RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - NOW IN 5$ LOOT BOXES
SonicMage117 replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
Whatever Bethesda is doing, hope it's a new IP, something non-open world/linear and please let it not be riddled with bugs. -
I'm here, did you need something? If you're that curious, you could ask a moderator/administrator do an ip check. But yeah, totally legit similarities in writing styles. Anyone who asks about negativity on the forums or makes themselves out to be a victim is me, just wanted to clear that up Edit: Oh crap... wrong backer account!! SHOOT OK, just in case you are not sonic mage: Nothing against your post. It just seemed to me that it was a forward pass (Can I say that in english?) for sonic. If you say you don't like the casting system and wish to discuss that, maybe you shouldn't ask others why they don't like it. Maybe you should start by telling us which changes you didn't like and why i shouldnt ask othes why they dont like topics? Ok great thanksBeing compared to me is a great honor so take it as a compliment However, if it a joke and/or of mockery, it was in poor taste. You are about the 30th account I've been compared to, yep... another notch on the belt! On a more serious note, welcome to the forums. Most new members don't make it past 20 posts so, hopefully you don't get turned off and stick around.

My go-to class for all games with classes available have always been the stealthy, cunning type. I guess it's because I have always been catagorized as mysterious by people in real life. Aside from that, sometimes it's smarter to be stealthy than to fight. It's better to use head than muscle. Using shadows to evade is always fun, finding traps ahead of time is even more rewarding - moreso if you can manage to predict where they will be set before npc's can think of where to deploy them. Having 2 thief type characters in your party can be more advantagous than people reckon and this is likely if you are maining a thied to begin with (since these types of games have at least 1 thief type character as an important companion anyway). But I wouldn't do more than 2 thieves in a party, personally.

Obsidian the new Bioware with modern sjw/liberal inserts? Say it aint so! Either way I really don't care as long as it's not half-arsed like Obsidian's (meaning the writers from Obsidian) past romance work which was *if we're being honest* kinda worse than Bioware's. I have faith that they'll do well but only time will tell. Anyone can say "It will be good because Obsidian has better writers than most of today's writers in the industry" but the proof will be in the pudding... so let's not get ahead of ourselves. What I take away from it is that they want to please every type of demographic instead of working against them. This will likely open up the game's playability for all types of people. However, to contradict that, it WILL anger some people so it's not really to appeal for all types of people, is it? What would be nice is to have an option to turn off same-sex attraction for those of us who are not so fond of it - but the defensive will argue "One can not simply turn off people from being attracted to the same sex in real life so why have that unrealism?" to which the thoughtful person replies "It's a game and as a game should respect people of all demographics equally". since one cannot simply avoid running into a same sex attracted npc if they are an integral part of the story. Simply, it's good to be mature and reasonable about what resources fo where and where attention to detail is most crucial. Very nice and interesting thread. I can see why it's so popular and why it has struck so many nerves - the title alone was enough to anger people as this is an Obsidian forum and romances were never one of Obsidian's strong suits.

Yeah, that may have been just a bit harsh lol

Bump bump bump bump... another one bites the dust Bump bump bump bump... another one bites the dust Good for Katrina, not good for Obsidian. She was loved by fans... Wherever she goes/does next I'm sure she will be happier and better off. Goodbye Katrina, you will be missed!

Is there a way to block someone on these forums?
SonicMage117 replied to Yosharian's topic in Obsidian General
Yes, but you will still be able to see their comments if someone quotes them and threads they make on the main page. Just a heads up! -
Psychonauts... the brain quest was basically a "anti-fetch" quest. Shot at rpg's in general, made me laugh. It's this type of writing that makes me love Tim Schaeffer's humorous games. I have to give credit to this because we don't see this in games as people are afraid to put tht kind of stuff into their games. Dragon's Dogma quests were really good, only a couple were fetch quests while all the others were really developed well. The clear out to regain your territory approach never gets boring, adding purpose to how we approach our games and rewards you for your efforts. It's not only the "Wow... I can't believe I just did that" feeling that every game gives us but also a "Wow... They actually made all that effort worthwhile" which both classic rpg's and newer ones fail so much to give us. Zenith, there is a quest that allows you to meet characters from different rpg's including Cloud, Squall, Anya, etc. It's just a pretty cool thing they did. The parody game just did something that nobody else seems to have ever done and that's pretty awesome. Dishonored 2, it can hardly be catagorized as an rpg but I found the quests to contain more freedom than most revered rpg's out there. With everything from riddles to finding alternate ways to complete a mission without killing the targets and watching how that affects the story is brilliant structure. What I look for is writing, uniqueness and reward enough to make it worthwhile.

Are you saying you want religion or don't want it? Pretty sure there was tons of religion in BG2, and there was a lot on Pillars? Actually I've changed my mind about that. In the forgotten realms religion is pretty important. There are temples everywhere and people are quite serious about the gods and what have you. In Pillars it's only a side note unless the plot decides it's important. Yes, I meant I want more There's not alot of games that do religion well, I thought Pillars 1 did an excellent job. I saw alot of gameplay from the beta but skipped story elements to avoid spoilers. Glad to know it's still a strong focal point of the lore.

