Well would you look at that! Deadfire didn't just win the best desktop/console game for Unity, it even won the Golden Cube award! I say this is definitely well-deserved considering the fact that Deadfire is a criminally underrated gem. It even managed to beat Cuphead which makes it even more impressive. Congrats to Obsidian for this amazing milestone. With Microsoft's funding I can only see good things coming out from the talented developer over the coming years. I think this is ABSOLUTELY the perfect time to develop a Pillars of Eternity ARPG. They're already releasing their own Science-fiction RPG (Outer Worlds) before Bethesda's own Starfield. They might pull the same stunt by releasing their own Pillars ARPG before Elder Scrolls 6 If this happens then it'll definitely bring in more competition between the two developers for creating the better game. I can only see good things coming out of this!

First-person shooter :(
Sanjid099 replied to Mirandel's topic in The Outer Worlds: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sadly we live in a world where First-Person shooters dominate the industry. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo, all of them sell like hotcakes. For some games, having first-person is a necessity. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 require first-person due to all the augmentations and gunplay effects. Also, RPG developers tend to create their games for the sake of immersion. First-person tends to give us the idea that we're actually in the game as opposed to third-person. As a result, I think Obsidian has a preference for first-person over any other camera views. However, Obsidian does tend to listen to their fans' requests, so there IS a high chance for a camera-changing option to appear in their future games due to the funding provided by Microsoft's endless wealth. -
I have lost all faith in Bethesda Game Studios. Their recent games are completely devoid of creativity and innovation. Ever since Morrowind, they have been dumbing down the RPG elements within their games. Plus they keep insisting on using a game engine that's from the Triassic period. They've also stated that Starfield is already in a playable state, which means they've already developed the game in that trash engine AND probably infused their dumbed-down RPG elements into the game. I don't think Bethesda can reform their creatively-devoid team in such a short time. Perhaps they'll make some changes during the Elder Scrolls 6 development but definitely not for Starfield. I'm happy however, since this'll finally give Obsidian the spotlight that they've deserved for a long time.

Obsidian doesn't own the Pillars of Eternity franchise
Sanjid099 replied to Messier-31's topic in Obsidian General
^That's great news! Bethesda's getting lazy lately due to the lack of competition. A new skyrim-like pillars game will bring in the competition and competition is always good for us consumers -
Mod Support?
Sanjid099 replied to TheRedMenace1's topic in The Outer Worlds: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Even if they state that they won't provide any mod support, the Unreal Engine 4 is very easy to mod in general. Modders will always find a way to implement easy modding tools in the near future -
Whelp, this is it y'all. The final nail to the coffin. I don't think Micro$oft will ever waste their budget by allowing Obsidian to create another niche, top-down crpg. However, there is some light on the other side of the tunnel since Obsidian's finally gonna have the financial support needed for another AAA rpg. I just hope Micro$oft doesn't screw them over again...

Seems like all my hopes for a Pillars of Eternity trilogy is gone... Divinity OS 2 really pisses me off. I don't know why that game hit home run with sales. Turn-based just feels too slow-paced. The game's atmosphere is all over the place (you have cartoony characters with blood and gore). The story is exponentially inferior to that of Deadfire. The running mechanism is slow and annoying. Divinity's itemization is horrendous. Level scaling is atrocious (act 1 & 2 were difficult beyond comprehension while act 3 was e.z p.z). The only reason it did well was because of "multiplayer"... It seems like the masses are truly an ignorant bunch Hell, Black Ops 4 and Fifa 19 are breaking sales records even though they have the exact same gameplay as their predecessors with no improvement in quality..

Will there be a Pillars of Eternity 3??? Deadfire was 50-60% more expensive than the first game but the sales aren't as strong despite the developers releasing free content. Plus Josh Sawyer has already stated he's taking a break from directing. Also with the success of Divinity (a game I don't really like) I feel that other developers will also follow route, including Obsidian. They might make a Pillars spin-off that's turn-based and has multiplayer components.

Having Ydwin's conversation bundles in Seeker, Slayer, Survivor doesn't make sense. It would be more appropriate if they had converted her into a full companion in Beast of Winter since that dlc is clearly dedicated to her, but why would Obsidian choose convert her into a full companion in a dlc after BoW?
-
This dlc seems like a perfect opportunity to convert Ydwin into a full companion. However, I highly doubt Obsidian will ever take this opportunity since they can't get their priorities straight on their companion builds. Hell most of the sidekicks (Rekke, Ydwin, and Konstanten) are more interesting than almost all of the core companions. I really wish the sidekicks had more spotlight. How did Obsidian manage to mess that up???

Update #49 - Patch 1.1
Sanjid099 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Announcements & News
You can already tell that Obsidian's been putting their heart and soul into this game. I really hope it's commercially successful so that we can see a PoE III sometime in the future -
Dear Obsidian Entertainment I'd like to report a bug that's been bugging (no pun intended) me for the past week. I realized that Ydwin's random events portrait looks out-of-scale compared to the other portraits. Is this a very common bug? Would you mind fixing this bug? Thank you for your time Sincerely A very loyal fan

If you guys hadn't noticed, steam has become quite bullsh*tty since the platform has become quite saturated. Only games with high marketing can thrive in that platform. So the fact that Deadfire's in the top sellers list in steam despite its poor marketing is quite an achievement. Also, many rpg fans (myself included) have switched over to gog due to their drm-free policy. Just like the Witcher 3, I have a feeling that Deadfire will receive more sales on gog than steam. It is quite evident since both Pillars 1 & 2 are on top of the list in the gog bestsellers. Plus, games like Pillars 2 are going to keep selling for years to come and eventually ship a million copies in steam alone. They tend to be timeless classics unlike most of the multiplayer bullcrap that keeps getting spewed out during this generation of games.

On top of my my previous comment, both Ydwin and Rekke are voiced by Critical Role casts, while the other two sidekicks (forgot their names) didn't have any special voice overs. Plus, they changed Ydwin's portrait twice, TWICE. Quite a lot of work for a sidekick don't you think?
