RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - BATTLE ROYALE
SonicMage117 replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
The disabled game better than the enabled, whether on comtroller or keyboard and mouse. Apparently there is proof so... Pretty cool Losers bracket, don't underestimate them. They usually come back and beat the winning bracket taking home the trophy ans cash prize. Hence, why loser bracket is important. -
Yeah, Hollow Knight is great. It's not as nearly as challenging in terms of combat and platforming second time around, although the map is just as intimidating lol My first playthrough was around when the game fist released so... as you can imagine, I was taken by surprise with all the changes and new content (thanks to the dlc's). It's a labor of love made by three people, an indie studio and while nearly everyone who's played it says that it's the best meteoidvania to date (even better than Castlevania Symphony Of The Night & Super Meteoroid) it's hard for me to say exactly what a metroidvania is even so. A platformer with some upgrading, market places, the ability to backtrack? Let's go with that :D Anywho, Metroidvania seem to be a dozen a dime and while I've played many of the newer marvels, none of them come close to that of which is Hollow Knight!

Why do people play divinity: original sin?
SonicMage117 replied to mrmonocle's topic in Computer and Console
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Divinity: Original Sin. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of classical computer role-playing games most of the jokes will go over a typical player's head. There's also both protagonists' nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into their characterisation- their dialogue options draw heavily from the rich history of fourth wall breaking jokes in CRPG history such as the concept of CHIM, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Divinity: Original Sin truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in the main antagonist of the story, which itself is a cryptic reference to the Neverending Story. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Larian's genius wit unfolds itself on their monitors. What fools.. how I pity them. And yes, by the way, i DO have a Divinity: Original Sin tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid I didn't get it. Was he being sarcastic or something? -
Why do people play divinity: original sin?
SonicMage117 replied to mrmonocle's topic in Computer and Console
I'm curious if anyone here is old enough to remember or know the history of Larian's past games which gives some clear insight to why their games are going the way they are now. Divine Divinity was essentially a Diablo- clone (Yes, it was). People who played it obviously got the same feels of the classic action rpg and called Larian out for it, even if it did some things better than Diablo and Diablo 2. Then we have Divinity 2: Dragon Knight saga is another underrated gem that people seemed to hate because it's difficulty. The combat was fair but people complained about it, the same people who play real-time and pause games (yep, that says it all). I don't think pc gamers realized that Divinity 2 Dragon Knight saga was originally intended as a turn-based game but publishers as well as Microsoft and Sony said Larian had to change it to draw a more diverse crowd. They were right but I understand Larian being crushed by this. .......................................................................... Fast forward some years, and we are back to tactivity, the biggest complaint that we hear about Divinity: Original Sin is that the story seems like it's written by kids, personally, I don't think that the story is any worse written than any other crpg out there but it's important to keep in mind the developer response for moral choice between 2 main characters in an over the top comical story and how agreements and disagreements affect how it plays out. ......................................................................... Now if we're looking at all the things we can do in Baldur's Gate II and Divinity: Original Sin and compare them, Baldur's Gate II will seem pale in comparison, regardless of what kind of player you are. There's some logic behind this, Divinity: Original Sin isn't meant to be the stereotypical Crpg, it doesn't follow the normal trend and stuff like: Making 2 cats fall in love instead of your character falling for an npc probably doesn't sit well with some. And I don't agree that the comedy is subtle, I mean, maybe you own the game and you have a tattoo but I would recommend watching interview/development diary videos to understand what they were aiming for with Divinity: Original Sin, also, I'd recommend playing Divinity II: Dragon Knoght saga so you may better understand the humor in which semi-dark overbeaing Larian is known for. I don't think it takes a high IQ to understand the humor, it's even easy for children to understand but it does take a certain type to appreciate it and it takes someone who knows and understands Larian as a developer to know the depth of the humor they attempt to convey. Even the mechanics are meant to funny, take a look at the stealth gameplay. It's essentially Metal Gear Solid-type of comical buy simple mechanic. As snake hides in a box, you can hide in a barrel and move freely within in the world. That's just an example. In the end, as an rpg fanatic, it was easy for me to see why both Divinity: Original Sin 1&2 are doing so well in sales. They're fun Crpg's and there's something in there for everyone. The combat is like a fine mixture of Final Fantasy and Baldurs Gate for the first game, the second game does something with combat that no other rpg has really done and that's applying physics and comtrasting elemental balances/inbalances as well as inpending variables and environmental matter within combat standards. To put it simply, it makes Divinity: Original Sin 2 the most strategically demanding Crpg out there, you have to be aware of your environment at all times. .......................................................................... Let's talk about the horrible dialouge. Yes, it's cringey at times but it's meant to be. Is it not? It's just one of those things that's either up your alley, or it isn't but in terms of voice acting, both Divinity: Original Sin 1&2 have far better voice acting than Pillars Of Erernity. And I wouldn't say the story is particularly bad, it's certainly unique and nothing like the typical fantasy adventure. This dialogue makes more sense when playing in co-op (If anyone doesn't agree or don't know what I'm talking about, I'd encourage them to play co-op with someone). The extension of the disagreement and reputation system gives you a mixture of that Fallout Nee Vegas feel but with an actul D&D tabletop setting gives you, it's really just another thing that the Original Sin series offer that no other Crpg can. Divinity: Original Sin's multiplayer experience is so polished, overwhelmingly so, this is what I originally wanted from Infinity Engine games back when I was a wee lad with dial-up connection on a 56k modem and it wasn't wrong to expect such a thing, developers just weren't able to do this type of quality multiplayer then. .......................................................................... Now Larian's biggest fault is their marketing and that they don't have quite the trusted reputation that Obsidian has. Still, Divinity: Original Sin 1&2 did better in crowdfunding, GoG/Steam sales and console sales. How? Perhaps they just got lucky... (twice?) Again, it's surely not everyone's cup of tea. Personally I liked it but I've always enjoyed Larian's work and I thought it was a perfect game to compliment Pillars Of Eternity, since Pillars Of Eternity is pretty much the opposite in nearly every respect as a Crpg. I'm curious to see what they do next though. Hoping it's a new IP which does even more crazy stuff. In terms of freedom, Divinity Original Sin series offers what other Crpg's cannot and that's probably due to the "We'll do things our way instead of staying safe" mentality. It's good to be diverse and versatile. -
Why do people play divinity: original sin?
SonicMage117 replied to mrmonocle's topic in Computer and Console
Essentially, Larian has always had the unrelenting attitude of "Hey Rpg fans, we're making computer role-playing games how we want. If you don't like that, f*** you!"... And it shows in their work. Most people can't seem to comprehend that they purposely made their story a joke, salted with humor, dry sometimes even breaking the fourth wall. And their response to romances in the first game was unnaturally perfect for reason. Great stuff, I give Larian major kudos for what they've done in the Original Sin series. The quality puns and jabs of other games makes the game even more relevant to play if you're an Rpg lover. -

