aloth gave me the "ur 2 traditional, bud" talk about 10 min after recruiting him. Needless to say, my guy did nothing that could be considered "traditional", so he told him to shut up and bam -1 xD Rekke is great and a pretty big missed opportunity if he stays as is. I had him in my party a lot of my first pt, though this time I'm forcing myself to cart Pallegina around instead. Apart from being hilarious, he also literally never died and took next to no damage. I think a lot of the issues with Deadfire are related to recylcing the character from 1: The lackluster storyline, the characters from 1 being dull/annoying/not making sense. They should either have put more effort into making it work or just saved themselves the hassle and given us a new character with a clean slate. I also wish the characters were capable of self reflection/growth which they don't seem to be.
  13. In case it's not obvious, I absolutely adore Rekke. He's such a great character, and they made the effort to invent his gibberish language. He even says something that sounds like he's making a pass at the Watcher at one point. Ydwin also seems more interesting than several of the characters that are proper companions and both of their stories are loose ends. I'm sadly starting to think it would have been better to ditch Eder and Aloth and give us those 2 as proper companions instead.
  14. I like this theory. I certainly think (hope) they are planning to go somewhere with the lore surrounding him as inventing that language and having him talk quite a lot would have been a waste of time/effort otherwise.
  15. Oh that sword. Scuse my stupidity. I got it both of my playthroughs first try from ship - ship combat.
  16. You can do all of the quests, but obviously pick the outcomes that favour the faction you are going for.
  17. She's part of him if he kept her, and he should have accepted her as such by now. I also just read that if you kick him out after he admits to being a Leaden Key agent, which imo makes an even stronger case for the bond the Watcher and Aloth should have if you were nice about it, as it clearly meant a lot to him.
  18. Why would powder house matter to him? He is Huana faction, not RDC. I always helping Huana( reputation 5) and Watershaper, but seems like queen assassination is enough to cancel all my good deed. Well killing a queen is pretty rad xD You can get -3 with the principi just for telling some guy you meet you won't aid him in raiding some ship, even if you did everything to please them before.
  19. The thing with the animancer's notes or him lying when you meet him in Deadfire is indeed not a big deal, but nor is it when or if your Watcher does similar things to achieve certain goals, but it's more of a big deal than what someone says in banter for a laugh, especially considering he's doing it himself if he has Iselmyr. Being a Leaden Key agent in 1 really is a big deal and if your Watcher didn't kick up a fuss about it because they've grown to value him as a friend, they ought to have a pretty decent relationship going that's undeserving of being neutral or even negative based on petty stuff that doesn't matter.
  20. Well, DAO also had this stupid approval system too. I hate it with a passion, personally. I'd rather companions judge me not by the number of times I cracked a joke but by my meaningful actions in the world. And his sullen face sure does indicate his overly serious no-nonsense attitude, the portrait is spot on. Guy needs to stop being so hard on himself and loosen up a bit once in a while, jeez He should spend more time in a luminous bathhouse, I think Btw, what do you, guys, suggest to swap conflicting dispositions with? I think if he's anti-Leaden Key Stewardship should be replaced by pro-Progressive and if he's Pro-Leaden Key Autonomy should be replaced by pro-Skullduggery (shady). Also, he and Serafen has fewest number of dispositions, maybe one extra positive should be added. Yeah it does, but in DAO it's also pretty easy to predict what people will object to and Morrigan in particular is transparent. Plus if you can't be bothered to switch out your party to stop them moaning or arrange your choices around them, you can bribe them with gifts. OFC that makes them come across as superficial, but still xD I personally liked the DA2 system the most, where characters could remain loyal to you and love you *in spite of* disagreeing with you on some things, because your relationship with them is essentially deeper than agreeing on everything and they can accept their view might not be right or the only one; but it seems a lot of people, especially those who only play a game once, found the rivalry system confusing. As for Aloth, I personally think he should always be pro skullduggery since he makes use of it himself in both games, and you can rogue subclass him. Shouldn't he be wordly? Anti leaden key, I'd say anti tradition, anti religion, pro autonomy; and pro leaden key, pretty much the opposite. That's possibly where the problem lies because it's too complicated, tooo many variables, and combined with his POE1 history with the watcher being potentially good or bad, Iselmyr or no, it creates this hypocritical, shallow persona that hates or at best tolerates you in a lot of cases.
  21. What difficulty is that on? I'm finding him way more useful as half barbarian.
  22. Morrigan is nothing like as bad as he is xD I wonder if his portrait means they did design him to be like that? Cos as someone said above, he can't really look like more of a grumpy git xD I personally don't think the point of a relationship system is to design characters in order to appeal to specific people, especially when said people are hypocritical. That's extremely contrived imo. Sure I can make an honest, diplomatic character that hates tradition yet loves duty (?), and never tries to avoid conflict by bluffing, lying or stealing but I don't think that character would want to be in a relationship with Aloth of all people. However, the fact there are people who have no problems gaining his approval suggests that he's not actually broken, so I'm just going to write him off and stop bothering.