I don't mind anime in general but I try to avoid those things too. Waifu hunters and such, it's kinda a weird niche thing on Steam. When the games are bad, they get positive reviews by kids with raging hormones. That type of player base... -

According to research, it's always been better for the industry when bigger game companies to go out of business. The (once) employees get to go and join or start a new indie company which only produces better games than the AAA company that got shut down. But this is how game companies like Obsidian, Tango Gameworks and others have formed in the first place - the gathering of the dead, but realistically Bethesda 'seems' to be doing okay financially. So there's no worry there. -
RELIGION. Religion as a critical point. It made the original so good and unique. Helped to set it apart from other rpg's. Made the game relatable. As long as religion is one of the major lore details, then my investment will be worth it.

The Shape Of Water was the biggest disappointment thus far. The Mountain Between Us was good, my wife loved it. I just thought the trailer was a bit misleading. Although the name makes sense half way throughout the movie, I was expecting more of a movie like The Edge. The Strangers 2 is actually good, despite the ratings being poor (seems like whenever horror movies are good they get poor ratings but then the bad ones get good ratimgs. Internet logic for ya!) The new Han Solo movie looks meh. Seems like peoplw don't really care about old Han Solo anymore so I'm wondering how it will do compared to the likes of Rogue One in sales.

Bethesda closing down would be one of the best things in the industry. I really only like The Evil Within from them these days, everything else is irrelevant. -
Dishonored 2... No kills/No detections/No suspicions/No powers Run. One mission took me four hours to complete, but I did it lol

Another horrible 80's inspired movie filled with puns, references and synth music: It will be good to poke fun at Looks like Kung Fury but military themed.

More of my thoughts (pompous babbling as some may indulge in claiming)... Some people will see Deadfire's promotional shot of the characters on the ship and buy the game because it has a ship and nothing more. This doesn't make their interest any less validated to purchase the game. In fact, Obsidian was clever to do it that way to get new fans. Not everyone will purchase the game for this reason but realistically more will than all of us would like to think. Espwcailly, given that ship theme has only become a more popular thing in gaming over recent years, this is not at all surprising. Admittedly, I backed Deadfire because I really enjoyed PoE1, granted, if I knew nothing about Deadfire or Crpg's, I'd be one of "those" people who buys it because it has some sort of naval combat. Even if that is not the game's main attraction, it would still be enough for me to be interested in trying it. As said before, if the ship/sailing is done right, some people will spend more time sailing in the game than on foot. I don't believe I need to stress how it will be a fairly large amount of people who will do this. If sailing was just a sliver of the game, I could see it being forced down to a minimum of mechanics and working but it's still a pretty major part of the game. I mean, we're going to be using ships to travel and explore, fight, heal, store, random encounters, some primary events, etc. So this is why it's easy to see that players would spend more time on ship than off it. Betting that one of the three expansions will be heavily focused on the naval activites wouldn't be too far off. My wishful thinking may pay off in the end. Haha!

As far as I can tell, the trolling seems to have nothing to do with the thread but is rather stems off a grudge-like attitude which formed from past threads I've written certain members got hurt feelings over, that and butting heads in different comment sections of threads. If we look at the comments so far, virtually every predictable forum knockdown has been used in order to make the thread seem invalid (obviously not working). Still, the efforts for achieving this task is most impressive. Reverse trolling is key to success - Always be the first to call the person you're trolling a troll, make sure you're not alone, ect. Forum logic 101 If they really wanted to troll me though, they'd just let the thread die... then I'll be REALLY angry. Okay, not really lol but it would seem a bit more strategically effective and logical. Anyway, I'm happy to hear Deadfire has mutineers. I wonder what extent this will be. Would the consequences be grave? I'm getting more excited to play it!!!
-
I think possible crew abuse/overworking leading to a mutiny is a great example of what an improved system would bring about and would be a great addition to Deadfire's experience as a whole. It would definitely add some more excitement and realism. Possible mental sicknesses due to fear and paranoia should be a thing since there are gigantic creatures at sea. Hopefully this gets put in Deadfire. Cannabalism due to lack of food, etc. These types of events may not be needed for a decent core naval experience which involves a crew but could drastically improve it to greatness when done right, instead of losing a point of say, 'resolve' which would make it boring. Also, the examples in Sunless Sea, such as (but not limited to) stuff like being able to have children on board would be great, not sure if it would benefit everyone's experience but some people would love it, no doubt. Interactivity with crew would be great as well, and though it would vastly improve the naval experience, I'm not too sure if Obsidian will focus on bringing that to the table. That said, at least events in Deadfire can cause things like a leak or maybe losing a crew to high fever, I just will be a bit sad if crew in only addressed as "your crew" at all times instead of allowing for individual interactivity. And at least there is some level of a morality system according to the newest update, it just won't be as in-depth or satisfying as the one we see in Sunless Sea.
-
That's the reason I made the thread specifically about ship/crew mechanics. These things are comparable as their design are close, but city exploration is far too different and non-comparable. I'm not sure you've played Sunless Sea but city exploration is done through text, unlike Deadfire which is where one watches their character's 3D model explore in animations. If it's graphics and animation you seek, in Deadfire you shall find. And indeed, now can you please point out which words I have misused? Enlighten me, I'd love to be corrected so that I lock that in for next time's sake.
