Just bought it!
Wormerine replied to Slack83er's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I found filler fights to be a problem in base game - I rarely felt that way about WM (perhaps two to many ghost fights in the Battery). For Real Time combat it felt very good to me. I think Chris A. best work is the bigger picture stuff, rather then individual written lines. He can take something campy, subvert it and bring something narratively interesting out of it. I found games in which he was a lead or designed overarching story to have a unity, cohesion and focus. His writing can be descriptive and wordy which clashes with pacing of a game. Say what you want about amount of reading required for Grieving Mother quest, but he story thematically foreshadowed the "reveal" beautifully, potentially making you question morality of what Thaos is doing, depending on whenever you decided that what GM did was right or wrong. This is what I liked about his work, and this is what makes Planescape so excellent. -

BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I mean sorry, but they got none of those right. First person is somewhat functional, though clunky, and Third Person View is an absolute joke. PS. Disliked Bethesda games before it was cool. -
Combat isn't very interesting, but then again, it never is in those kind of games. So far I am quite satisfied, having my expectations low due to it being first in IP and warning from devs that it is not a sprawling game, but overall setting and characters are better then I expected, even from Obsidian. The wishlist I would have for the sequel, would be to put a bit of this Fallout/Arcanum Tim Cain magic - use consistant system to allow us to solve quest in more ways and allow us to create characters which interact with the enviroment in a more individual way. I can't express my disappointment when I overheard a handoff of an item I was activelly looking for, but then I pickpocketed said person, she didn't have it on her.

Yeah, it is really good ain't it? Also nothing so far felt forced or artificial to me, which did happen in previos Obs titles from time to time. The only "but" I would say, is that there always seems to be the "ultimate" way of solving major conflicts but: 1) I might just not seen the results of what I consider to be the best case scenario 2) It also might be my personal bias. After all, as Disco Elysium pointed out to me I am boring, sorry, and don't like to commit to any political ideologies, and want for everyone to get along.

I don't think I have much nostalgia toward PS:T. It took me a while to get to it, and I found it brilliant. Replayed it couple years ago, and still found it really good. I don't put all isometric RPG into same category. Planescape, Fallout1&2, Baldur's Gate1&2, Icewind Dale are to me distinctive categories, and only the last two have a significant overlap due to using same combat system, but different focus. Combat in Planescape is bad, but I treat dialogue as gameplay too - it's mechanics are simple but it is trying to do something Bgs didn't attempt - your character built having an influence on the dialogue. In addition overal story and writing are more mature and poignant than what was offered in other titles. It's one of those inspired but flawed game - My personal biggest complain is the latter part of the game, where combat becomes more common, and high Charisma, Intelligent, Wise character being THE way to play. Disco Elysium is the game which gave me genuine Planescape vibes, and it take the ideas and mechanics to the new level. Unfortunately, I DE didn't stick the landing when it comes to the story (nor did it keep the depth of interaction throughout the title). I felt, Pillars series really elegantly combined all elements of Infinity Games - with overall pace and construction of BGs, pretty combat heavy areas of IDs, and a more ponderous story, with our character build having an affect on your dialogue options of Planescape. It even tries to make quests more open-ended, alla Fallouts. Good stuff. I want moar. I kinda feel like replaying PoE1 at some point. White March is just too good. -
https://www.pcgamer.com/diablo-4-offline-mode/ It does have old Diablo vibes. But: still always online, connected shared space. I am not Diablo player, but is that what Diablo fans want?

OP must be more sensitive then me. I only picked on the companion with explicit lesbian romance quest. I do find it to be a shame, that the one companion quest, which seemed to have so far the most resources dedicated to it is a silly be-a-good-wingman date affair. Sure, there could have been something more substantial then that. More swashbuckling, less Sex-and-the-Ci... Space? I hope it's a good joke. Don't know my sitcoms. -

Yeah. Outer Worlds gives you access to all companions equipment while in the ship. I don’t think Deadfire suffers too much (it’s easy enough to swap companions and equip them while one the ship) but it could have been more convenient. -

It does indeed look like stuff we have been asking for a while. I am confused as to what this game is exactly. This is what I found online: So what is the price point for? Coop campaign?

But balance seems to be way off... or at least require a very deep and specific skill replacement before being anywhere near viable. I will report back in two lvlups time, once I reach science of 100, but right now it costs too much to increase lvl by tinkering, and damage difference is staggering. They are simply not viable, in spite of me investing in them via tinkering, having base science of 80, Vicar for passive boost and all the perks avaiable. I can shrink creatures for 40 damage, or shoot them for 700-1000. Even weapons I am not specialised with do way more damage then any of my sience weapons. It's not about being not being optimal, it's about being viable. Pretending, like I am contributing to the fight isn't fun. I was just wondering if I was missing anything mechanic wise. It doesn't seem like I do.

My original plan was to build character around using science weapons - I always like those unique weapons. However, so far they seem extremely unvaible. You need to get to level 80 of science to cap tinkering with those weapons so you can actually upgrade them (didn't reach that point). I imagine 100 would be desirable to not spend a fortune on those weapons (depending on what the cap is). Even when I got my first weapon and it's level was around my other equipment but did 1/4 of their damage. At this point each of those weapons does less then 100 DPS, while other weapons do about 500-600. I am using all science weapons perks I could. I don't think adding VIcar to the party would do much. Anyone found a way to make them work?

You can. Most of games allow you to set toggle though so I couldn't be bothered to open my mouse and fix it. -
Outer Worlds, a mediocre Fallout

Ha! In Trump's voice: But taking piss aside: What does it matter? It's not a competiton. ToW is a good game, worth playing. Does it matter how it stacks up compared to other games? -
Item levels
Wormerine replied to Ommamar's topic in The Outer Worlds: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Reading tutorials would be enough :-). I really didn't have any issues with item durability. It feels like workbenches have been behind every corner so far. So yes, if your durability gets low it looses effectiveness. I am pretty sure there is alert for that, as it happened to me before. As explained before weapons with higher level does more damage. You can upgrade weapon level by tinkering but the price increases with every level up. So it is far better to switch weapons every once in a while then try to use the same one. -

Hold/toggle to aim downsites I assume. As my right mouse misfunctions I would appreciate it as well. That, or I need to finally open my mouse and tinker with the mechanism to fix it -

Faults Not Worth the Busy Work

FLAWS. I think some of them are. It's an interesting concept, but needs further exploration to be interesting. To be honest, I can't tell from top of my head which flaws I agreed to - they just don't impact gameplay in fleshed out or interesting enough way to help make the character unique. -
Superb RPG?
Wormerine replied to imitenotbecrazy's topic in The Outer Worlds: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Some skills are on comparable levels in few brackets, but some are quite apart. As skills in same categories are governed by different attributes, at least in my case some of them ended up quite apart forcing me to choose between upgrading one skill I really want, or boosting the less relevant ones. It’s possible that some categories aren’t as diversed as others - I didn’t analyse them in-depth. I like the perks which unlock every 20 points and overall enjoy how they did pickpocketing, and hacking/lockpicking. Economy is too forgiving though. A more controlled supply of lockpicks would be better, like in Deus Ex. Then again, lockpicking in Deus Ex is an alternative route, not “more loot” feature.