Adults recognize a joke. A child gets offended at such things. You, unfortunately are the latter. I promised you I would return so here I am. -
It's not ireelavent in the least, voice pitch alteration often manifests through sicknesses or diseases which include specifically strep or illnesses due to smoke. It's not natural to not take this into consideration. And the answer is no, a smooth voice can occur from strep, it's very possible but since there are more extreme cases of raspy, why refer to just one's thought on raspiness? The easy thing would be to stereotype them to make a point on the thread and it's not until we actually reaearch these things that we realize that there are variables which we don't yet or realize but are meaningful and relevant nonetheless. And yesx I agree that raspy can be defined as beautiful. Singers with jazzy/blues or rock can be defined as having smooth soulful raspy voices but that just makes my original statement even more relevant all the more. To discredit these points would not benefit the argument but if we are to just argue against the OP's opinion just hecause we like the narrator, then it would be far too easy to do so.

More snide commentary after a legit apology? I'd expect nothing less from a forum member who's already embaressed, offended and feels they have to have the last word. Quite strange that you continue to try to make an argument after I have moved on but if you feel you must make your point and "win" then your alpha mindset would make sense. Now, to clarify yourself, what about my comments do you feel is trolling you? It's obvious that what you consider to "not be getting under you skin" is actually already getting under your skin, or else you wouldn't be constantly making such claims. And how do you think I'm "falling apart"? Out of the two of us, I'm the only one that is behaving rationally. For your sake, just stop embaressing yourself. If you think I'm not worth the trouble, you would actually back up your statements with actions of leaving the thread and ignoring me but I'm not sure how you can apply these labels to someone who genuinely apologizes for getting under your skin. I don't think I'm the one who needs to seek help. Seems like you may be dealing with somw kind of inner steuggle tht made to blow up on me. The the only thing I ever said was that you needed to do research and not to assume that everyone thinks the same way you do, but if you think that's trolling just because you can't find a legit or mature way to combat that statement then that's on you, not me. There's no need for bitterness and resentment. It's best you let it go.
-
Aa the saying goes, proof is in the pudding. If one feels the need to validate yourself by making a public post saying "You haven't gotten under my skin and you never will... NEVAHHH" but repetitively feel the need to replyans repeat themselves, logic suggests that it's only just the opposite. For would it not? But I for one, never thought that I never thought I was being ill-will towards but if I have wronged you in any way by the way in which I asked you to ask the OP on personal ideal for their vision of raspy, then I'm truly sorry. For that of which I apologize, so shall you account me for being as such for the will in the forums and perhaps we can come to the middle grounds of more friendly enviroment for others.

