  1. Aww, thanks! Glad to help, buddy! Aside from outright fixing the launch error, getting rid of the Citrix virtual display driver also solved other weirdness like the fact that the Versus Evil logo hasn't displayed normally since November, or the occasional white-screen hang-ups on startup/quit. Looking back on things, it more-or-less started when Citrix Receiver decided to upgrade itself into the newer Citrix Workspace.
  2. @SChin, for what it's worth, this suggestion did wonders. Uninstall Citrix, then reinstall the newest version via command line with the above instructions. It eliminates the Workspace Hub and virtual Casting drivers conflicting with Unity. Everything seems great with Deadfire 4.1 and Citrix 18.12.
  3. Holy smokes. Thanks for the tip, Chinner! I've always wondered why Deadfire was flaky on a new PC, but solid-as-a-rock on my 2013 warhorse of a laptop... Flippin' Citrix donking things up. Edit: The fix in the post below was super-effective!
  4. Sure, it's dodgy, but everyone starts somewhere along the path of data-mining. It's usually harmless enough to take a claim at face value pending further info. Though, in this case, the user seems to be going out of their way to avoid explaining how to reproduce their work. It's extremely hard to hide stuff in Deadfire. For example, concealing levels is damn near impossible when they leave separate footprints in tile sets, enumerations, audio cueing, and 3D modeling. Should be easy enough to just say: "type this in the console to see what I found"
  5. The video is just standing around in AR_0702_Temple_Magran, which appears mostly to be an indoor variant of Magran's Temple at The Sacred Stair. Edit: Also, they turned off the music in settings. That's why the temple is reduced to spooky-sounding ambient noise. There is currently no proof of any additional areas besides their word that the new place is totally awesome but for some reason the mods won't permit them to post screenshots or explain how to access them.
  6. Nooope. Get your cheats on and warp over to check out their "discovery". It's some random stuff that was present at least as far back at Deadfire version 1.2, and probably shipped at release. Nothing particularly new. AreaTransition AR_0702_Temple_Magran 1 1 AreaTransition AR_0710_Temple_Magran_Tomb 1 1 AreaTransition AR_0002_vfx_test 1 1 AreaTransition combat_test_poe2 1 1
  7. The only clue that there is/was a fourth DLC in this (or some alternate) universe is that the internal code recognizes LAX4 as a valid product configuration. The game will check if the appropriate directory is there, and will load LAX4 files should it find them. Beyond that, there is currently no evidence it is connected to anything, nor is there anything to back up claims that a secret DLC exists and is is populated with stuff. As I'm sure Fake Carl Sagan would say: "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary excuses why you can't specify where your information came from." FYI: The backer beta enumerated up to LAX9.
  8. The videos are probably some rough cuts for Backer Update #60 that got distributed to the press in advance. I'm sure we'll see the full thing on Thursday.
  9. Thanks again for your work on this new feature. I bet it was a unique blend of fun and absolute madness grafting it into the game.
  10. With the overall scale of the changes, I'm not sure how much good a public beta would do. To get any proper feedback, you need to do entire play-throughs to test the various encounters and mechanics. That's the sort of task in-house QA can do pretty efficiently. Turn-based isn't something that is toggled on or off. It is a permanent choice made at the beginning of the game. While players might be able to comment on UI or basic things, it seems unlikely that many beta testers will push through the game over the course of a weekend to see how turn-based affects the balance of late-game encounters. --- Edit: Later articles make it clear that *everyone* is getting this as a testable addition to the game. It isn't just going to a self-selected pool of beta participants.
  11. Congrats everyone! Your hard work is what made Deadfire awesome!
  12. For what it's worth, the Deadfire team was recently nominated by the Writers Guild of America for Outstanding Achievement in Video Game Writing, and many of those same people are working on The Outer Worlds. Everyone is still free to form their own opinions, but among professional writers, the narrative team at Obsidian seems well-regarded.
  13. Nailed it. I feel like this is the only appropriate response to this thread.
  14. This thread has been pretty cringe-worthy, imo.
  15. We thank you and salute you for your tireless efforts in service to the Obsidian community!
  16. 2019 feels likely if only due to the fact that they're already putting in ad buys for The Outer Worlds. I can't recall many games paying for advertisements with an ETA of a year or more. Given the state of the hands-on demos following the reveal, a summer target seems likely, but it's still far enough out that there's no reason for anyone to commit to a day/week/month/quarter.
  17. At the moment, I believe this is the only way to get early access. Kidding aside, if there is a beta, it's likely still a ways off. In the meantime, hang out with the rest of us in the forums as we make baseless speculations about the game's production timeline.
  18. May you all have the happiest [iNSERT FESTIVE OCCASION], and a positively glorious new year!
  19. Though, does it really count as "predicted" if your source was an errant set of patch notes?
  20. As long as nobody ever changes the forum edit function, this place is most assuredly safe. Legends have been passed down over the years that any modifications or updates to the forum code are to be taken as a sign of the end times.
  21. That blogger seems to have gotten a lot of play with his bar napkin sales math. The actual terms of Fig investments are a lengthy read, and it seems the only thing they got out of it was a few data points on a line graph. There is little evidence they read: In addition, our Board may decide not to pay a dividend, or to reduce its size, if our Board believes it would be necessary or prudent to retain earnings in order to avoid a material adverse effect on Fig’s financial condition or results of operations (in which case the unpaid dividend amount will accrue for future payment)... or Fig will pay a minimum of 85% of the Fig Game Shares – Pillars of Eternity II allotment to the holders of Fig Game Shares – Pillars of Eternity II, in the form of dividends, subject to our dividend policy. So, right off the bat, there are two key questions to ask: What rate were the dividends paying off at? and Have any dividends been withheld from this payment? I certainly do not doubt that Deadfire could have sold better, but there are a truckload of assumptions necessary to get to a figure in the neighborhood of 110k copies.
  22. Obsidian's seafaring sequel dazzled us with a great world and fantastic quest design this year. [Link]
  23. I just updated the above Imgur album with a later post. It’s a clearer indication that we should not expect a third person view or extended mod support until a sequel.
  24. Long story short, the Archer is working as intended. Ranged is a skill, not only a type of attack. If you don't have the ranged skill, you default to a d4, and may need to switch it back by tapping on the check type in the top middle of the screen. From an older thread (using Merisiel as an example):