I'm not the one manipulating or backpedaling but if you say so I mean, this is 2018 after all and sometimes forums have members like you, who work in opposites so as said before, this is nothing new - though, would had much rather had a conversation with an adult who didn't let his pride get the best of him. The internet is a strange place - when reason is viewed as trolling. Too many examples of salty people classifying unarguable points as troll attempts. For the record, I wasn't trying to get under your skin. More assumptions and muscalculations. I was only pointing something out, you couldn't handle that and tried to make me pay the price for that. I'm not sure how many times I have to say it, I wasn't trying to offend you so no need to get offended.
-
No, it was an example of how voices are affected. Where did I say it was described specifically as raspy? Whatever was unintelligent about my response? Where did I assume anything? I'm not the one who is getting defensive here, I'm not sure what's so hard for you to understand that there are different "raspy"s out there, doesn't make me or the OP wrong, and I'm not the one generalizing. I'm not sure why or how that triggers you, it's really not that big of a deal. You made a small mistake by expecting others to have the same view as yours without delving deeper into research on the specific topic. It's best to count your losses and move on, really there's no shame. I really meant no harm to befall you, I was just simply asking you to do some research or at least ask the OP to describe the specific type of raspiness they're talking about but I can see, this isn't about reasonable conversation on your end, it's only the ole "I'm right, you're wrong even if you made valid points." with some of that classic reverse psychology thrown in. Nothing much or we haven't seen on a general forum...Hopefully you can grow from here.
-
Your assuming that your assumption on your stereotype for heavy-smokers/strep throat is the only thing non-intelligent here. That was my point to begin with, and yes, it's clear that you're not confused, just too ignorant to know the different ways that smoke can damage vocal cords and/or strep as well. Expecting everyone to have a "general" idea behind this in order to make one look "correct" is underwhelmingly immature. It's not so easy, with any knowledge on the subject you'll find that both strep and smoke damage have a wide effects on vocals, it could make you drop an octave or project a higher octave, it can make your voice rougher or smoother depending on the person and every person is different - therefore the effects are different on every one person. Google ans yourube is your friend, if you want to learn the truths on the subject. Now that I have spelled it out, hopefully you don't get more offended and defensive but see the horrific condition of your actions. Again, I say that it would be better to ask the OP to give an example, rather than assuming that you're right. That's what I'm on about, I don't think it can be any clearer.

Setting aside the fact that for a variety of reasons I would never say that to my barber (and she'd understandably be rather confused if I did), I have no idea what you're trying to express with that. However impractical it may be as a unit of measurement, an inch is still perfectly well-defined; there may be some margin when used colloquially, but it's not going suddenly double in size I should imagine. But maybe US barbers work on an entirely different logic. Equally, while 'raspiness' may be perceived differently by different people, when the OP describes the narrator's voice as raspy to the point of heavy smoker while I can't discern any hint of rasp to it, it doesn't seem unreasonable for me to express surprise about this. You've completely missed the point, this isn't about whether you woupd "really" tell your barber something like that or not, it was just an example so there's no need to feel defensive really. There are tons of caliburs and naunces for the sound of a heavy smoker. I don't believe that "once you've heard a heavy smoker, you've heard them all" or that you even have a generalization. It just doesn't work that way, we would have a much better argument if we asked the OP for an example than to assume that we have a similar knowledge.

Not really. You're not looking at the bigger picture, you're focusing on something small that you don't like just because you have an issue with it. You're really over exaggerating it as people on the net tend to do. Steam would be perfect for it, obviously these people aren't stupid and I know you're not smarter than them. They're going to do where bussiness is best fir them. Where in the world wouod you rather have them sell it on? Google play? Barnes and Nobles digital? You obviously have no idea of how things wrong for these formats, nor the marketing and how to drive sales for it.
